Keeping things minimalistic, Robert has a very deep, calm yet lively sound that sometimes reminds us of some Cabaret Voltaire/Richard H. História do Broken Beat

The Broken Beat surge em Londres no final dos anos 1990 . Os grandes pioneiros do gênero são o produtor-compositor IG Culture, a dupla 4hero (Dego & Marc Mac) com seu álbum Two Pages , que terá um grande impacto, Bugz in The Attic , Neon Phusion, Afronaut, Seiji… Este musical O estilo estende a tendência já presente em uma certa cena da selva de misturar instrumentos ao vivo com máquinas. O gênero, tendo surgido na área de West London, onde o selo Goya e muitos artistas se estabeleceram, é geralmente rotulado de "West London" .

Entre as principais influências de Broken Beat podem ser identificadas: o funk de tendência de jazz fusion dos anos 1970 (Headhunters, Lonnie Liston Smith, Mizell Brothers e Donald Byrd), alguns quebras de jazz dos anos 1960 , 1970 ou peças de funk do início de 1980 . Afronaught prefere falar de "música negra progressiva" e Bembe Segue, letrista e grande cantor do movimento, prefere o termo "jazz cósmico" . Entre os principais artistas do gênero estão IG Culture, Dego (4Hero), Afronauta, Seiji, Daz I Kue, Domu, Bugz no Sótão , Mark de Clive Lowe, Kaidi Tatham, Alex Attias, Opolopo, Zed Bias e Somatik. As gravadoras Goya, People e Bitasweet Mainsqueeze apoiaram-se fortemente no desenvolvimento do gênero e nas famosas Sessões Cooperativas noturnas que todos os domingos eram o encontro e a principal vitrine do movimento, no bairro de Shoreditch, em Londres. Protegidos pelo clube Plastic People, cuja aparelhagem Funktion One era considerada uma das melhores do mundo, essas noites que se tornaram lendárias foram um laboratório, onde DJs produtores lançavam suas produções mal saídos do estúdio. Eles também eram uma missa, a comunidade do Broken Beat se encontrando ali todas as semanas, sabendo que estavam vivenciando algo excepcional. As noites cooperativas voltam à vida - após anos de hiato - hoje nos hospícios Boiler Room, uma vez por ano.

A idade de ouro do Broken Beat durou até cerca de 2007. Seu maior sucesso comercial era "Hold it Down" remix 4hero por Bugz no sótão e "Booty La La" mesmo Bugz In The Attic , que chegou a 44 º lugar das vendas no Reino Unido em Janeiro de 2005. Commercial avanços fora de qualquer proporção para a criatividade do gênero e seu impacto em outros palcos, com os ritmos quebrados passando a fazer parte da paisagem, inclusive o pop, sem que o gênero em si seja conhecido fora de uma minoria de insiders. Depois de uma desaceleração muito clara na produção a partir de 2007, muitos concluem que o gênero está morto. Mas alguns artistas importantes como IG Culture, Dego, Kaidi Tatham continuam a cavar seus sulcos (Dego refuta o rótulo Broken Beat para suas produções por anos), e uma nova geração de artistas está ajudando a manter viva a chama de um movimento. cena é na verdade uma verdadeira família musical.

The Jazzre: noites frescas , todas as quintas-feiras à noite no Mau Mau da Portobello Road, reúnem uma parte dessa cena toda semana, e produzem shows de Jazz com a jovem geração londrina muito influenciada pelo gênero.
