"This Slumber Session mix gave me a great opportunity to make a playlist of something I would want to listen to when unwinding, or to just fall asleep to. I wanted it to be able to exist in the background, without focus, whilst at the same time having elements of detail and beauty scattered amongst the layers of sound unravelling as the mix progresses.

In some ways you can think of it as a soundtrack to a dream. There are moments of calm flowing smoothly into more abstract sections. Textures build to go from sparse emotive landscapes to darker, brooding moments of tension. I wanted it to be dynamic, taking in a variety of styles and influences, whilst giving the listener a coherent experience and painting some interesting images in their minds.

It also gave me the chance to put in a lot of unreleased tracks of mine. I make a wide variety of styles outside of my normal output, so it was great to have an outlet for some of that material. There are also a lot of field recordings I've made over the last few years throughout the mix, including some from my travels. The opening section of music features the sounds of walks in Sydney and San Francisco, which at the time was just some subconscious grabbing of sound recordings without any kind of artistic purpose - it just sounded cool at the time. It seemed fitting when I realised where the sounds were from, as the mix would have been the perfect playlist for a lot of my sleep deprived travels.

I ended up getting so involved putting together this mix that there's a lot of live tweaks of outboard reverb and delay units layered on certain tracks to try and get the sense of space I wanted to achieve and give the mix some breathing space. I find that ambient music can be incredibly beautiful and achieve the range of emotions other music can. I hope that you enjoy the musical selection and can immerse yourself in it, even with the emphasis away from the hooks and rhythms of traditional electronic dance music."

Welcome to the 1th chapter of the Ambient Sessions presented by Deep Electronics. This is the very first podcast to explore the realms of Ambient music. The first producer is Cryobiosis! Enjoy a journey into the spherical sounds and field recording dwelling in textures. Sometimes dark but always with a touch of brightness. Sit back and enjoy!!

Bio:

  Cryobiosis is an ambient project from Cluj, Romania created by Cristian Voicu. The project attempts to paint with sound the environment and feelings that surround a man who awakens in a harsh and frigid post-apocalyptic world. Industrial ruins spread before his eyes while strange voices and distant signals echo through the dark mist. As he begins to discover the remnants of the old world, past memories of atrocities and terrible wars unfold inside his shattered memory.The music generally consists of haunting pads blended with field recordings, piano melodies and subtle rhythms. A lot of care has been put in the details and quality of the tracks.

   The first Cryobiosis album, “From the Depths” has been released in August 2012. In the fall of 2012, Cryobiosis became a part of the Cryo Chamber label and contributed a song, “Departure” to the label’s first compilation, “Behind The Canvas Of Time”. The second Cryobiosis album, titled “Within Ruins” was released in 2013 on Cryo Chamber and was well received by critics and listeners. "Inner Stasis" was released in July 2014 on Cryo Chamber, continuing and completing the bleak story from the previous albums.

Meeting up on the Interwebz somewhere in '98, a mutual love for drum 'n' bass was the foundation for a great friendship and a musical alliance in multiple genres. After hosting radioshows and DJ'ing for years, Cyance is currently producing and remixing tracks for labels like Mindtrick and Touched. Southern Depot has never lost and will never lose his love for drums, but a new passion for quite the opposite in the musical spectrum surfaced some years back for the both of them: ambient music from light to dark. Together, Cyance and Southern Depot create their 'Aerial Views' ambient mixes.

Bio:

Darren Harper (b.1970) is an experimental/ambient sound artist residing high within the Rocky Mountains of Colorado.
Drawing from both electronic and acoustic sources, his compositional output is based entirely on experimentation and improvisation, with a strong emphasis on minimalism, and often reflects a desire for a greater understanding of nature and self, and the relationship therein…

Welcome to the 5th chapter of the Ambient Sessions presented by Deep Electronics. MIxed by Apobothra from Moscow, Russia.

Bio:

Aleksei Klimkin (Apobothra) is a Moscow based electronic music producer who has been inspired by such musicians as The Future Sound of London, Autechre, Biosphere, Brian Eno, Basic Channel / Rhythm & Sound, DeepChord / Echospace, ASC / Mindpsan, bvdub, Fluxion, Quantec, Fingers In The Noise and others. Starting with drum&bass in 2006 his tastes have gradually shifted to deeper electronic music such as dub techno, deep techno and ambient. Many of his tracks have been supported by some big names on the scene. His first release with Apobothra alias was released on Spaceal Orbeats label in the end of 2013 and simultaneously became his first album. It is called ‘In Search for an Explanation’ and the production style there is based on author’s intoxication by science and particularly by astrophysics.
In real life "Apobothra" is an astronomical term whose meaning is quite similar to "Apogee", but while Apogee is the point of greatest distance between the Earth and its orbiting object, Apobothra is the furthermost point on the Black Hole orbit.

Welcome to the 21st chapter of the monthly Ambient Sessions presented by Deep Electronics. This months Live Set is created by the Dutch group MATJAMI. Read there description how they created this very meditive music combined with electronic sampling. Enjoy.

Bio

MATJAMI: Acoustic-electronic soundscapes, deep ethnic beats, slow trance, empty space: meditation by listening, moving and playing.  

Use good speakers or headphones to enjoy the rich, deep sounds and binaural recordings.

We three at MATJAMI (Marcel Bode, Tjalling de Leeuw, Mike de Leeuw) develop our sounds and grooves as we interact live, using our bronze, wooden and stringed instruments, (Balinese gamelan & gongs, singing bowls, big Tibetan horns, Chinese Guxing & Gongs, Javanese kendang drums, timpani, beer bottles, PVC-pipe didgeridoo) with Native electronics, samples and live loops. The quality and the texture of our sounds are at least as important as the composition. 
All you hear here was recorded live, with only some simple stereo and eq mixing afterwards.

We enjoy tremendously collaborating with inspiring audio-artists also on SoundCloud: VictorYibril, Miraela, Diederik Idenburg, Fintan O'Brien, Icheon, Yasyntha and Phlip Smith (G.A.), combining their very different music styles, voices, field recordings and soundscapes with our soundscapes and ethnic beats… Melodies of the Heart connect around the World (Soul Fury)
 
One of our tracks has now been selected for the audio tour at the Groningen Museum for its modern art selection, and we may shortly be performing live next to a famous Dutch Philharmonic Orchestra…

Emotional Response starts 2017 with a mini-album of ambient-equatorial enlightenment by Australia’s mysterious Tropical Hi-Fi.  The final record from an artist appearing on the label’s Schleißen series, this also points to the future.

Based somewhere in the far flung Northern Territories, the music of Hi-Fi’s pre-incarnation Electric Egypt was first discovered via the note-worthy airwaves of L.A’s outstanding Dublab radio station. 

As the wonderfully diverse internet shows and project’s dense, hip-hop inspired collages came to fruition with 2012’s Exotica release, a dual awareness and sporadic contact was maintained whenever a signal could be established with Hi-Fi base camp.   As the Schleißen series was formed, the studio-DJ-cut-up-mix of Oceanic Mythology was warmly received as an inspired counterpoint to the dense offering from Don’t DJ.

These first real solo recordings from the Hi-Fi crew - whoever he/she/they maybe -  moves on from the cut’n’paste of Electric Egypt to seek a meditative vision.  

Ambient, drone and field recordings are all part of a drifting tropical flavour that encompasses the listener.   Music truly inspired by it’s surroundings, this is not some music journal, flying in to sample a life and it’s sounds, but the real, living entity and it can be heard deep across the 8 short pieces.   

None is more typified than Tahiti Blue, where fellow traveler Mike Cooper layers his ubiquitous steel blues over simple, lilting drums.   Mixed by Leaving Record’s Matthewdavid (with whom more to come on the label in 2017) and the ever-present encouragement of friend and neighbour, Ariel Kalma, this is conceptual album to lay back, drift off on undulating swells and simply, let go to.
