"The set ends with a track I made, built around words by Teig Sadhana about the vulnerability of men. It’s a subject that comes up often in my work as an applied psychologist, especially in conversations with boys and young men. Some carry unspoken thoughts - like feeling content with the idea of becoming a stay-at-home dad, or not pursuing traditional career ambitions. Sometimes about smaller subjects, like asking for help. Many describe pressure from society, or a lack of support from peers, when it comes to embracing less conventional paths.

I believe there’s a lot to gain, as a society, if men feel freer to speak about these thoughts. If being loved and respected is tied in the mind to career success, self-reliance and emotional toughness, it becomes difficult to let go of that framework. Historically, this mindset has been rewarded with status and security - but that doesn’t mean it’s something healthy for everyone to continue striving for.

We’re often comfortable talking about ambition, strength, and problem-solving - traits we’ve learned to view as charismatic or positive. But many of us were never taught how to speak openly about things that might be seen as weak or uncertain.

And yet, isn’t it one of the braver things - to show vulnerability in the face of discomfort or fear? Toughness can serve many purposes, but I think a more open and compassionate attitude among men toward vulnerability can help us become less protective of what’s been built in the world and in our minds, creating more space for everyone in society."

As a seasoned DJ, mental health counselor, and psychedelic guide, his work sits at the crossroads of music, healing, and expanded consciousness.

With over 30 years of experience exploring sound and psychedelics—from pioneering New York City’s early ’90s psytrance scene to cofounding the techno/house label Railyard Recordings—Matt eventually shifted his focus from nightlife to clinical psychology. Deep Breakfast 318 ~ Matt Xavier: Psilocybin Protocol 2 (The Shadow)

Today's guest mix arrives as the perfect soundtrack to these scorching summer days that seem to stretch on endlessly, capturing the vibrant energy and laid-back vibe of the season. We welcome Vakula, a leading figure in the Ukrainian electronic music scene.

The journey began in 1998, behind the decks of a local radio station, where Vakula played drum & bass and trip-hop sets for a handful of night listeners. By 2004, he was already diving into the deep waters of dub techno, drawn not by fashion, but by a persistent inner frequency.
Soon after, Vakula moved to the capital — a city now at war — where he spent eleven formative years. The original plan was simple: earn enough money to reach a Buddhist monastery in Tibet. But life, borders, and timing had other ideas. Instead, he stayed and followed sound.
Over the years, Vakula became part of the underground scene, eventually becoming a resident at iconic clubs such as Propaganda and Zeppelin, while also playing in many of the legendary venues of that era. By 2008, music had turned into a passport, taking him across continents to places where electronic sound truly thrived.
Genre was never a boundary. Jazz, rock, hip-hop, ambient, house, techno, drum & bass — everything served the same purpose: to explore, to feel, to connect. In 2011, he returned to his small hometown and built an analog studio, carving out space to listen more deeply.
Over time, the surface of the global scene began to feel thinner, less sacred. In 2020, he stepped back from performance and immersed himself in a three-year exploration of shamanic practices — not for spectacle, but for personal insight. This inner work changed his relationship with sound, and opened up new levels of depth, stillness, and presence in his music.
By 2025, Vakula let go of the path of the spirits, realizing that some stories are not his to walk. Vakula returned, not to where he started, but to a clearer understanding of his role: to keep listening, to keep creating, and to stay honest in sound.
Through it all, Vakula remains one of the early pioneers and enduring voices in the Ukrainian electronic scene — not the mainstream one, but a world of his own: where forest replaces the city center, where meadows stand in for mindless entertainment, and where trees are steadier than fleeting friendships. His connection to Ukraine has never been about slogans. It’s a quiet, unwavering love — for the land, for the people who still feel, and for his hometown of Konotop, which lives in every frequency he shapes.

As August begins, summer's golden days are still here, full of promise and hope. As we move into the peaceful months ahead, we're excited to welcome the talented Spanish artist Pablo Bolivar to our 320th episode in the series.

“A modern master of house and techno, Seven Villas founder Pablo Bolivar is know equally well as an album artist and prolific remixer, but perhaps foremost as a world class DJ. With artistic breadth and worldwide appeal, it is clear that Pablo was born to create music, always with an attitude, and always with quality as a standard.”
Boasting more than a decade of experience releasing music, Pablo Bolívar is a name familiar to most in the underground circuit of Dance music. Born in Santander, Spain, in 1981, he took his first steps into the music business by studying Sound Engineering at Barcelona’s Crash institute, then working as an engineer for a number of years following his graduation in 2000.
After a while, Pablo began working at one of Spain’s most recognised Electronic imprints, Decoder Muzique. Following this, in 2006 he released his debut LP via Barcelona label Regular, entitled ‘Anjanas’. The 11-track album showcased his melodic, hypnotic and intriguing style of Techno that has over the years become synonymous with his name, panning between ambient sections and tougher, more club-driven moments with a real maturity and understanding of music that only comes from studying the art at its core.
In 2009, Pablo released his critically acclaimed and personal favourite LP, ‘Recall’, also via Regular. The album saw him once again nod to past influences such as Heiko Laux and his Kanzleramt label as well as other German imprints such as Chain Reaction, but also was deeply inspired by the passing of his father.
Since then, the Spaniard has gone from strength to strength, with further releases on Curle Recordings, as well as on Desolat, Culprit, Einmusika, Moodmusic, Endless as well as via his own labels, Seven Villas and Avantroots, also remixing the likes of Gui Boratto, Mario Basanov, When Saints Go Machine, Gorge, Parov Stelar or Juana Molina to name a few.
Outside of music production, the gifted Spaniard has built up a reputation for his meticulously crafted DJ performances, combining his own mesmerising Techno cuts with records unearthed from his regular excursions crate digging as well as from other artists such as Floating Points, Soulphiction, I:Cube and Vakula – modern names that he is a big personal fan of.

Sebby Kowal is an American ambient & dub techno producer. He has been making ambient music since 2021 and dub techno since 2024. Sebby would describe his music as minimal with delicate textures and field recordings. He has been on a number of labels such as Rohs!/Lontano Series, Drift Deeper Recordings, Shimmering Moods Records, Atlantea Records, Florina Cassettes, Deep Electronics, Cold Tear Records and more.
Sebby believes when you create ambient and dub techno music, the possibilities are endless. In the future Sebby has a number of new projects coming up from mixes, compilations, Ep's and new albums.

We give a warm welcome to Sydney-based artist Trinity, taking center stage in our 323rd episode.

Trinity is a Sydney-based DJ, producer, and performer with over 20 years of experience in the music industry. Trinity has earned the respect and love of fans, dancers and peers from Sydney to Berlin — and many destinations in between. Her abundant and diverse talents, her famous work ethic, and her uncompromising musical vision have made her a force to be reckoned with in the world of techno.
Trinity was billed alongside Richie Hawtin at the Vivid Sydney festival at Sydney Opera House; headlined Sydney’s world-famous Mardi Gras celebration; and has played at Tresor, Tomorrowland and many other clubs and festivals across Europe. Other stops on her musical travels have included New Zealand, India and Amsterdam’s famed Red Light Radio.
Each of Trinity’s live shows is marked by her unique versatility: from deep dub-techno, acid and electro to peaktime techno — all combining for a distinct and moving soundscape. Trinity is also one-half of boundary-breaking live act Phax Machine (along with partner Analogue Resistance), with the duo focusing especially on tougher breakbeat and classic rave sounds. 
Trinity’s recorded output includes collaborations with Luke Hess, Eric Cloutier, Headless Horseman and XDB, with her releases making their way into some of the best record shops in the world including Berlin’s Hard Wax. Trinity also runs A&R for Australian techno label Nightime Drama.

As summer's warmth dissolves into twilight, grey clouds gather on the horizon, bearing the whispers of rain and the pine forest's scent yields to the caress of a fresh breeze. We are delighted to unveil Estimulo's latest mix for Deep Breakfast Series, a sonic journey to envelop your senses.

Estimulo is an avid record digger and die-hard music aficionado with extensive vaults of records since the late 80s. In his club DJ sets he’s on the lookout for those special moments of dancefloor salvation, oscillating between Deep House and Techno’s classics and more obscure electronic treasures, with splashes of Electro & Disco / Funk and with an extended broad perspective on genres and epochs not forgetting recent and upcoming gems. It’s not purely a retrofuturistic thing, rather he strives to connect music of different epochs to form a holistic flow. His special passion is to make his own edits / versions of the music he loves. With his label Mixomat Recordings (founded in 2004) he has been putting out early releases by artists such as
Marco Nega, immer.Chic (Workshop), Rezkar (Running Back, Meakusma) and Serendipity/Rai Scott (Inner Shift Music / 2DeepSoul).
His weekly Radio Show (EstimuloShow @ mixomat.org since 2007, also on Cashmere Radio since 2017) is regarded as a mainstay by many in the scene.
The last years have seen Estimulo taking the vibe to places like the US, Chile, Argentina, Australia, UK, France, Canada, Norway, Poland, Ukraine and Jordan on his DJ tours.
Estimulo used to co-run the futura event agency and DJ crew, that has been causing some stir in the Berlin scene with their proceedings in beloved underground spots like ://about blank, Paloma, Horst and Chez Jacki/Maria am Ostbahnhof.

"It's like a sequence of childhood memories. You close your eyes and remember science fiction films with the infinite universe and thousands of stars, a summer beach with your parents and siblings, then a spaceship with robots running around excitedly and making beeping noises. A few minutes later, you're beamed back to Earth and standing on the top of a mountain, gazing down into the wide valley, then a long walk through the forest along a mountain river. Or you hear the large church organ. In the end, it's all about aural beauty. I invite this music to give me and all listeners goosebumps. Nostalgia is only part of the equation here; i reckon timelessness is even more important. I hope you enjoy the journey through my memories and moods."

"This hybrid mix drifts through layers of sound that feel like half-remembered dreams and moments suspended between past and present. Skander Jaïbi is a Tunisian and Dutch composer, audiovisual artist, curator, and science educator. He holds a Masters degree in the philosophy of physics is one of the founders of Uncloud festival. His medium of choice is often sound. His works range from a strong focus on the use of field recordings and archival material to creating compositions that may or may not integrate such recordings.

"This sonic journey meanders between music with voice as a central element, heavily layered ambient worlds, and more direct compositions that feel otherworldly. A big part of the selection comes from albums I've been listening to often and attentively this year. We're thrilled to welcome Joseph Valentino aka Neglect as our special guest this last weekend of October. Get ready for a sonic journey that swings from energetic highs to moody lows, a mix that takes you on a ride through different vibes.

Neglect is a southern california born, southern arizona based visual artist and musician whose ambient compositions focus on the sparse terrain of living in the desert and how sound translates an environment of wide spaces and harsh extremes. He has been recording and releasing music since 2005 and started mixing records in 1995. His work has appeared on the labels Boomarm Nation, Harmonic Ooze, Adventurous Music, and Shimmering Moods, aside from his own
digital imprint, Neglectsound.

About the mix he said:
"I think of a mix like creating a photo album, a collection of moments in time. Where i was when i heard this song, what year it was, the sense of a season
when i recorded the music, what was happening at that time in my life? Everything begins with one track and then the map starts to take shape. For this episode in particular, it was the sense of spirit in the Millsart track ' Yantra.' I can remember where i was living and the mood of the time when i bought this record in a shop, a feeling of that i can only describe as ancient hope, a timeless desire for discovery. For Deep Breakfast 334, we're pleased to welcome Saphileaum, a truly stellar all-round talent whose work we've been following with great interest. It's a fit that's been a long time coming, and we're thrilled to finally make it happen.

Andro Gogibedashvili, aka Saphileaum, is a Georgian producer and multidisciplinary artist renowned for crafting unique soundscapes that blend rhythm, live drumming, and atmospheric techno. Inspired by mysticism, earth, and the universe, his music is perfect for meditation, introspection, and coming together. With a background in a creatively rich family, Saphileaum's artistic path is shaped by his heritage and traditions. His discography spans top labels like Mule Musiq, Good Morning Tapes, and Silent Season, with each release reflecting his creative approach. Notably, his music was transmitted to space in 2022, making him one of the few artists to reach beyond Earth. Saphileaum's artistry extends to film soundtracks, art exhibitions, and poetry, showcasing his versatility. His approach to music and art invites listeners to tune in deeply, exploring new terrain of culture, sound, and inspiration.

Hailing from Taiwan, Shi Ting Chen is a multifaceted artist whose work moves fluidly between DJing, sound research, and community-driven cultural projects. With a background shaped by underground club culture and an ongoing commitment to collective practices, she approaches music as both a craft and a form of dialogue. Active as a DJ, producer, and organiser, she collaborates with forward-thinking crews and grassroots initiatives dedicated to building safer, more inclusive, and politically aware dancefloors. Her artistic vision draws from social movements, urban environments, and the emotional dynamics of shared spaces, allowing her to craft performances that resonate on both sonic and human levels. Musically, her signature lies in a refined sense of texture, an instinct for narrative progression, and the ability to blend intricate rhythms with atmospheric depth. Whether navigating hypnotic techno, broken patterns, or slow-burning experimental forms, she shapes each set as an evolving story, meticulously constructed yet always alive and responsive to the moment. As winter approaches and daylight slips away a little earlier each day, the comfort of staying indoors with something warm to sip and music gently filling the room becomes especially appealing. For this round, we’re featuring a guest mix by Sebastiano Effe — a selection that radiates a calm, inviting warmth.

Self-taught multi-instrumentalist. After several musical projects over the course of 35 years, "The Barrier Of Solitude" (Seven Villas, 2020) was his first solo album released under his own name. Effe usually draws inspiration from facts and situations that are not strictly related to music (books, movies, places, people, life and art in general etc - you get it) although he greatly appreciates the work of Brian Eno, William Basinski, Lawrence English, Taylor Deupree, Tim Hecker and many others in the field of the so-called ambient music (or drone music, or experimental music, or musique concrète, or whatever it is). Time, memory, what is real and what is perceived and the silent zones in between are all fascinating themes for Effe to explore through his sonic architectures, but it's better to leave an in-depth reasoning about this creative process and focus instead on the simple act of listening to his music and making up your own mind. "They, Whom The Gods Want To Destroy" (Seven Villas, 2024) and "Planeshifter" (Seven Villas, 2025) are his second and third albums respectively. Endless gratitude for your listening and support.

For the 341st chapter of the Deep Breakfast Series, and the final release of the year, we’re truly delighted to welcome the one and only bvdub, presenting one of his rare DJ sets.

When Brock sent this over, we couldn’t have known how deeply it would resonate. Just under two hours long, it unfolds as a reflective journey: patient, quietly powerful, and emotionally distant in all the right ways.
This mix is rare not only for its depth, but also because Brock creates only when the moment and inspiration align perfectly. It’s not about assembling tracks; it’s about being in the right mental and emotional space, fully committing to the journey. That’s what makes this set feel so precious and unique.

Thank you to everyone who listened throughout the year, who reached out with kind words, left comments, and helped keep this space alive and connected. And thank you to the artists who continue to trust this series with their work and energy. It truly means everything.

Deep Breakfast 341 ~ bvdub

The first Deep Breakfast episode of 2026 comes in the form of a live set by Spanish artist Javier Marimon, inviting listeners straight into his deeply personal sonic universe.
A singular storyteller, Javier moves freely across sound and form, shaping music that has found a home on labels such as Crescent London, Kizen, Huinali, Accents, Oslated, Secuencias Temporales, as well as on his own imprint, Off Tangent. His work has been heard and experienced at gatherings like Mostra, Perpendicular, La Nature, and La vallée électrique, where his live performances unfold with an unmistakable sense of presence.
Beyond music, his creative practice extends into visual art, sketches, and sculptural forms, all sharing the same open-ended, tactile approach. There is always an invitation embedded in his work: to listen actively, to imagine, to complete what is only suggested. His sound feels alive, curious, and intentionally imperfect, encouraging participation rather than passive observation.

Looking back at the process that brought this session to life, Javier shares:
"Last year i was lucky to experience japanese countryside for a few months on the beautiful village of Ichinose in Fujieda, surrounded by bamboo, tea, the river and an incredible community I also felt a little shift on my music making processes, (and life in general too). More lo-tech, more direct and less midi-ed.
This unfolded as a new name, A Ras, in Spanish it's understood as being really close to the floor, at the same surface height or just barely touching an object.
Mainly granular beats and deep dubby patterns, some tracks with this aka will see the light through this year in different platforms.
When I was back in Spain I used the new sounds with the old setup so it still sounds Marimon rather than something new. This recording is a collection of sampler-fed drum machine action, free hand rhythms and a mild changing aesthetic that I’ll keep exploring further."
