The next label to feature in the SB guest mix series requires little to no introduction. Minted 25 years ago by high school friends, Jamie 'Jimpster' Odell and Tom Roberts, and having amassed a mighty 412 releases (listed on discogs anyway) we welcome Freerange Records to the fold. 

With a discography as deep as the music therein, Freerange member, Conrad Lee has elected to "dig through the lesser explored corners of the back-catalogue, picking out tracks that still feel relevant today and pairing them with some, but not all, of my favourite releases from my time from starting as an intern up until now. So expect tracks from Jimpster, Shur-i-kan, Crackazat, Ewan Jansen and Ron Trent among others."

"222 Minutes". This is my first set this year. It was recorded live at "Cranes" where I work since I moved from New York to Washington DC a few months ago. This compilation contains Rare Groove, Jazz, Modern Soul, Funk, Disco, Gospel, House, Broken Beat, RnB. 

Sad but I am missing the Winter Jazz Festival in New York this week. The first tune (and the whole set) is inspired by Gilles Peterson. This photo was taken in January last year during the WJF 2023. We made a quick visit to one of the record shops between the shows and GP made a quick gift - he bought me this great record released by Jackie Paris in 1981 featuring amazing Stevie Wonder's "Summer Soft" cover which I've never heard before (Thank you Gilles!) Shout out and thanks to my friend Frederic Beneix for a few discoveries I made recently - University Of Miami Concert Jazz Band, Sonny Stitt and Yusef Lateef records. Sabo's record label, Sol Selectas, presents an organic house EP by Rameff that has Middle Eastern melodies and indie dance influences.

Rameff is a French artist living in Mexico, and he is back on Sol Selectas with his first solo EP on the imprint, after recently featuring a collaborative track on the 2025 edition of the annual Summer Sol compilation.

Utilising his background of being a percussionist and classically trained piano player, Rameff has applied his musicianship to electronic music. His tracks are a rich tapestry of sonic textures, and he combines organic sounds with synthesisers to create spellbinding grooves that are perfect for a dance floor.

Other record labels to feature Rameff's music include the likes of Baikal Nomads, Lump Records, • kosa •, Moblack Records, and Cosmic Awakenings. He is also a skilled DJ who plays hybrid sets combining live musicianship with expert track selection and the seamless blending of other people's music.

"Kasbah Fever" is the EP's title track, and it combines a chugging disco groove with Arabic melodies, Middle Eastern flutes, and a trippy vocal sample.

Next up, "Luxor Madness" layers a lurching bass synth with funky guitar chords and trippy vocal textures to create an upbeat groove with hallucinatory vibes.

"Goddess of Euphoria" has fluttering melodies inspired by Egyptian folk law, layering them with warped trumpet stabs, organ bursts, and mesmerising female vocals that have ceremonial undertones.
