On Moogho Art Melody shares his commentary with his unimitable technique, rapping and singing in both Mooré and Dioula, flowing freely in a current of hip hop, electro, blues, afrobeat, bass music and free jazz.

This deliberate juxtaposition of Burkinabè reality and global musicality sets Art Melody in the lineage of musical geniuses such as Afrika Bambaata, Archie Shepp, The Clash or Manu Dibango, who all blurred lines and embraced diverse influences and genres.

Moogho's powerful statement is in sharp contrast with the stringent and absurdly repressive immigration policies of our times, it stands against cultural segmentation and social segregation. Moogho is a universal dance, a global vibration hailing straight from the streets of Ouagadougou.

The Passage EP brings together two of the chief champions of far reaching sounds in AYBEE, and Lars Bartkuhn. Bartkuhn best known for his work with his iconic (NEEDS) imprint, and AYBEE for his boundary pushing ethos at (Deepblak). A project spawned of mutual love, and respect the two met at an impromptu jam performance at the Xjazz Fest where the seeds were planted for further collaboration. Committed to stretching out beyond tight parameters they sought to capture the spirit of the dance. As “The Astral Walkers” they set out to combine the fearless freedom of the Jazzfunk era with the endless possibilities within electronic music.

Many artists talk a good talk about being forward thinking, constantly evolving and pushing their personal boundaries, but few follow through on this like Armon Bazile. As Aybee, Bazile has put out record after record of deep, innovative house music that draws in influences from across the musical spectrum but that’s only part of the picture. He’s released under countless other monikers, held down one of the best labels in the business for over 15 years, and has managed to cross the divide to become an accomplished filmmaker as well. Having just teamed up for an excellent jazz funk excursion with legendary musician Lars Bartkhun I caught up for a chat with Aybee and we took in a fair bit of territory. We covered his chequered musical past, his creative process and how he’s translated his talents into filmmaking. Now Armon had a heavy cold when we were recording this, so extra props to him for soldiering through and still managing to come across eloquent, insightful and humorous in spite of all the coughing and sneezing.
