Sub wielding sorcerers and global bossmen Truth are back on DDD with the otherworldly mini-EP, Woden, one that is as powerful and devastating as it is mystical and ethereal. Set for release the day of DDD’s groundbreaking takeover at Denver’s Mission Ballroom - across the three tracks, New Zealand’s bass wizards take you on a mythical journey from the sublime to the ridiculous - pushing the fabric of dubstep’s possibilities, before reality sets back in with a bang.  Working with long-time collaborator, Lelijveld, EP opener Empty is a sublime piece of melancholic beauty that doesn’t hold back when the drops flex - with stunning vocal refrains making way for savage synth lines across triplet percussive patterns. Next comes the eponymous Woden, the powerful norse god and ‘leader of the possessed’. Hellbent on soundsystem destruction, the heavy wubs return with devastating effect to fire off at any being in range.  EP closer Narwhal is as cold as the toothed whale’s arctic ocean habitat - as delayed snares fire off like the disintegrating ice it passes as it migrates to warmer climes, with trippy arpeggios accompanying the threatening low frequencies.  Woden’s Day has a new date. 13th September.

TRUTH has always lived and breathed music that is deeper, darker and dangerouser but we could never have dreamed of where the imprint is at now, through pure passion for and dedication to sound system culture.

What started as monthly Monday night in a 100 person capacity San Francisco basement in 2012, leading to our first release in November 2014 - Deep, Dark & Dangerous takes huge pride in representing the best of dubstep, 140 and bass music in a catalogue approaching 140 releases.

This celebration compilation of DDD’s first decade as an imprint is all about looking forward.

Through an epic double album of original tracks, this is the cream of the crop - featuring our favourite big hitters and some of the hottest young talent in the underground.

Decade showcases the best of where we’re at but also what the future holds for the scene we call home.

MR010 spins what we’ve perceived as noRecall’s continued electronic ode to grime and hip hop. Islay begins with a truly blended lead-out piece called Grid Failure. The track evolves around punchy grime drums and sonic swing, creating an environment where function meets form and form meets function. The project moves forward with Inhalation’s commanding choral intro, a rather fitting lead that both juxtaposes and highlights sub-smashing frequencies. Inhalation’s stepping patterns take us through multiple switch-ups and variations, a common denominator for this ever-morphing EP.

Moving to the third track, listeners are met with hybrid dancehall that is somehow (and rather spectacularly) entangled with nostalgic 8-bit crush. Islay’s (this time the track, not the EP) introduction serves as a crowd breather before the ensuing onslaught of patterning and low-end weight. It’s clear how much time went into its composition… a labor of love that offers many class ear catching elements.

And now, to guess which direction the remix would take would’ve been futile! All we knew was that whatever came next was at the mercy of Maude Vôs… and wowie, what a delivery. Maude Vos’ remix depicts something expertly large and immersive, something that requires much more than the dBs produced by my little Renault Clio. This track feels like an audio depiction of the rain cycle, with sonics heated into the atmosphere only to fall back over your head. A fitting curtain call for this project.
