Drumcode continues its commitment to releasing the scene’s most cutting-edge techno. With releases this year already from Adam Beyer, Pig&Dan, Alan Fitzpatrick, Dense & Pika and Julian Jeweil, this July see’s the return of Enrico Sangiuliano with ‘Astral Projection’.

After his remix of Moby’s of ‘Why Does My Heart Feel So Bad’ back in November last year, Enrico sought creative inspiration from his travels, transcending that into his productions and long studio sessions during the winter months. The result brings a mind and body melting release from the Italian producer.

The title track ‘Astral Projection’ is a captivating, big room techno masterpiece. Deep reverberations punch alongside a sinisterly crisp percussive drive. Launching into a groove laden synth modulation of low end textures, it breaks down into an ethereal amalgamation of pads and synths before the vocal launches, taking this track to another level.

‘Blooming Era’ has destructive dancefloor intent. There is no holding back with the low end synth modulation which Enrico has mastered to perfection. A tightly woven percussive flare moulds flawlessly with the rolling oscillations of the beast of this track.

If you have seen label head honcho Adam Beyer playing anywhere on the globe in the last 5 months, this has been a peak time favourite. Road-tested to the max, and with much success.

Deep Electronics Podcast # 165 - Chrysalism

Cooked up with a more melodic vibe and fusing elements of house and techno, Dense & Pika’s latest outing on Drumcode offers something different compared to their previous work. There is still that vintage feel to each of the tracks with analogue sounds and arrangements born and developed from experimental studio jams. Indeed, ‘Suki’ heavily utilizes the distinct harmonic tones of the Dave Smith Prophet 8 keyboard. While ‘Little Sun’ - A staple of D&P performances over the last three months - delivers a more classic Drumcode sound. ‘Lanky’ closes out the release with an infectious slab of wonderfully wonked-out raw funk.

And on we go with yet another beautiful guest mix, this time it is Episode 36 and comes from one of the co-founders of the wonderful Intrinsic Audio Sessions (IAS) label , Chrysalism.
This one is yet another sublime mix sent in from one of the many talented DJ’s from South Africa and I am so glad to be able to feature it up on my page. 
It is a really delicate, warm and fragile deep and dubby set, and also features snippets of field recordings taken from a recent trip to the Costa Brava.

The intro and outro are both field recordings of taken in L’scala, a small town on the Costa Brava in Catalunya, Spain.

Dutch duo Makèz land on Detroit Swindle's Heist Recordings for the first time with their ‘Different Planets’ EP showcasing disco-tinged house with old school Chicago influences. Found within the new material is a remix from Belfast based DJ and founder of Body Fusion: Bobby Analog. He flips the title track with energy, building a soulful anthem highlighting warm chords, a seductive bass line and a jacking rhythm. The ‘Different Planets’ EP is essentially a complete package from Makèz and one that will have all eyes on them moving forward. 

‘Different Planets’ EP is set for release September 13 on vinyl and September 16 on digital.

The latest podcast comes from Forerunners. Brenden LaBonte a.k.a. Forerunners has released a steady stream of immersive and unique tracks over the past 8 years, with remixes and originals on various Solarstone labels, Sudbeat, Suffused, Saturate Audio, Silk Music, Perfecto, and others. Something of an enigma as an artist, this Arizona based producer is definitely in the ‘quality over quantity’ camp. Forerunners music is about the slow build, the journey, where filters ebb and flow, layers creep to the front then withdraw, where the percussion is hypnotic and the synths repetitive, and the melody draws the listener in with its subtlety, rather than a crass fanfare. It’s either early night material for trance rooms, or peak time material for intelligent progressive floors – spun by DJ’s who know how to work a room. This is what progressive trance music is all about.

🗯🗯 How Did Corona change your artist life? 🗯🗯

It changed virtually every aspect of my life as an artist.  All my upcoming dates were cancelled overnight and any potential future gigs were put on hold indefinitely.  My booking agency (which is now defunct) and I were in the middle of discussions with promoters in Argentina, Australia, Czech Republic, Vietnam, Bulgaria, Costa Rica, Canada, and more.

I was touring Thailand when I started noticing the situation becoming very serious.  The Full Moon Party, which is the largest gathering in Koh Phangan and a huge part of their economy, was suddenly stopped without warning.  By the time mid-March came around, I was in Hawaii doing my last performance before all international flights were blocked and lockdowns began.

Running my record label Perspectives Digital has now become my full-time job.  Mentally it’s been very challenging going from touring nearly every week down to zero, but thankfully there have been some positive things that came out of the pandemic.  I’m spending more time at home and working on things that I previously didn’t have time for, such as studying German and watching production tutorials.  I feel more connected with friends and family, plus I’m getting more sleep and staying healthier.

🗯🗯 Where did you record the mix and how did you feel? 🗯🗯

I recorded the mix in my home studio feeling extremely honored.  I moved to Berlin 3 years ago hoping to accelerate my music career.  It was so exciting to be approached by the Berlin Club Commission and be asked to provide a guest mix for United We Stream.  Thank you so much for the chance to participate in such a unique concept and opportunity!

🗯🗯  What are your wishes for the time after Corona? 🗯🗯

I hope things return to normal soon and the economy bounces back quickly.  It would be great if clubs can keep public hygiene in mind even when we’re not fighting a pandemic.

If there’s one change I’d like to see going forward, it’s that promoters should not be so overly dependent on adding huge international acts to their lineups.  I see this problem all the time when traveling to other countries.

Many times people don’t feel interested to attend a show or think they won’t have a good time unless the event has at least one big headliner.  The truth is, these extremely overpaid “big names” are merely just hype and not worth the price of admission.  The audience can often have just as good of a time listening to local DJ’s.

Local artists are the glue that hold this industry together and they deserve way more respect (and pay) than they’re currently getting!  Don’t forget that every big headliner DJ you know started his or her career in small clubs.

Welcome to the 296th Chapter of the Deep Electronics serie. A weekly released serie that brings you a diversity into the abyss of deep electronic music.This week is a brand new set mixed by returning artist Le Code.

Bio:
French born, Le Code produces deep, dub-influenced electronic music from ambient to techno. His sound is influenced by ambient and deep techno artists, and dub tech scene. Synth lover, he collects hardware to explore new musical horizon and pick new sounds into his tracks.

Alex (aka Le Code) is the owner of 2 electronic music labels : Apnea dedicated to dub techno and deep tech, and Mare Nostrum specialized in ambient. He also composes and arranges tracks for local artists in France, and teaches home studio and electronic music courses.

Le Code’s music is an audio exploration, a mix between melodic riffs, smooth ambiances and electronic beats.
