Ist n kleinen Moment her seit dem letzten Podcast.
Aber haben euch dafür was sehr feines mitgebracht. Irgendwo zwischen Köln und Berlin bewegend, stellen wir euch Zhta vor – wir haben uns direkt in den abgedrehten Sound von Zhta verliebt.
Besonders die immer wieder aufblitzenden Hip-Hop Momente, haben es uns schwer angetan und für einen Augenblick auf diverse Festivalbühnen katapultiert. 
Fürs Gedankenkreisen zum Feierabend, für das ewig-in-der-Hängematte faulenzen, für das Feierabendbier im Park oder zum ewig Wachbleiben auf dem Weg nach Hause. Wie lange legst du schon auf?
Das erste Mal gemixt habe ich 2022!

Wie war dein Weg bisher? 
Musik war schon immer ’n Ding, Playlists erstellen ist meine absolute love language, und wenn die Musik nicht läuft mache ich sie an. Irgendwann hat mich mal jemand gefragt: Warum mixt du eigentlich nicht? Und ja, valide Frage, was sollte ich sagen, warum eigentlich nicht?? Also habe ich mir einen Controller geliehen, Videos auf Youtube geschaut, euren Workshop besucht, und geübt. Es folgten viele Wohnzimmer- und Gartenparties, zu denen ich dann statt Spotify nun diesen Controller mitgeschleppt habe, hahaha - und meinen ersten richtigen Gig hatte ich dann im März 2024 im Klunkerkranich. Könnt ihr euch nicht ausdenken, wie aufgeregt ich war, uiui.

Was ist dir an einem Safespace wichtig?
Die Freiheit und der Frieden, zu sein wie du bist. Begegnung auf Augenhöhe.

Hilma and Manni Bäng from Hamburg are the spiciest newcomers the planet has ever seen. With their mix “It's a Bäng Thing”, they celebrate their debut on the Slow Punch label.

Hot out of the fryer, they deliver plenty of ear-slapping sound that penetrates deep into the system. With their deep, dope crunch sound, they make every champagne canon bubble until the fontanel flutters.

This overwhelmingly cute Ecstatic Dance DJ-Set was recorded at Ecstatic Cuties’ Ecstatic Dance in the miraculous Japangarten in the botanical garden in Marburg on September 13th ’24. 

Two peaks, a longer lyrical part and a quite short intro part because it’s been a really cold evening outside and bodies wanted to move 💃​

I’m reeally in love with this set as it represents so many facets of how I want my art to be like: genre-fluid, queer, soulful, touching, wild, enigmatic, surprising, funny, empowering, deep down and up high and all between and around.

Also at this point I want to share some of my thoughts regarding the Ecstatic Dance community:

I am afraid that Ecstatic Dance just becomes (or already is) another marketable brand combining shady hippie practices with political apathy and a certain style you have to wear when DJing or dancing to the music. 

For me Ecstatic Dance IS NOT (just) spiritual South-American and Indian music (or at least the European gaze of that) underlaid with 4-to-the-floor-kickdrums in a Downtempo style.

Why do we have to pick this music to feel spiritual? There’s so much beauti- and soulful music out there out of which we as Ecstatic-Dance-DJs can create our dance journeys.

Why’s everyone wearing earth toned clothes (and I’m not even talking about dreadlocks) to represent their spirituality? Is spirituality really that lame and single-sided? 

In my world every human being has the right to be and feel spiritual (because we all are) and look individually different at the same time and does not have to be part of that earth tone cult. 

The same for the music: music itself for me is a spiritual thing so there’s such a huge pool out of which we as DJs can choose to create our journeys. Let us cultural respectfully choose with which music we want to touch the hearts of the dancing community and maybe shed a new light on the music we were growing up with. Because I’d submit that in our western european society in most cases it’s not been flutes from the Andes we were listening to in the radio. Let us try to understand our own cultural heritage better in order to treat the rest of the world with more respect and (self-)awareness.

Let us try to really explore new patterns of movement.

This goes out to all the white ecstatic dance DJs.
