Phenomena caps off an incredible year with a new EP from label boss Solid Stone. The Canadian artist has continued to develop a distinctive sound across 2019. In combining fresh rhythmic concepts with tight grooves and astral aesthetics, the Montreal resident has continued to receive support from Adriatique and Tale Of Us. Now landing back on his Phenomena imprint to complete a stellar year, Solid Stone presents the two track offering ‘Lotus’. 

Continuing to diversify his portfolio, Solid Stone explores a deeper, more hypnotic sensibility on the title cut ‘Lotus’. Tight beats, electric rhythms and dramatic tones begin the six minute journey. Senses heighten as layers of percussion and atmospheric drifts unite across a devilish first act. As the main break begins to take shape an indistinct vocal furthers the narrative, with rising modulation creating a sinister tonal tension, opening up with each successive loop, before reaching a tasteful apex and stripped re-entry. 

The companion piece ‘Sworn Seven’ follows a similar minimalistic ethos, making it the perfect complement to its predecessor. Sitting at the heart of the piece is a tranquil arp and ghostly vocal fragment, perfectly set up by a punchy groove, clattering percussion and hazy atmospherics. Ominous and intriguing, it’s arcane nature is inviting, becoming fully realized during the main break, as tasteful modulation melts down to a gentle purr and effortlessly segues into a meditative finale. 

In a year filled with memorable productions, Solid Stone may have saved his most astute work for its final offering, with both ‘Lotus’ and ‘Sworn Seven’ elevating the Canadian’s unique sonic philosophy once again.

The originals of the twelfth EP of the label are provided by a really talented artists from the UK, called His. Creator. The three detailed and well balanced originals, of which 'Nightshift' is the title track, are accompanied by a remix of the Hungarian Justrice.

The first track, 'Nocturnal Eye', already starts of with a lot of tension and stets the tone. The track has a compelling build-up towards the middle part of the track. Afterwards it slowly comes down without getting boring once, all guided by what we could name a signature piano synth.

The title track, 'Nightshift', will make you fly for sure. The lead will bring you to some higher atmospheres, again guided by this piano synth. The track has an outstanding and surprising arrangement, which is mainly noticeable in the break, from which the lead rises again.

REM, is probably the most powerful track of the EP with the heaviest lower end of the four. On the lower end a cutting synth is floating, which makes the full composition suitable for the dancefloor.

At Justrice's interpretation of REM, he managed to bring in a lot of groove with his signature and remarkable percussion. The extended break gives the track some more tension, nevertheless it still stays very suitable for the dancefloor, maybe even more. The remix brings us to the end of a strong and well composed EP.

PakPak Records welcome AfterU for a new two track EP that takes you on a heady and spiritual journey. This pair is made up of Elmar Ivatarov & Vitali Pevzner and they bring a fine mix of melodic techno and deep house to their sounds on the likes of Sprout and many more.

Opener Kalibri is an exquisitely ethnic eight minute trip with warm, groovy drums and plenty of exquisite synths that light up the airwaves up top. It is hypnotic and heady and truly escapist, and features Ilan Oz (Ozart) on the piano, and Vitali on the violin for a classic touch. Umza Pumza is a darker tune with frazzled chords and tense percussion that keeps you on the edge of your seat and makes for a thrilling ride, super dramatic with psychedelic elements.

This is another majestic outing for this fast rising pair.

PREMIERE: Singletrax - Bulgarian Mistery (Original Mix) [Eternalism]

For our next Heinz Music release, we have to fresh faces from Italy joining the family. Avikal and Max Bartolesi are deeply embedded in the Milan music scene, where they for instance have co-founded the legendary party series ODD. Together they have delivered four exquisite tracks that make up the new “Persistance Of Time EP”.  
First off, the title track is a melancholic and beautiful ode to the dark hours of the night with a driven energy giving the foundation for quirky synth elements and slick percussions.  Secondly, we get a progressive take on “Persistance Of Time” in their very own Progressive House Remix. Tighter drums and sharper percussions dissolve the softness we met in the first version, while the synths take on a dreamy form working towards the building tension in the break. 
“Global Effect” takes it down a notch again, and here the guys focus on highlighting more subtle changes in the dynamics of the song. Fourth track of the release is “In My Hands”. Here we really dive in to a kind of shamanic atmosphere with beautiful vocals surrounding the enchanting synths.

Sound Avenue continues to stoke a flame that was first lit at Amsterdam Dance Event 2019. Heavily played by Hernan Cattaneo, “Embers” by Eric Lune returns to the label spotlight. Fellow Melbournian GMJ now delivers an equally fierce debut! By dismantling the original, he brings attention to its main themes. Sturdy beats, euphoric atmos and catchy leads remain focal points. At the same time, characteristic “deep, spatial” nuances fill out the mix.

The latest release from Tash’s Movement Recordings welcomes Starkato back to the label for a new EP. The German artist has found a comfortable home on the Greek imprint with this being his ninth appearance. Also laying claim to releases on Hernan Cattaneo’s Sudbeat Music, Beatfreak and ICONYC, the Wiesbaden resident remains an in-demand talent across the melodic techno landscape. Having most recently collaborated with Movement boss Tash on ‘SQR’, Starkato now makes a welcome return to the label with ‘Sunspots’ alongside a remix from D-Nox & K.A.L.I.L.

Continuing with ‘Python’ Starkato follows a similar sonic ethos with a tough, arp driven slice of cosmic techno. Once again, a series of emotive swells off sets its crunchy drive and piercing effects for a perfect balance of colour and texture.
