Rhymesayers Blueprint dives into a remix from Mello Music Group's latest discovery, North Carolina producer and emcee CASTLE. Opium is from CASTLE's debut MMG album "GasFace" (7/23).

Coalmine Records is pleased for yet another rerelease of ‘Land of the Crooks,’ the collaborative extended play project from the late Sean Price and Melbourne’s go to producer, M-Phazes. 

The project finds the longtime underground legend lending his distinctive, Brownsville-bred grimy vocals over Phazes’ rich tracks full of dramatic pianos, rich bass-lines, swinging horns and hard drums.

The A-side includes the main passes, comprised of four original tracks with the addition of the Small Professor Remix for ”Murdah Type Thinkin (feat. Guilty Simpson).” For this special edition rerelease, Coalmine has also added the Divided Souls Ent. & DJ Pain 1 Remix of “Land of the Crooks,” which was only previously made available on the label’s remix compilation, ‘Remineded,’ which first dropped back in January of 2015.

The B-side includes the instrumental passes of all of the original tracks, as well as the Small Pro Remix, in addition to the “Crookapella,” which includes various scratch stems taken from the EP, in addition to various isolated drum sounds, sound effects, and acapella of the “Land of the Crooks” single.

Additional features on LOTC include Roc Marciano, Billy Danze (of M.O.P.), Maffew Ragazino, Loudmouf Choir and the Dilated Junky, DJ Babu.

Vinyl is manufactured on a blue and green swirled configuration, limited to just 500 Units, and comes complete with the Andres Guzman designed artwork, inspired by the vintage ‘80s movie, ‘Crocodile Dundee.’

Sean Price was Hip-Hop’s Gray Hulk, a barbarian with the pen, with the sharpest of wits. A true Brooklyn legend...riP!

Political Animals’ new video for “Who Want What” is what happens when you take the key elements of any work of art—the music video, in this case—and completely flip them on their head. That’s due to the handiwork of director Shane McLellan, who has previously worked work with Ceschi, I.N.F., as well as the PACT (Political Animals). Here, he captures the New Haven, Conn. four-piece’s genre-bending approach and applies it to film for something reminiscent of the Beastie Boys’ most influential videos.

You watch as frontman Sotorios delivers his potent bars while floating through a dark alley, levitating during meditation, and defying the laws of physics. And the same goes for his bandmates—bassist Jen, drummer Trenton, and live-sampler DJ Neb—who ignore gravity while performing their blend of grimy Hip-Hop and Funk.

Although an album title and release date has yet to be announced, be sure to follow PACT on social media for updates. In the interim, head over to their Bandcamp if you’d like to support their previous releases.

Who Want What

Known for rockin’ over instrumentals from the likes of Marco Polo and The Alchemist, Saga continues that trend of linking with top-notch producers on the Ayatollah-produced, “If We.”

The Queens beatsmith delivers a sample-heavy slapper that makes for the perfect backdrop for his Brooklyn brethren to flex his rapping chops. And as much as he could have easily kept this as a no-hook, straight-rhyming affair, Saga executes a replay friendly chorus laced with wisdom, particularly on lines like, “If we... started realizing being broke doesn’t mean you’re poor.” 

That same sentiment rings true with his verses. While his first two are certainly strong, Saga goes off on the third verse by showcasing exceptional alliteration and internal rhymes that’ll leave your head spinning. It's the type of track that’ll please any NY rap aficionado and impress anyone with even an inkling of an interest in Hip-Hop.

“If We” is now available for stream, and serves as a teaser of sorts for his three week European tour that begins towards the end of March, during which he’ll be opening for Asher Roth.

Brooklyn’s own Saga returns with another ill loosie, “What You Want,” that finds the gifted lyricist teaming with Los Angeles producer, Exile and kicking some serious knowledge.

While previous cut, “If We” was more of a straight-up banger and technical display, “What You Want” dives into the concept of finding joy in the trials of life rather than searching for some grand end result. This is actually referenced in the track’s artwork, which depicts a teary-eyed Wile E. Coyote (known, of course, for his never-ceasing attempts to catch the Road Runner). There’s a great breakdown of the lesson to be learned by Wile’s chase on Quora (view here: http://bit.ly/1MmlywO), but it can be summed up as “the value is in the voyage, not the destination.”

Saga himself drives the concept home in his second verse, wherein he poignantly tears into people who would rather complain and “blame it on the system” than actually do anything to make their lives better. In his words, “they’re just peasants pretendin’ they wearin’ a crown.”

“What You Want” is available for streaming and purchase through iTunes and all major digital retailers. As for Saga’s next move, his European fans can catch him on tour in late March and April opening for Asher Roth.
