A-TON is a new edition and platform of Berghain's in-house imprint Ostgut Ton, focussing on ambient, archive and alternative music, differing from the club-focussed records on the main label. Furthermore the first A-TON offering – Chronicles I – marks the start of a series from Luke Slater's The 7th Plain moniker, with remastered, previously released and unheard archive material.

First published on General Production Recordings between 1993 and 1996, Slater's The 7th Plain pushed the further burgeoning genre of ambient music towards its boundaries by not limiting itself to mostly beatless synth pads, but by including propulsive beat progressions, nuanced rhythms and subtle melodies. The 7th Plain's extramundane music dodged classification, as heard on the albums The 4 Cornered Room and My Yellow Wise Rug (both on GPR, 1994) – emotional, eerie and escapist music, at the time of release forward thinking records that in retrospect managed to overcome time.

Originally recorded at Slater's Spacestation Ø, now all newly mastered for A-TON, Chronicles I depicts the futurist aesthetic and musical agenda of the 90s in a contemporary context, without nostalgia but confidence of its timelessness. With seven original musical pieces and a previously unreleased Ken Ishii remix, The 7th Plain sounds as spirited and relevant as ever.

While “Boundaries” (taken from My Yellow Wise Rug), “Grace” and “Surface Bound” (from The 4 Cornered Room) should be familiar to Slater aficionados, “The Super 8”, “T Funk States”, “Slip 7 Sideways” and “Chords Are Dirty” are previously unheard like the aforementioned remix of Ishii's “Extra”.

Filled with contrasts in light and shadow and all the shades in between, Afterlife is thrilled to announce a collaborative release of Mind Against and Aether.  ‘Solaris’ is a melancholic listen in the form of a three track EP that brings in the light, dives in the dark and finally grounds you.

The title track ‘Solaris’ starts off with a poised, hypnotic groove that surges into arpeggiated chords, lighting the way. ‘Eclipse’ drifts off into a svelte bassline working with a darker, driven composition of synths. ‘Event Horizon’ finishes with an immaculately hewn journey, with focus on harmonic developments and whirring polymetrics.

The Cocteau Twins/This Mortal Coil-channelling, beatless widescreen opener “They Deserve Death” and the two collateral club/dancefloor tracks “Rubbish Of The Floodwaters” and “Weapons Inspection” offset each other by reincarnating the tape manipulation that laid the foundation of Vatican’s first performances with analog hardware and minimalist midi-dissection. Produced in Los Angeles with Josh Eustis, Vatican Shadow’s Rubbish Of The Floodwaters EP casts a full spectrum picture of where the project was born and where it headed.

Ness - Moving Through Illusions

Born from the desire to reintroduce on the market an outstanding, yet surprisingly unknown work of the 1980s, this ORAL release is also the result of a dialogue with hypermedia researcher and artist Konrad Becker, which occurred during chance, yet fruitful meetings. Sometimes in the path of a music lover and record collector, a work will beckon you, imposing itself with its singularity, depth and timelessness. MONOTONPRODUKT 07, produced in 1982, is such a work.

The original MONOTON album, MONOTONPRODUKT 07 is so alive with the pulses that triggered many Electronicas to come, from Techno through Trance to Mego’s creeping static, you could make a case for Becker’s guruhood. Yet, for all its prescient washed out tones, threadbare textures and Minimalist rigour, it has the edge on much that followed. Adopting an imperious art stance towards mainstreams and margins alike, Becker cast a cold analytic eye over Electronica’s urfathers, picking up on Suicide’s jittertronic urgency, if not their melodrama, and DAF’s throbbing sequencers, but with the sex threat removed, which he patched into his own crackling circuits, hissing vistas and tumbling beatstreams.

MONOTON, MONOTONPRODUKT 07 27y++ (2009)
MONOTONPRODUKT 07 27y++ is, in agreement with its author Konrad Becker, more than a CD re-release of the original two vinyl records. It is instead an updated work, subjected to sound digitalisation to bring out sounds and effects that would have been impossible to achieve when it first came out – the bass has the intended amplitude while high frequencies truly rejuvenate the whole. The author is finally able to hear what he was hoping for back then but could not achieve.

Prompted by an anthropological approach and a historical updating operation, this new work could be perceived as a work developed over a period of 27 years, in full respect of Konrad Becker’s creative process. And so MONOTONPRODUKT 07 becomes MONOTONPRODUKT 07 27y++.

Remasters and reissues of this important electronic pioneer’s work came out recently. ORAL CD02 was the first re-release of MONTONPRODUKTS on ORAL. This reissue of the out of print CD02 has faced a new mastering in 2009 by John Sellekaers, Metarc, bringing to light more details and a wider sound. 
After the widely acclaimed ORAL label’s reissues of Blau (1980), we continue a series of making these rare documents of electronic music available with previously unreleased material of the same period. In 2009, 8 lost tracks came out on ORAL. This CD contains MONOTON hard to find and unreleased tracks. It was also produced as two Limited Edition 10s : ORAL EP26, Four Lost Tracks and ORAL EP27, Ancient Futures. ORAL will complete this serie of reissue with the album MONOTONPRODUKT MCMLXXXIX. Remastered in 2009, the CD, MCMLXXXIX 20y++, contains two previously unreleased Mindmusic tracks from the same year that have been realized through scientific Brain Lab software.

The label has the honor to welcome in its ranks the one who could be compared to a centurion, the greatest in charge in the Roman Army. With more than a decade of experience behind him and which has dictated the aesthetic canons of a genre, Lykos Records presents Ness and his Ep "Memento".

In this sonic adventure @ness delves into the most hidden and dark ravines of memory. In a succession of allegorical scenes, dystopian premonitions and powerful evocative sounds "Memento", focuses his attention on memory and how much it’s fundamental, both as a psychic function of assimilation, as well as for processing data in order to learning.

The Ep opens with the track that gives the name to the work "Memento", which immediately wraps the listener with the deep bass sound and through a wise use of the pads and synths kidnaps his mind.
When body and mind have reached the perfect union, "Bionic Harp" comes into, breaking these balances, with the body undergoes through a pressing groove and the psyche intent on the perception of a harp melody, which echoing far away like a vague foggy memory.

The β side begins with a utopian and almost catastrophic vision that "System Failure" paints, through scratching and repetitive sounds, alarming and catapulting the listener into a dark and distressful nightmare. To conclude and restore calm in this comings and goings of dreams and memories, Deepbass's (@deepbass) adaptation of "Bionic Harp", which highlights the dreamlike atmospheres, creating a sound landscape rich of air and light.
