A year of discoveries. Thinking back through the last year, there has been a plethora of fantastic labels, and artists that have passed under the Sundays banner. This Sunday and month in general also marks the second year of monthly playlists, and guest mixes. The latter of which is our focus for today as we welcome an incredible producer, Inhmost. From beat to beat-less, his refined approach to crafting ambient mixes provides listeners with auditory tales that flow so well, all while working in a variety of moods and feelings. This mix provides in spades, as such we’re incredibly happy to soundtrack this Sunday morning with Inhmost.

There are many different ways that the biosphere affects climate. Some produce greenhouse gases and promote warming of our planet through the greenhouse effect, while others reduce the amount of greenhouse gases promoting cooling of our planet. Thereby, by trapping heat, greenhouse gases contribute to our planet's warming and the biosphere provides the necessary environmental conditions for survival. And of course, Biosphere is the moniker of one Geir Janssen, who has been a constant influence on ambient music throughout his career. Fingers in the Noise - Drone Journey

The Rhodes piano moved back into the central circle of my keyboards last year and I keep being drawn to it for its chimey warm voice. This piece is carried by the Rhodes and has a slow groove created by synth pulses and my fretless bass (the one Tony Levin gave me!). I've been deep into making long-form music lately, but these shorter more overtly melodic pieces are always part of my world, too. I hope "A Resting Place" provides a few moments of peace in an otherwise crazy world.

Mesh Series 006: Ben Lukas Boysen

A curated series where we commission artists to make an hour long mix of whatever inspires them to experiment, produce, play out and what they listen to.


"This particular mix blends together many of the influences that follow me around in my every day work. Often the biggest inspiration lies in very basic harmonic structures or textures that’s why i combined some of my favourite ambient pieces with a number of, partially binaural, field recordings i took in the black forest last year. Ben Lukas Boysen has made a career out of transforming unusual sounds into compelling music. His first electronic compositions at 18 were experiments with samplers and tape loops leading to an album in 2003 and the subsequent foundation of his own Berlin studio. Since, he has produced multiple albums (many under the alias HECQ), and led numerous workshops on composition and sound aesthetics, as well as creating custom sound design for films, commercials, video games and installations. Boysen’s first film score for „Restive" premiered in 2011, followed by his debut album under his own name in 2013, and the award-winning score for the Sony Playstation game, Everything, in 2016 as well as Amazon series „BEAT“ in 2018 and the score for the  film adaptation of best seller „The Collini Case“ in 2019.

Mesh Series 06: Ben Lukas Boysen

Coppice Halifax ~ Deepwoods Mixture + BWV-UE0001 [1.6]

Deepwoods Mixture is a Coppice Halifax "DJ set" performed live in studio at the White Pillar Workshop in February 2020 using a minimal configuration of hardware (Akai S2800, Boss RC20, Moog MF-101, Korg MS-20, Grass S10CTCMA, Pioneer SR202W) and software/automation (FL Studio 20) routed through the veins of an Optimus SSM-1750 mixing board. It adapts and reconstitutes specific sections of six previously issued longform CH recordings into a new and seamless listening experience, set over subtle field recordings conducted in the overgrown ravine behind the Workshop. Intended for both low-level, intimate bedroom playback as well as hi-fi presence on loudspeaker/club systems, Deepwoods Mixture has been fashioned as an invitation to the Analog Botany of Coppice Halifax for newcomers and seasoned visitors alike.

Following the Deepwoods Mixture is a new hour-long recording, premiering on Deep Breakfast, for/from a series of works titled 'Halifaxian Cantos'. As the title might imply, these pieces represent the wordless prose of the Halifaxian continent, intimate and minimalistic devotionals sung to the seasons, the sea and the stars beyond them. Coppice Halifax has long maintained an ethos of acting as Aquarius the water-bearer, bringing forth decorative vessels of elemental splendor for both sustenance and reflection, and these cantos have taken shape via this same approach, using a near-generative process that deifies and transmutes orchestral provenance into the almost infinite. A microcosmic study in ambient techno, drone music and process-driven synthesis, Halifaxian Cantos further explore and christen the unmapped lands of the Halifaxian landscape, offering a recorded output that is both tranquil and evocative in their wake. Longtime CH listeners will appreciate noticeable references to Verdant Acre, Reflector, Ferrolog, Dripping Earth and the now-numerous Arborist's Excavations in these works.
