This is the 106th Ambient Sessions presented by Deep Electronics. These monthly released sessions brings you the best and the most diversity Ambient music can offer. This month Blank Gloss makes his debute here on the channel.

Bio:
Blank Gloss is the California-based duo of Patrick Hills and Morgan Fox who originally met through their shared interest and involvement in punk and hardcore music. The two began recording together as a duo at the Patrick's studio, Earthtone Recording Company, in 2020. The largely improvised recording session resulted in their first album, January, which was released on Night Young Records later that year. They quickly followed their debut with a contribution to Kompakt's Pop Ambient series and a full length, titled Melt, also released on Kompakt in the summer of 2021. They follow up Melt with their next longer player, Cornered, which finds the duo still exploring the vast expanse of ambient music, but with a slightly more minimal, stark result. By peeling back the layers of their music, they’ve revealed both its restful core and its solemn gravitas. It is unendingly lovely, but with something disquieting at its center.

About the mix:
We wanted to do something that felt quiet while still having variation with this mix. It has some recent favorites as well as a couple of our own songs. It moves from gentle and bright to contemplative to somber. There is everything from drone to slow moving piano to percussion and beyond.

https://soundcloud.com/mattxavier has been a friend of mine for many years now. A fellow music obsessive and trusted voice when it comes to all things ambient, techno, and beyond, we finally managed to meet in person while I lived in Los Angeles, and we stayed connected over music ever since. 

We’ve swapped stories about pressing vinyl and running labels, and he was the reason I first crossed paths with Joel Mull (Damm) at one of his gatherings held at a beautiful Topanga home. It was a serendipitous moment that still echoes today. 

A proponent for the deeper layers found in music, Matt has since become a practician, ambassador, and pioneer for psychedelic soundtracking. Along the way, he shared tracks from ASIP and other labels that were influencing and guiding his private sessions, shaping the grand masterpiece we present to you today. As his practice deepened, we exchanged many texts discussing his ambition to publish a book about his unique experience and include an accompanying mix on ASIP.

Matt is the author of The Psychedelic DJ: A Practical Guide to Therapeutic Music Curation and Psilocybin-Assisted Therapy (https://a.co/d/3Rj3G4r), a guide for facilitators and psychonauts that combines DJ techniques, counseling, music curation, and psychedelic therapy. As a seasoned DJ, mental health counselor, and psychedelic guide, his work sits at the crossroads of music, healing, and expanded consciousness.

With over 30 years of experience exploring sound and psychedelics—from pioneering New York City’s early ’90s psytrance scene to cofounding the techno/house label Railyard Recordings—Matt eventually shifted his focus from nightlife to clinical psychology. Today, he runs Integrated Psychedelics (https://integratedpsychedelics.com), a private practice dedicated to guided journeywork, preparation, and integration support for psychedelic experiences.
