After two decades of redefining electronic music with unconventional and psychedelic club sounds, German DJ and producer Acid Pauli needs no introduction. His third album MOD arrived in September 2020 as a remarkable tribute to the modular synthesizer, the most trusted tool in Acid Pauli aka Martin Gretschmann's arsenal. He created the record almost entirely with modular systems, reveling in the possibilities and stretching the limits of machines that sing to themselves. 

The first part of MOD Remixes saw innovative reinterpretations by Pilocka Krach, JakoJako and other notable names from the Berlin underground. Now on the second part, Acid Pauli's collaborators bring expertise from all over Europe and beyond, resulting in a magnificent international collection.

Well reputed DJ Tennis and Roderic approach "No Kick, No Cry" from completely different directions. The former accentuates the prominent kick drum and adds new layers to the track, making it a true earworm, while Roderic keeps it more low-key, carefully coating the already immersive and ASMR-like soundscape in nuanced texture. 

"Du Brecht, Ich Dub" undergoes a complete makeover by German producer, DJ and vocalist Perel. With two extra minutes and a bright newfound energy, her version plays like a soundtrack for an aerial footage of a neon-lit city. Needless to say, it is an irresistible dancefloor-filler. 

Slovakia-born and London-based artist Lenka Toma adds a warm touch to "Life Polarizer". United by the consuming groove, Acid Pauli's chirping and bubbling soundbites come alive with Toma's techno backdrop.

"Sublime Frequencies Of Cairo" becomes subject to quite a metamorphosis, too. What was already an album highlight is elevated further by Jonathan Kaspar, resident of Cologne's nightlife hotspot Gewölbe. His beat pulsates throughout the initially beatless track and masterfully connects the dots between Acid Pauli's floating loops, eventually finding its way to the foreground.

On its remixed version, MOD reemerges as an entirely new record, basking in all these diverse influences while firmly retaining the trailblazing lifeforce of its creator.

David Duriez is known for making House and proper underground electronic music since the beginning of the 90's - 30 years in the music industry, founder and keeper of the [briquerouge] label, home of the best french electronic renegades since 1999, David Duriez is lurking in the shadow of the french Electronic scene, keeping it real and true. Artist in various styles of music, dj and innovator, he's always in search of new ways to distribute and value Electronic Music and always a step ahead. Definitely not just one for the hype.

Since 1994, David released over a hundred records under his name, tens under various pseudonyms, outputs mainly vinyl on the most renowned labels like 2020Vision, Ovum, Systematic, Pokerflat, F Communication, Mobilee, Under the Counter, Stickman, Classic Music Company, Crosstown Rebels, The End, etc .. (the list is long, see Discogs.com to be convinced) and as many remixes for some of the greatest (think Moby, DJ Hell, Telex, Random Factor, Johnny Fiasco, Paul Johnson, Kenny Hawkes or Mr.C).

Founder of the label Brique Rouge in 1999 and a whole galaxy of other labels, he participated in the creation of internationally recognized labels such as Robsoul, Freak n'Chic or Rz Muzik. David has carved out his own niche with his pigeonhole defying Brique Rouge label, and his helping to redefine underground electronic music. Brique Rouge has released deep house, jacking house, tech-house, acid house, vocal anthems and much more... Definitely a label for open-minded people, not stuck in one genre of House.

Premiere: Mijo - THXTASY (Moisees Remix) [Duro]

After 7 strong and ranging releases by the likes of KiNK, Fort Romeau, Autarkic and De Sluwe Vos amongst others DGTL Records has set out a diverse and yet steady course. A mixture of these different sounds is all found on this Various Artists EP, with input coming from different parts of the planet. The 4-tracker consists of contributions by HAAi, Rebolledo and Paulor, Axel Boman and JP Enfant, of which three are also playing at the annual DGTL festival in Amsterdam this April. Needless to say, the EP will be available at the festival too. The Various Artist release on the Dutch label is the first in a series, so expect more to come.

HAAi is up first on the EP with her track ‘Drumting’. The Australian born, London based DJ and producer has enjoyed a rapid rise to prominence over the past few years, most recently winning the title of the BBC’s ‘Most Essential Mix of 2018’ for her contribution to the world- renowned mix series. ‘Drumting’ channels a similar energy to that found in her warm up sets, with a danceable yet steady rhythm underpinning her characteristic globally-influenced blend of electronic and acoustic elements.

The typical driving and sturdy sound of Mexico’s Rebolledo and Paulor is evident on the A2 side of the EP. Their ‘The Fog and the Forest’ is almost like an LCD Soundsystem song without the lyrics due to the sturdy bass line. When the captivating synths and overpowering guitar chords drag you further into the foggy forest there’s no turning back, but why would you!?

Axel Boman’s ‘Surfliner’ is one to listen to while overlooking the ocean after a warm day in the sun for sure. The emotional piano chords that are with you throughout almost the entire track, are there to hold-on to while ‘Surfliner’ takes you on a melodic and enticing trip that is best described as new-school Balearic.

Another trip comes from Amsterdam’s own techno wunderkind JP Enfant. ‘Sputnik’ is a smooth but stirring ride into space loaded with hallucinogenic acid lines. Exploding into ecstasy at the edge of the universe, while the ride back to planet Earth is just as exciting as the way up. JP Enfant’s techno track is the perfect closer of the very first VA release on DGTL.

Just like the previous two releases the artwork on this EP comes from the very skilled duo Boris Acket and Tim Straver.

It's that time of year again when we get excited for the release of @LAGASTA's annual Late Summer Compilation. One of our own favourite blogs they are now up to volume 9 of this excellent series. Packed with their favourite cuts from the last year along with a few extremely tasty exclusives it will be available on their bandcamp for Free this coming Monday.

Our premier today comes courtesy of Italian producer Fabrizio Mammarella who is also behind the Slow Motion &l Wrong Era labels. Unit is a 10 minute epic electronic odyssey. It's hard to put into words just how good this track is with beautifully crafted synths, classic drums, it ebbs and flows beautifully carrying the listener along with it. Just check it out. You wont be disappointed.
