Am 15.09.2015 wurde KataHaifisch in Form einer Podcastreihe auf dem Portal SoundCloud ins Leben gerufen. Das Ziel war es eine Plattform für DJs und Newcomer zu schaffen. In den vergangenen 5 1/2 Jahren entwickelten sich doch sowohl die Träume, als auch Ziele und Pläne für KataHaifisch weiter. 
Das Team wurde größer und die zu bewältigenden Aufgaben mehr. Neben dem wöchentlichen (ehemals zweiwöchentlichen) Donnerstags Podcast fanden auch dutzende Premieren auf KataHaifisch ihren Platz. KataHaifisch Merchandise Kollektionen wurden konzipiert, produziert und anschließend auf der eigenen Webseite zum Kauf angeboten. Mitte Mai folgt dann auch das erste Release auf KataHaifisch als Record Label. Insgesamt bekommt Ihr 11 Tracks, auf einer Various Artist Compilation zu hören. 

Die Basis bleibt jedoch Hauptaugenmerk von KataHaifisch. Kernstück ist die Hörerschaft auf SoundCloud. Mittlerweile ist diese Community auf 20.000 Mitglieder herangewachsen. Jeder Einzelne von Euch hat uns auf unserem Weg begleitet und unterstützt. Wir möchten jedem Follower, Supporter, Partner oder auch zufälligem Hörer Danke sagen. Ohne Eure Loyalität und stetige Unterstützung wären wir nicht soweit gekommen.

Next up on the Mousai Mix Series, I introduce you to @amaretechno from Brussels, Belgium. 

Born with the rhythm in her veins, her parents sent her to ballet school as a toddler. From that day, she has been dancing every day of her life. First to classical music, later to jazz, rock ‘n roll, and as a teenager, she discovered electronic music.

Having studied the whole range of human sciences, Amare knows what people need – which makes her an excellent crowd reader and music selector. Being well-traveled, she was influenced by different cultures and music genres, which you can hear in her music selection. Amare's sound is best described as deep, melodic, sensuous, sassy, with an exotic hint, and a joyful touch. Music is her medium to spread love and connect people. ‘Amare’ is a Latin verb, ‘to love’, an active name that describes her striking energy with which she impresses the crowd everywhere she goes.

As the Christmas holidays approach, I hope you share this beautiful music with your favorite loved ones, as you gather around and close out the year. I Wish you all love and abunDANCE this holiday season.

“Melt Into Nothing” is Ensemble Economique’s most lucid seance to date. The prolific Humboldt County musician has stripped layers off of his trademark haze but retained the beautiful desolation that’s earned him a rabid fanbase. The solo project of former Starving Weirdos member Brian Pyle, Ensemble Economique has crossed a land bridge from apocryphal world music and dusty soundtracks to gauzy 4AD-style atmospherics. Trellises of guitar embolden Pyle’s whispered, threadbare lyrics. On “Hey Baby”, the itinerant tone feels like an update on Neil Young’s stark and beautiful soundtrack for Jarmusch’s “Dead Man”. “Melt Into Nothing”, like that beautiful film music, evokes the great American expanse.

Field recordings slip in and out of the mix. On “Fade for Miles”, Pyle’s adroit effects and backwards tape manipulation make the long trail on his vocals fade into waves on a rocky beach. Pyle combines minor-key organ and spacious string synths on “Never Gonna Die”, recalling the grey grace of the releases on Factory’s gothic cousin, Benelux. Thunder accentuates the dubbed-out machine drum programming as Pyle’s dulcet tenor floats in storm clouds. The full-length also features contributions from Toronto artist DenMother and Parisian artist Sophia Hamadi, also of dark-wave Opale. This music is not excessively dark or severe. Rather, the record explores the internal dialogue of solitary walks. “Melt Into Nothing” is for making sense of humanity in nature’s unforgiving face. Ensemble Economique has made his most accessible record yet, but the complex emotion behind these tracks remains resonant and ultimately mysterious.

In what is a momentous occasion for Soma Records, we hit the milestone 400th release of the label and who better to see this in than label heads SLAM as they lead up to their new album due to drop this October. Soma are proud to present the double A sided Rotary/Catacoustics. Slam have been locked away in the studio these past months working hard on their latest album which sees them look to past machines and new technologies to form the base of this new album. These album sessions have spawned two raucous tracks that state where the veteran producers are with their sound. These tracks have the dance floor firmly in mind and display the years of experience Slam have in knowing what exactly will whip up a storm.

Rotary opens the EP with a definite analogue rawness as a storming synth hook leads the track from the offset. Keeping it stripped back the boys allow the hook to bend and evolve over the course of the track, reminiscent of early Hood-esq minimalism. Straight up percussion backs the track and keeps the groove true to Techno.

Catacoustics takes things down a deeper route as low subs rumble while a nicely delayed bell tone reverberates gently in the background giving depth to the track. Strung out percussion flutters in the back as subtle time stretch is applied giving this a trippy and mind melting feel. Slam pull back on the reigns ever so slightly going into the break as yet more subtle builds give tension before firing back with the hypnotic feel essence of the track

Soma400 signals the start of the countdown to the latest Slam album and also shows why they have been in electronic music for over 20 years.

🗯🗯 How Did Corona change your artist life? 🗯🗯

Partly, probably similar to most artist. Instead of playing gigs, I play live streams  and
sometimes small (mostly open air ) events with Corona restrictions, which all feels pretty
strange. On the bright sight, the pressure is off and you got more time for other things.
I used the opportunity to take a little break from social media, be more in the studio and
to found a start up.

🗯🗯 Where did you record the mix and how did you feel? 🗯🗯

At home. Recording podcasts is actually the only thing that feels exactly the same as
before.

🗯🗯 What are your wishes for the time after Corona? 🗯🗯

Foremost, I hope the electronic scene will get through all this well. And of course I
hope, even though it doesn’t seem very likely, festivals and club events will be able to
take place without any major restrictions.

The sandy shores of southern India seem like an unlikely place for an electronic composer to meet a couple of sisters who play rootsy Americana with a political twist. But that's our lucky break. David Block, better known as The Human Experience, reunited with the sisters he met so many years ago, who have now found their way into every music magazine and public radio program of note over the past years, thanks to their part-roots, part-psychedelic, part-rural, and all-advocacy act, Rising Appalachia. While the two sonic projects seem nothing alike on the surface, the rare and raw blend is something wholly original and singular unto itself. Soul Visions is the new EP from The Human Experience and featuring the haunting vocal duet of sisters Chloe and Leah Smith. There is an evocative ease to the stirring pot of subsonic frequencies, plucked strings, and vast array of world percussion. Today's premiere, "Swoon," is an elegant ballad of intertwined lovers aching to please and satisfy and call in sick to stay in bed all day. We're pretty sure it's going to make you want to do the same damn thing. The album is out June 17th.
