Stumbling upon an LTJ Bukem mix cd as a teenager, a love for drum ?n bass manifested itself early in Watcher (Arjan van Vliet). After showing much promise as a humble bedroom dj, he set out to make club and radio appearances all over Holland alongside some of the scene?s biggest names, establishing himself as a sought-after opening dj and earning him a Dutch Drum ?n Bass Award nomination in 2007. 

Today Watcher is a seasoned and well-rounded dj who continues to hone his craft and perfect his signature brand of deep, tight and rolling drum ?n bass sets. 

But he also mixed a dark ambient set with ice cold tracks that brings you in a isolation. This mix is highly recommended for headphones!!

NorthernShore is a project about deep journeys into electronic music. Deeply influenced by the kinds of Echospace, Intrusion, DeepChord & Bvdub these journeys are mainly created for home listening and escaping everyday life. Dasha Rush is a Russian born artist who sees the genre as a starting place not a destination. She is a respected and well-travelled DJ and live performer, but her work is equally focussed away from the dance floor, and sometimes away from music itself. Her recent album for Raster-Noton, Sleepstep, could be a metaphor for her work: "These 16 pieces are transmissions from that state between sleep and wakefulness," said Tony Naylor, a reflection of the in-between zones her music often inhabits. Dubby but intense, brutal but tender, foggy yet clear—Sleepstep was a wonderful mass of contradictions. Not being one thing or the other is vitally important to Rush, which goes hand-in-hand with her strong independent streak. The majority of the music she's released since starting out in 2005 has come through her own Fullpanda label and, as she told us in 2013, she's resistant to playing the publicity game in the way many in the scene do. That's meant she's remained off the radar for some techno fans, but it's also given her the freedom to explore projects and sounds as she pleases. With all this mind, it was little surprise that our invitation to record a podcast was met with, "Yes, but it won't be a club mix." What we got instead was an absorbing 65 minutes of dense ambient soundscapes that shows Rush at her most reflective. The mix comes ahead of the North American premiere of Antarctic Takt, Rush's A/V show with Stanislav Glazov, at this week's Mutek festival in Montreal.

Mysteries Of The Deep XLI - CERTAIN CREATURES | NASADIYA SUKTA

Welcome to the 118th chapter of the Deep Electronics Podcast. A weekly podcast that brings you the best deep music. This weeks set is compiled and mixed by El Choop! 

Bio:

El Choop, AKA Harvey Jones, found his way to electronic music from the lesser-trodden path of classical and Spanish guitar. Born and raised in a small town in mid-Wales, Jones came face-to-face with the wily, darker reaches of drum & bass at forest parties deep in the hills. Inspired by stories of the 909 and other drum machines, it wasn’t long before Jones became a fully-fledged hardware fanatic.

Before too long, Bristol called, and with it came a softer sound, as Jones discovered and was in turn inspired by producers like Rod Modell and Mauritzio. With the urban landscape as his backdrop and playground, Jones began sculpting his own sound.

Now obsessed with distorted delays and gritty echoes, he spends his time weaving what is most easily described as dub techno, but the reality is there is no proper name for it. There is no proper name because El Choop’s music, much like the man behind it, is part of a new generation of producers on the dusky edges of the scene: breaking boundaries, firing loops, and, as you might expect, making feet tap and heads spin.

El Choop joins the Default Position roster for 2016 with his lush new dub techno EP "A Jaded City" coming very soon.

Bio:

Claudio was born in Turin (Italy) at the end of the eighties. As a young man claudio he approaches the music by playing guitar,in adolescence begins to fall in love of the electronic music. Atmospheric sounds , hot pads , deep bass and melodic leads were for him love at first listen! At the age of 15 he buy his first deck and began to collect vinyls, techno, house, progressive and ambient are the preferred styles. Claudio at 17 age begins playing at private parties, in 2008 some of his sets are transmitted on radio exogroove. At 20 age Claudio approaches the world of keyboards and began playing the piano and organ. Specialized as operator electronic, Claudio begins to repair old analog synthesizers, the buying and selling are his hobby. He is currently studying the sound synthesis and modulation to recreate a day a his personal style.

I had a free spot this month so I took the challenge to mix an ambient set. So I searched as always my harddisk and collection and put this mix together. A more deep and haunting set bringing dark ambient and drone music together. So enjoy!!

Bio:

 I started Deep Electronics more then 3 years ago with idea to combine photography with electronic music. For a couple of years now I’ve been photographing everything from nature to abstract, people. Especially with the travels I make for work. And I had the idea to combine it with the electronics music I love such as techno, dubtechno, ambient music (especially dark ambient and drone), IDM, deep techno. I wanted the artwork to be as the music.

Our latest in the series comes from the ever-inspiring Slowfoam. A beloved friend to many here in Seattle and, until very recently, a resident as well. Her mix for us, which couples well with a leisurely stroll to a nearby body of water, immerses you in her undeniable talent to capture the subtleties of organic surroundings--the large brush strokes and delicate intricacies alike. The trees and the forest. 

The set flows towards the ambient - it has a steady calming sensation woven throughout, with an occasional uprising of the eerie. It’s truly beautiful and a testament to the producer's keen ability to express emotions and experiences through sound.

With two excellent releases out on Jungle Gym Records and a self-released EP under her belt, Slowfoam has recently decided to take on the task of recording her first studio LP. While her kickstarter campaign is fully funded, additional funds are still of great help - we urge you to take a peek!

About Max:

Max Würden lives and works in Cologne Germany. He is since 1987 a musician and producer. In 2001 he started also with soundtrack productions. But in 2000 his music took shape when he started creating ambient music. Using samples, loops, field recordings and instruments. A variaty of genres came across his path: Ambient, soundscapes and dub ambient. To get the maximum experience he performs live.

From poking stove elements with pencils, to recording the ambience of a teapot, and playing balcony railings, mnk is an album which restlessly re-imagines everyday sounds. FenGi is the moniker of the Turkish sound artist Altuğ Kaptan, and mnk represents his extended examination of the vibratory and the resonant. It is an album which blurs the boundary between object and instrument, at one point Altuğ performs by simply opening and closing doors, at another he reworks recordings of the violin. Altuğ describes himself as someone who ceaselessly records sounds, seeking spontaneous moments amid the everyday. In his debut solo album mnk we discover an artist both courageous and frenetic, who sitting amid the boiling stove pots, and the sliding doors of his home finds music.

With a new format and back to a regular monthly schedule, Pluie/Noir Interscapes will feature audio collages, mixes, live interviews and live recordings from P/N artists, friends, and other collectives we admire.

Because less is more, instead of the usual triptych format, this series will feature one single A3-A1 visual interpretation of the music by a graphic artist. The artwork will be available to purchase in poster format on our rebooted Bandcamp page very soon, with cassettes or CD-r of the mixes as a bonus.
