Old Guitar

An orchestral based track, focusing on the feeling of uncertainty and cautiousness while exploring the wilds.

Featuring an uncommon time signature, I had a lot of fun playing around with alternate timings and instrumentation from various parts of the world, giving the piece a feeling of not quite belonging to any location we know.

Moon Phases is an album of eight original pieces of music, sonatas, tone poems and soundscapes, each one representing one of the moon’s phases.
Each piece is precisely 3 minutes and 41 seconds long. When combined, the entire works will be 29 minutes and 30 seconds, representing the 29 ½ days it takes the moon to circumnavigate the Earth.

The pieces were released individually as they are written and recorded, meaning those who followed the project's progression seen it evolve.
It now comes together in this complete works/album

With elements of electronic Classical, Jazz and Ambient, they are all stand-alone pieces but together they create an atmosphere of moonlit nights, soft music and other-worldly soundscapes, SoundEscapes if you like.

"There are pieces for individual instruments and I'd love to hear the album performed by live musicians in a beautiful venue with low lights, candles and a projection of the lunar phases changing as the music progresses".

October moon by the Dee McIlroy Band, was recorded back in the mid 90s. It was performed with one take in the studio by Dee McIlroy (acoustic guitar and vocals), Mark Lyttle (electric lead guitar), and Ernie McMillen (Bass). Taken from the album Colours. The original recordings were lost and it wasn't until 2010 when copies of the original recordings were discovered.

Knocklayd mountain overlooks the town of Ballycastle on the North coast of Antrim. It features a Neolithic passage tomb known as Carn an Truagh, situated at its highest point. The tomb is contained within a large cairn, which is covered by peat. It offers stunning panoramic views of the surrounding landscape and coastline.
AND, it was time someone wrote a song about it :)

Singer / Songwriter / Composer working in multiple genres including Folk, Americana,  Jazz, Blues, Classical and Electronic music. Also a guitar maker and studio producer. I've been a session musician and soloist in the N. Ireland music scene since the 1980s . 14 albums so far (July 2022) and still gigging on a regular basis.  You'll often find me playing at trad sessions in and around Belfast.
