Originally hailing from Upstate NY, DeepCutta began his foray into DJ culture as a vinyl drum ‘n’ bass connoisseur back in 1997. His love for collecting vinyl quickly gave way to spinning vinyl and immediately revealed an innate talent for mixing and selecting records. Since those early days of spinning dnb, Cutta’s sound has evolved and aligned with the dark, percussive techno-house sound often heard deep within the afterhours. It was long, blissful nights and mornings spent dancing in famed NYC clubs such as Exit, Crobar, Sound Factory and Pacha that set the stage for DeepCutta’s metamorphoses into techno from jungle/drum ‘n’ bass. The NYC underground house & techno scene has continued to be a major component in DeepCutta’s sound signature and is the driving force behind his #NOSOFTBEATS trademark sound. #NOSOFTBEATS can be described as the musical intersection between dark, crunching techno beats and tribal percussion, juxtaposed with urban and soulful house sensibilities. DeepCutta is not afraid to take it deep, mechanical and atmospheric, yet twist it with funky/soulful or sexy/seductive vocals and textures. To achieve this end, unique use of custom made song edits have been the hallmark of DeepCutta’s infectious and methodically programmed sets. DeepCutta has showcased his #NOSOFTBEATS philosophy at various nightclubs and residencies in his current city, Washington, DC, sharing the decks with international music talents such as Boris, Oscar G, Guy Gerber and Victor Calderone. DeepCutta is also the founder of DC’s largest underground techno boat party aptly dubbed “TechnOceans” which has been running for four years strong. I was brought up on Motown. Then I moved to England 25 years ago. Began that journey with Orbital, Hawkwind and The Day to Day. I started going to Planet Angel, Whirly Gig, and fell in love with breakbeat after visiting the Fats Bar in Camden in 2000. My birthday is on Notting Hill Carnival. Ive been very lucky to have some excellent DJs and lovers of music throughout my life who have given me a wondrous appreciation of music, including punk and and indie.
