Bio:

if i had a hi fi is an electronic music producer living in the North East of England. He moved there to get away from the City (ahhh fresh air & smiling faces!) five years ago after spending nearly 20 years of living & playing (hard) in London.

He started out his musical life at the age of 14 as a Bass player, playing in many different bands (everything from Punk Rock to Reggae to Prog Rock) of varying virtues & degrees of success (not much.) Many adventures & lots of fun though! 

He first dabbled with electronic production in about 1992 after becoming infected by the Acid House, Rave and Techno scenes in London around that time. The UK Dub Reggae scene has also always been a massive influence (Who could forget Iration Steppas, Boomshakalacka & Aba-Shanti-I Soundclash nights in tiny railway arches!) 

These early efforts at electronic production were attempted with an Amiga 500 & Noise Tracker sequencer, an Alesis HR-16 drum machine and a Fostex 8 track mixer & reel 2 reel tape recorder. He owned none of this equipment but was lucky enough to be let loose on it by his house mates & collaborators. The Bass still figured largley, as indeed it always will. He worked with these same guys for a couple of formative years until getting deeper into the dancefloor vibe (PWOG, Detroit, Tresor, Weatherall, Lost, Orbital, The Orb, London Squat Parties & the ever present Dub scene) & then becoming a DJ with a new collective.

This collective was responsible for some Seminal events (some very popular & others not! Seminal none the less) in London during the mid nineties until the Chaos that they willingly invoked caused them to self destruct...

Since then he has continued to learn his trade as a producer on a much more private & part time basis (work & all that,) occasionally venturing out to play at small events, prefering to do the partying that to contribute...

He had about five years away from music after moving away from London with his Wife to start a family. They now have two beautiful boys...

After moving house again & having a spare room to call a "Studio" the equipment now has it's own pride of place, the beats & basslines are starting to rumble & if i had a hi fi feels his music is finally worthy of being out there ...

... so here it is!

Deep Electronics Podcast # 13 - If I had a hifi

Happy 13th anniversary Feed The Raver! 🥳 Never in my wildest dreams did I imagine that I was going to be DJing and producing music for 13 years and also curating a podcast for this long that was born and created with the purest intentions of helping, sharing and feature some of my favorite artists and their music. Connecting with so many people around the world has been extremely rewarding and magical. I’ve been always a music nerd, I started raving also when I was 13 even 🤣 so this celebration feels extra special. I have survived everything so far, so many podcast have come and gone and I’m still here dancing, discovering new artists and using music as my main connection to the universe and the divine ✨😌✨. I think I’ve decided I’m going to continue this journey until my last day in this world so hopefully one day I’ll be a grandma announcing  a 100th anniversary badass Feed The Raver episode and funny enough I’m sure this music will still be as relevant as it can be because sounds like these will remain true gems forever ✨🙌✨

On this special episode I'm excited to welcome back Monosphere (Jeroen Smulders), founder of the amazing label an podcast Deep Electronics. This is the second time he records an anniversary episode for FTR and I'm so happy to share this beautiful set with all of you. His label Deep Electronics is simply one of the best out there for these epic sounds so please check out all the releases. DE has been the space whree I've been sharing my productions so I'm super proud of being part of it.

"About our live hybrid set
We conceived our performance with storytelling practices in mind, starting with the idea of creating an atmosphere from which we developed our musical narration. You can hear this aspect at the beginning of our hybrid set, where the combination of ambient/dub sounds and field recordings aims to create an introductory and more neutral soundscape. After this kind of incubating phase, we embarked on our musical journey, merging more dramatic vibes with warm, meditative sounds. From there, we gradually introduced rhythmic patterns, with some tribalistic touches, to increase the energy and reach the climax in the final phase, culminating in a special drone dedication to Laurie Anderson.

It felt really being like home playing at Temple #8 (@espacio-perpendicular), such a warm atmosphere and lovely people! The feeling of appreciation and involvement left us with some amazing memories!"

melondruie may or may not be a mostly docile yeti living in the forests of the Pacific Northwest, making ambient/electronic music, putting together mixtapes, and occasionally venturing to the edges of civilization to share the results with humans of discerning taste. if you listen closely on cold, damp autumn nights, you can hear a low bass rumble emanating from the nearby woods along with the howls of the forest animals voicing their approval.
