Grigoré makes his SPECTRUM debut with a remake of Push's 'Strange World'

It's a brave artist that sets their sights on remaking a true 'Classic', from any genre. Productions that are steeped in history. A soundtrack to millions of personal moments across a myriad of global dancefloors, headphones and stereos. Music that means so much to so many. Some will actively avoid it, while others have always dreamt of adding their signature to a monument.

Push 'Strange World' is undoubtedly considered a Trance classic. Originally released on Bonzai back in 2000, it was immediately overshadowed by M.I.K.E. Push's own '2000' Remake from the same package. The golden era (arguably) for the genre was coming to a close and whilst previous years had seen a slew of historic hits there was still room for more. 'Strange World' with its spine-tingling and unforgettable melody, breakbeat-driven breakdown and the epic finale is still considered one of the very best.

Diynamic and This Never Happened artist, Grigoré, showed no fear when he set out to recreate 'Strange World' in his own vision. 'I remember hearing the track for the first time and having my mind completely blown. That feeling has stuck with me and each time I hear the original I still feel it, physically. When I set out to recreate the track, I wanted to try and maintain that original vibe and energy, but with a new sound and feeling.'

Grigoré's 'Strange World' is a slow burner. Bubbling away in a cauldron of synth, the original melody still shines bright, be it at a slower pace, and the orchestral feeling still sweeps us along throughout. Drum rolls abound and bassline drives, to create a respectful and supremely effective remake.

“In the Immensity of Time" — as it is titled — tells the story of a celestial odyssey, a collision of mind against heart in the vastness of space, a light glimpsed in the deepest darkness. Through sound, Binaryh captures the moment when two becomes one, in the simplest of ways.

This EP is a dual tale told from two sides, starting off with "Sagan" and its rhythmic energy. Like a searchlight, the track wanders through foreign sounds and deep percussions, building euphonic momentum and seeking harmony in the void.

The answer to this burning call comes through the track "Druyan", which beautifully glides between a floating sense of peace and high-intensity peaks, with rolling waves of hard-hitting bass tying them together.

Like their brilliant namesakes (Carl Sagan & Ann Druyan), these two tracks work in tandem to find meaning in nothingness, orbiting around each other in a frenzied dance.

Citizen Kain’s remix of "Sagan" comes to complete this stellar narrative with a resounding sign-off. The vibrating, haunting track brings the EP to an end with a dark undertone and a driving tempo that unfolds with purposeful tension.

Give it a listen and embark on an obscure trek through outer space and an astral love for the ages.

Julia Tamzyn releases her debut EP, Refraction on June 30th 2023 with Elevator Program, featuring 4 Deep and Organic House tracks that blend smoldering beats with vocal harmonies that will get under your skin. These sublime dance-floor tunes manage to feel fragile and powerful, nostalgic and up-lifting. Not only do they reflect Julia’s craft but also the cityscapes that inspired them; Barcelona, Warsaw, Vienna and Berlin, making them intimate and timeless. 

Julia sets the tone of Refraction with a classic sunrise track, Let Things Go. Opening on a tableau of shadowy snares that build to tender piano notes, this track showcases the haunting heartbreak of Pete Simpson’s vocals. The delicate interplay of velvety, aching vocal and sinuous percussion falls to a soft decrescendo and comes back to a thumping beat, making it impossible not to get up and dance. From here, Julia goes deeper.. 

The next track, By Night, is reminiscent of the best of early 2000s deep house with its ghostly vocal flourishes, heartfelt melodic refrain and warm beats. Written in Warsaw in the early hours, this tune evokes the atmospherics of the city’s late night beauty. 

Nova follows and couldn’t be more different – playful with a textured rhythm. Written in the final days of a summer in Vienna, you can feel the sun on your face as the guitar riff takes you away.

Likewise, the last tune, Origins, will carry you to distant lands. With its rowdy beat and tribal bass-line, this tune has an anthem-like quality that demands turning the stereo up full volume. 

ARTIST BIO 

Julia Tamzyn started her DJ career on pirate radio in the 90s in Sheffield, U.K. Since then, she’s gone on to perform sets at hundreds of gigs and residencies in clubs worldwide, including Berlin (Ostgut/Klunkerkranich), Hong Kong (Drop/Ozone), and New York (Gateway, Konkrete Jungle). She started producing her own music in 2018 using Ableton Live. 

In 2020, she worked with Will Kinsella’s (Hybrasil) Elevator Program to hone her Ableton skills, and later, she joined Paul Nolan’s MYT community and received pivotal feedback on her music. Now, in 2023, she is releasing her debut EP with Will Kinsella’s Elevator Program label. She also recently launched a Youtube channel for mini-performances using a variety of controllers and Ableton Live. She’s currently working on a second EP and a full live performance of original music.
