Voyager 1 (English voyager ' traveller ') is a space probe of the US space agency NASA for the exploration of the outer planetary system and interstellar space within the Voyager programme. It was launched on 5 September 1977 from Space Launch Complex 41 at Cape Canaveral on a Titan IIIE Centaur rocket. Its identically constructed sister probe Voyager 2 had already been launched 16 days earlier on a different trajectory. Voyager 1 first flew to the planets Jupiter and Saturn and entered interstellar space on 25 August 2012 as the first man-made object.
