La música es un medio que tenemos para expresar nuestros sentimientos, unas veces son felices y otras son tristes, como hoy.

Rhythm & Breaks está de luto por el fallecimiento de uno de los grandes. Hablamos nada menos que de Rick West, un productor y deejay americano que forma parte del movimiento Florida Breaks.

Rick publicó una gran cantidad de referencias y recopilatorios con los cuales los componentes de nuestro grupo crecimos y disfrutamos a lo largo de tantos años.

Hoy vamos a devolverle ese favor que nos hizo grabando este set que hoy publicamos en su honor. Su autor es Thec4, el cual tenía preparada esta selección musical con temas pertenecientes al conocido sello del señor West, Painted Puppy Productions.

En esta ocasión, encontrareis la sesión sin ningún tipo de publicidad al tratarse de un homenaje.

Here's my infamous breakbeat remix of Dudearella's On Top Of The World (aka Sittin On Top Of The World)

The story behind this remix goes like this. I was DJing a request night at a nightclub called Images in downtown Lafayette around 1998. My good friend Alyson Calagna (aka Pop-Tart) was the Saturday Night DJ there and she turned me on to this record. I ended up bringing the record home one night and recorded it to my computer (probably Windows95 at the time!). I started chopping it up and placing it into FastTracker 2. By Sunday night, I had finished this mix and cruised around making sure it sounded right in my vehicle. I brought it to both of the 2 Dave Landry's (Dave Steel & Super Dave) They started playing it at The Plaza in Lafayette LA, and from there the song and remix caught on across the region. I even received phone calls from Bo Crane of Pandisc Records about re-releasing it on one of their labels. I forget why it never panned out. I also received a call one day from the man who wrote the song. He had found it online one day and basically asked me if I'd like to do an updated remix for release. He ended up getting me the acapella from MCA Records (who originally released it). Over the years, I've toyed with the notion of updating the remix, but I just never finished anything.
