Detroit and techno are inseparable. And it doesn't get much more Detroit techno than @terrencedixon. A master of minimalist sound design and globally recognised stamp of authenticity, he is one of the Motor City's most prolific artists. His brand of "forward-thinking ghetto electronics" has come on cornerstone labels like Metroplex, Tresor and Rush Hour and is never less than thrilling. His recent Reporting From Detroit album was the latest testament to that, and this week's podcast continues on that theme. 

It is made up of all original material recorded on the West Side of the city but starts in an ambient world of distant stars. After those scene-setting sounds come the signature Dixon drums: deep, pulsing, rubbery. They come and go as you voyage through tortured synth tension, suspensory alien life forms and mysterious electronics. It all makes for a storytelling mix that takes you through a portal and into a whole other dimension.

Regardless of Psj’s sparse presence in the online world, you’ll come across a lot of his influence in the real one. As an offspring of the momentous house scene in Brno, he left the city with his MUAH legacy, moved his activities to Prague and quickly became a go-to selector. His selection isn’t easy to define or predict, but it mostly depends on the time of the day and the speed at which he wants you to dance. It can be disco-tinged euphoria, ambient and downtempo gems or slowly bubbling acid, but all delivered so effortlessly that it’s hard not to get infected. Apart from his DJ endeavours he runs Luft, the coffee spot and music haven he always dreamt of. @psjx

About 2 years ago, we contacted Arno to ask if he was interested in contributing to our series. He agreed, but on 1 condition. He wanted to record DSS 069, due to obvious reasons. The universe wanted number 69 on Valentines Day, so we didn't hesitate a second and planned ahead.

Today, Arno presents his interpretation on deep space music. Mostly focussed on the loners, but also compatible for first, second & third base boners

RON L is part of Embodiment, an organization that focusses on different spectrums of electronic music and is originally based in Rotterdam, The Netherlands. For the past few get-togethers they set foot in Amsterdam to further explore the Dutch scene and to inspire the participants with a challenging sound.

With this recording RON L wanted to translate the past and the present into a set. DJ-ing for over 5 years he came in contact with several styles within electronic music and RON L thought this was a great moment to dig deeper into his music collection to create a trip down memory lane to build an emotional bond with the audience while also remaining in the present using some recent releases.

DSS 082 is carefully assembled by Brussels based Onohno, resident at Kiosk Radio.

Mental and hypnotic. This is what best defines Onohno's music, who always tries to build bridges between different genres of electronic music. For some years now, he has been developing an interest in hybrid styles and techno, oscillating between erratic rhythms and organic sounds to achieve the most total musical immersion possible.

Hailing from Brooklyn's vibrant electronic music scene, Moon Patrol stands out as a compelling collaboration between Irina Kotik and Gilles Wasserman. As the visionary co-founders of the Brooklyn-based webzine Delayed, the duo brings a wealth of influences to their joint venture, Moon Patrol.
Their musical narrative unfolds through a delicate interplay of soft melodies and evolving ambiances, crafting a distinctive sonic identity that guides listeners through evocative journeys within their DJ sets and original productions.

Having released on labels such as Oslated, Huinali Records, On Board Music, Lost In Translation, and Accents Records, there is no doubt about their notable impact.

We have the honour to welcome the French Aerae for DSS 085.
She brings us a deep and pulsating mix of half-step, drum & bass and a touch of tribal influences.

In February, she released her debut LP 'Percussive Rêverie' on Annulled Music, which gained international support by artists like Claudio PRC, Cio D’or, Evigt Mörker, Eric Cloutier, Laura BCR, Refracted, and many more.

We enter June with DSS 086. Brought to you by the talented Italian, Atoloi.

As a devotee of nature, Atoloi explores sound creating a mellow amalgam of layers using echoing synths, processed field recordings, and self-created samples; all mixed in a lysergic experience of heavy-grained noises and evocative instrumental compositions.

Not sticking only to club-oriented sonorities, instead, his productions and mixes search for other depths, in which the listener can get lost in a dense "no boundaries" journey between the worlds of dance and meditation.

Six years ago, Russian-born Marina Rubinstein was a raver living in Tel Aviv with dreams of becoming a DJ. After saving up enough money, she bought a one-way ticket to Berlin, where she quickly worked her way up from playing small rooms to 20 people to playing the world's biggest techno club, Berghain.

Dr. Rubinstein's story is a familiar one, but her love of '90s acid techno and life-affirming rave tunes helped the fledgling DJ to stand out in a city then dominated by darker, more hypnotic sounds. Today, she's a globally respected selector with a joyous, life-affirming style.

This week's FACT mix is a snapshot of Dr. Rubinstein's dreamier side, packed with hazy breakbeat, electro and acid; it rarely climbs above 115BPM, with tracks from Lake Haze, Holger Flinsch and Legowelt amongst the tracks that will have spotters taking notes. It's one for the 7am crew.

Dr. Rubinstein is that rare thing, a DJ who's just a DJ. It almost seems churlish to put it that way, but she's made her name and career enchanting crowds with just her infectious selections of acid techno and cosmic electro. Just watch her on the decks, how she feels the music she shares with the crowd, you can sense how her love of the club was born on the dance floor itself, and as an avid raver herself you can see why she's so in demand across the globe. She's in the middle of a year that's already seen her play on both hemispheres, from Melbourne and Hanoi to San Francisco and Los Angeles, from Helsinki to Barcelona and Ibiza, not to mention regular appearances at Berghain's Klubnacht and other celebrated clubs around the globe. Her Truancy Volume reflects on how quickly time passes, covering a range of fast-paced electro that's laced with emotion. We also caught up with her to discuss the demands of her touring lifestyle, how she prepares for different kinds of set and her love of David Lunch.
