Synthbiont & Anassimandrus is the ambient/experimental project born at the end of 2018 by the collaboration between Nicolò Faggiani and Tommaso Gobbo.
Their musical background comes from different musical experiences as DJs, vinyl collectors, and founders of Electronic Music Culture podcast series.
Making converge their love for electronic sounds, field recording, and meditative experiences, Nicolò and Tommaso shaped Synthbiont & Anassimandrus project around the research of the deepest ambient atmospheres. The core idea is to create musical journeys in which the listener can enjoy an immersive and emotional experience in a unique soundscape.

About the Mixtape
Recorded at Paradigm Festival 2023 at the Valhalla stage, the mix is a 3-hour music journey combining ambient carpets, organic field recordings, mystical traditional music, and experimental sounds. We wanted to explore new sounds and releases as well as to come back to our vinyl archive, to re-discover ambient gems that we collected over the years.

Bio:
Tomas Jirku began making music in the golden era of minimal and glitch techno and helped to define the genres. Over twenty five years, fifteen albums, sixteen vinyl EPs, and countless remixes and compilations later, he has built a strong repertoire with his exploratory approach to music. After taking a break to focus on developing and exhibiting his experimental photography, he brought both worlds together with his most recent album on Silent Season and live performances which incorporate his otherworldly videos. Jirku's return to music is also marked by the inception of a new project under the alias Machine Emotion which sees him leaning into his longtime love of industrial music to make uncompromising techno and electro.

This has been an ongoing tradition for over a decade (by my count, this is the 13th year). This time, I didn’t even reach out with a friendly reminder. Mike Jedlicka of Optic Echo just let me know that he’s already on it, and here we are with a selection of his favourite vinyl releases of the year. Every single year, I complain about the amount of music, and every single year, I keep wanting even more. And even as I drown in all of the releases, it’s always amazing to discover new and fantastic sounds from a trusted source. This trusted source, of course, is Mike Jedlicka. Even if our tastes do not align on all the genres (and that’s a good thing, may I add), I can always appreciate a good selection when I hear one. We are thrilled to present to you @6047, also known as 6047 (GOAT), a Los Angeles-based open-format electronic DJ and producer. His musical diversity is beautifully reflected in both his mixes and productions.

Influenced by a wide array of electronic music styles, including house, techno, synth-pop, italo disco, freestyle, and electro, @6047 is known for his meticulous attention to detail. With 20 years of experience and progression, he specializes in programming conceptually rich and deconstructed mixes. His expertise extends to creating locked grooves and progressive mixes that traverse the spectrum from noise to jungle.

Rather than inundating you with a lengthy biography in the third person, @6047 prefers to let his music speak for itself. Welcome to the 118th chapter of the Deep Electronics Podcast. A weekly podcast that brings you the best deep music. This weeks set is compiled and mixed by El Choop! 

Bio:

El Choop, AKA Harvey Jones, found his way to electronic music from the lesser-trodden path of classical and Spanish guitar. Born and raised in a small town in mid-Wales, Jones came face-to-face with the wily, darker reaches of drum & bass at forest parties deep in the hills. Inspired by stories of the 909 and other drum machines, it wasn’t long before Jones became a fully-fledged hardware fanatic.

Before too long, Bristol called, and with it came a softer sound, as Jones discovered and was in turn inspired by producers like Rod Modell and Mauritzio. With the urban landscape as his backdrop and playground, Jones began sculpting his own sound.

Now obsessed with distorted delays and gritty echoes, he spends his time weaving what is most easily described as dub techno, but the reality is there is no proper name for it. There is no proper name because El Choop’s music, much like the man behind it, is part of a new generation of producers on the dusky edges of the scene: breaking boundaries, firing loops, and, as you might expect, making feet tap and heads spin.

El Choop joins the Default Position roster for 2016 with his lush new dub techno EP "A Jaded City" coming very soon.

Bio:

Claudio was born in Turin (Italy) at the end of the eighties. As a young man claudio he approaches the music by playing guitar,in adolescence begins to fall in love of the electronic music. Atmospheric sounds , hot pads , deep bass and melodic leads were for him love at first listen! At the age of 15 he buy his first deck and began to collect vinyls, techno, house, progressive and ambient are the preferred styles. Claudio at 17 age begins playing at private parties, in 2008 some of his sets are transmitted on radio exogroove. At 20 age Claudio approaches the world of keyboards and began playing the piano and organ. Specialized as operator electronic, Claudio begins to repair old analog synthesizers, the buying and selling are his hobby. He is currently studying the sound synthesis and modulation to recreate a day a his personal style.

Bio:

 I started Deep Electronics more then 3 years ago with idea to combine photography with electronic music. For a couple of years now I’ve been photographing everything from nature to abstract, people. Especially with the travels I make for work. And I had the idea to combine it with the electronics music I love such as techno, dubtechno, ambient music (especially dark ambient and drone), IDM, deep techno. I wanted the artwork to be as the music.

A little while back we premiered new music from @o-utlier, an up and coming London based producer who recently released on the new Secretsundaze sub label SZE. Prior to this he had previously rather impressively released music on the infamous label Soul people run by Fred P as well as Naif and Appian Sounds. His sound sees him blend intricate samples alongside delicately crafted soundscapes and ambient incarnations. His production embodies a youthful energy yet comes across as far more learned than you might perhaps expect. Over the coming years we anticipate him to take the next step, his music warrants that.

“(There is no) There There” is the first single from Rumpistol's upcoming sixth album “After the Flood”, out later this year on ØEN REC.

The track and the album as a whole represents a significant creative shift towards a more classical and analogue sound partly due to Rumpistol suffering a stress-related burnout, which forced him to work in a completely new, minimalistic manner away from computer screens.

The new compositions all stem from composing on the piano. Therapeutically, as well as artistically, this turned out to be rewarding, which is evident when listening to “(There is no) There There”, which has an uplifting, ethereal quality to it, yet remains tangible, almost tactile, in its use of organic, non-electronic instruments and textures.

Rumpistol also invited other artists and musical instruments to join in: Mike Sheridan plays an old french glass organ called 'Cristal Baschet' in addition to Line Felding on cello, Maria Jagd on violin and Emil de Waal on drums.

During his burnout Jens went on walks around his city and if you listen closely you can hear how Jens' own field recordings of Copenhagen's many construction sites blend with the other instruments of the track.

Jens says about the track:

"The track deals with the feeling of being an alien in your own city - and in your own mind. Not to be able to recognize your own backyard, due to the constant development and gentrification going on. The title is inspired by the book "There There" by Tommy Orange who got his title from American novelist Gertrude Stein."

The concept I had in mind for this mix was loose at the beginning. I wanted to create something that was happy, uplifting and melodic, as opposed to anything dark during these already dark times (and it’s very easy for me to go that way) I ended up turning to a lot of 90’s (and new but 90’s influenced) music, a couple of classics and reissues, and found myself dreaming of new worlds - that era of music had the most amazing power to transport you for some reason. 

The mix starts off with Ambient, but quickly moves into more dub, uptempo, breaks, beats and full-on Trance... Those of you who know me well, know I love Trance music and surprisingly this is the first time I’ve managed to sneak it into an ASIP mix.

ASIP - Dream The Daydream

Shimmering Moods is an independent boutique ambient label based in Amsterdam. In the last couple of years, it has released albums by Halftribe, Andrew Tasselmyer, Anthéne, øjeRum, Purl, and Olan Mill, among the many recognized names in its quickly growing roster of artists. It's easy to get lost in its catalog among the hazy, shuffling, dubbed-out sounds, glinting and shimmering, reflecting the light off the still misty waters. This is a very tranquil and radiant place, slightly subdued in its faint hazy colors. "The music offers the listener a soundtrack for daydreaming, walks around the city or in nature, a creative activity, meditation, or invites them to a fully concentrated listen."
