If there is anything to be said about Neuronoa's "Curiocity" album, its WOWWWWW!!! With detail so refined, its like staring into the sun. With color so rich and dynamic, your reality is competing and racing with the genius of this music. Electronic rock and gestural sound design are at the speed of light evolving together for a better future, here in this modest package of 5 songs. Could not recommend this album more!

Creation, the hourlong free jazz album recorded in Berlin, is told in two tracks: the first, a rich introduction to the richness and chaos of Life, followed by an equally energizing conclusion. “Creation (Part One)” is a 15-minute track that opens with tendrils of sound: New York-based Sabir Mateen’s tenor saxophone exploring the very limits of its range, Christian Ramond’s steady double bass building momentum, Klaus Kugel’s layering drums dancing around a beat and Christopher Dell on the fluid, but warmly welcomed, Vibes that manage to pacify and ground the other instrumentation. The track is a masterful feat of interactive improvisation, showcasing the musicians’ talents as well as their chemistry, uniting American and European jazz scenes. Moreover, it offers a transcendent interpretation of their central idea: Creation, and the challenging, beautiful work of being alive.

ABOUT THE ALBUM
FACTS FIRST: CREATION presents one 47-minute, fully improvised 2012 live performance from Berlin, featuring three Germans and one New Yorker. The Germans are drummer Klaus Kugel, bassist Christian Ramond, and vibraphonist Christopher Dell. Kugel and Ramond have been frequent bandmates since the late ‘80s, currently with clarinetists Michel Pilz and Theo Jörgensmann. A beat is optional in this sort of free jazz, but momentum is a requirement, ands Kugel and Ramond, thinking in tandem, are expert at supplying it. I was unfamiliar with Dell before hearing him on Creation, for which I bear blame as a typically geocentric American, because he provides such color and contrast here, both in his solos and his backgrounds, that he’s now among my very favorite vibists,  along with Chicagoian Jason Adasiewicz. The wildcard is the sub-underground shock tenorist Sabir Mateen, who continues to be a mystery man in whatever scene he finds himself.
