┋  Matthias Kunze (Klangextase / Hamburg) presents Afterhour Sounds Podcast Nr.92┋

Unsere Nummer 92 kommt diese Woche von einem langjährigen Wegbegleiter und Unterstützer vieler Künstler von nah und fern. 
Die Rede ist von Matthias Kunze, der uns alle mit seinen zahlreichen Sets und Podcast schon häufiger die Stunden versüßt hat. Seit einer gefühlten Ewigkeit ist er auch Mitglied bei dem bekannten Kasseler Podcast/Blog Projekt „Klangextase“, das für uns mit zu den besten Podcast-Reihen zählt. Was 2008 als wöchentlicher Radiostream mit Freunden startete, entwickelte sich über die Jahre hinweg zu einer international bekannten und vor allem unabhängigen Musikplattform. 

Matthias’ Sound besticht durch eine besondere Mischung aus treibenden Beats, melodiösen Klängen, behutsam eingeflochtenen Vocals und vor allem jeder Menge Bass. Für Matthias ist Spaß das höchste Gut beim Auflegen: „Wenn du selbst glücklich bist mit deiner Musik und dem Drumherum, dann wird es auch dein Publikum sein!“ Nach erfolgreichen Gigs in Wien (Prater Sauna), Berlin (Ritter Butzke) und Kassel (Unten, Club ARM, etc.) spielt Matthias nun vor allem in seiner Wahlheimat Hamburg in Clubs (z.B. Kurhotel, Baalsaal) und auf Open Airs.

Für uns hat sich Matthias ganz schön ins Zeug gelegt und eine wundervolle Stunde erstellt, die so was von zu unserer Reihe passt. Deep, träumerisch und treibend. Vielen Dank Matthias.

Musik ein, Welt aus.

Lost yourself

Electronic music is hard to define genre. At most of my shows around the world I've been asked the same question of "how I would define my musical genre" again and again. 

But I'm not a fan of putting things in labelled boxes. Of course, people use these boxes to not get lost in the incredible diversity of musical styles. But these "genres" are very limiting for those who listen and for those who share it with others. Mostly, they are one sided, inaccurate and misleading. 

My musical universe is not only downtempo-ish, emotional house but also melodic ethnic techno - and so much more. For me, a DJ-set is open to innovation, experimentation and change which creates the magic in the end. 

So there you go with one hour of listening to the "Vastness of the Universe" which refers to the variety of my musical universe. Much love to all of you and see you somewhere somewhen around the globe soon! <3

2017 has seen UK artist Talal carve out a unique sonic space. Coming courtesy of King Street Sounds, ‘Control’ was a summer hit earning support from Maceo Plex, Adriatique and Solomun. The warm months also saw Talal headlining Cream Amnesia in Ibiza alongside Ferry Corsten and Paul Van Dyk, then subsequently showcasing his skills at La Torre alongside Rob Da Bank. Now embarking on his next musical endeavour Talal joins Frequenza Records. Run by Nihil Young the Italian imprint has been a home to Maceo Pex and Ramon Tapia. Making his much anticipated debut on the label Talal presents his artist showcase ‘Android Dream’. Stylistically diverse, the seven track journey draws inspiration from the 1980’s yet sits comfortably in the present. Warm, vintage design profiles and a character rich sound highlight the collection which is sure to be a delight for even the most discerning electronic music aficionados.

Premiere: Talal 'Dark To Light' - Frequenza

"Run The Length Of Your Wildness" is a weekly dance party held every Monday night at Underground SF in San Francisco, which initially launched on August 24th, 2015 in a small rave cave known as The Basement — formerly and infamously known as 222 Hyde — in San Francisco's Tenderloin neighborhood. Friends and 100% Silk labelmates Cherushii (Chelsea Faith) and Roche (Ben Winans) started the night as an opportunity to DJ more often, honing their skills in the process. But thanks to the intimate setting, The Basement's supportive owner and staff, and the wonderful crowd who attended on a regular basis, Run The Length Of Your Wildness became so much more than that : a community of music-obsessed weirdos, nerds, scene fixtures, first-time ravers, and eccentrics, leavened by the occasional random partygoer passing by, taking a chance, and finding themselves hooked on their new Monday night mainstay. They book primarily local DJs and live acts, and make an effort to book artists and DJs who have never performed out
before. Encouraging experimentation, Run The Length Of Your Wildness has become a place for electronic musicians and DJs to showcase their expressive freedom and GO WILD ! On December 2, 2016, Cherushii, Nackt (Johnny Igaz) and several other beautiful souls were lost in the Oakland Ghost Ship warehouse fire. The loss is beyond devastating. The San Francisco electronic music community has come together to do whatever they can to champion their legacy, and Run The Length Of Your Wildness is proud to be an enduring part of that legacy. "Hobo Camp" is proud to be able to partner with Run The Length Of Your Wildness to produce a release containing music from Cherushii and Nackt, to preserve their legacy and contributions.

Normally I produce songs, but this is the first time I did a podcast. Deep & Smooth supported my music as one of the first, so I am really happy they invited me. This Set is dark but has many facettes of culture and style. Maybe you notice the unreleased track of mine. Hope you Like it.
