Jaye Ward, what a bloody legend!

In the sometimes insipid, fickle and murky waters of the dance world not many have navigated its depths with the wisdom, style and sophistication that Jaye Ward has. A force of nature who’s been wielding the acid, since acid began, Jaye still embodies the raw spirit of UK club culture – screaming into the void and moving bodies.

For three decades, she’s been keeping it real in the sweaty backrooms of Stoke-on-Trent’s Golden to the hallowed halls of fabric. Her path weaves through the history of British dance music like a rebel’s tale – from squat parties to Sabresonic, from The End to Turnmills, from Homobloc and Dalston Superstore to Field Maneuvers…and maybe somewhere else this summer that we might have a little hand in.

Jaye, like the best of these humans walking this rather odd planet, is a restless spirit and this mix she’s done for us is a fucking belter that reflects that.  It’s an examination of Jaye’s unwavering devotion to the weird and wonderful corners of dance music.

Flying away from the Typhoon Kong-rey with the last plane from Shanghai, arriving straight to Miki Abe, his inaugural wonderful Picnic People Panic to the DJ booth at Womb Tokyo to take over from the superb Alien Sex Friends.

Here is the live recording.

Ryosuke Tsuchiya, who also served as PA, mastered this mix. He used a unique approach, including IR reverb, to simulate the environment of the day with an immersive feel.
WOMB is a club with a very high ceiling and wooden floor. The subwoofer, with its large horn, gives the kick a rich ambience.

Now Portland-based, Screendoor (@screendoor) began DJing in Milwaukee in 1996, cutting his teeth on the Midwest rave circuit in Chicago, Minneapolis, Madison, etc; A veteran practitioner with a DIY sound system sensibility, and the versatility to broadcast for a range of atmospheres, venues, crowds, and moments. Now focused on the Disposable Commodities label (@disposablecommodities), and gigging as time allows alongside PDX staple crews Faceless, Spend the Night, Believe You Me, and ODYSSEY.

Deep Club Podcast #26: Dj Screendoor

Deep Club is a record label, collective, series of parties, and devotion to American dance music that stretches from Denver, Colorado to Brooklyn, NY. Initiated in 2013 by a committed group of midwestern-raised DJs, Deep Club has cultivated a space in which developed and new forms of house and techno can be shared with the greater community. By marrying their club-level sound system with a DIY ethos, they present a focused vision and experience around their events. Over the last ten years Deep Club has hosted acclaimed talent like Marcellus Pittman, The Black Madonna, and Mike Huckaby at their dance-until-sunrise parties. A string of colorful and well-curated 12-inch vinyl releases and DJ mixes marks the outward and continuous growth of the Deep Club label concept.​ In 2021 a new chapter, Jewel, was carefully designed and executed in Brooklyn. Jewel aims to merge elements of American audiophilia with Midwestern and East Coast dance music roots.
