Following swiftly on from Step-A-Side's 'Hollow' EP, Instigate returns in September showcasing a brand new selection of sounds constructed by the Sicilian based, tech orientated beat-smith Murk.

With prior releases on legendary underground labels such as Subaltern Records and Tuba under his belt, Murk has been steadily building his reputation over the last couple years through a string of high profile collaborations and remixes. Now delving into his debut solo release with the Consciousness EP, Murk supplies a techno inspired three track exploring complex rhythmic arrangements and the relationships between these patterns and the intense sub grooves surrounding them. 

Kicking off proceedings Murk opens the EP with the title track, 'Consciousness'. Tense pads laid over a steady high hat set the tone for the intro before the techy feels come in full effect at the drop. Fast paced rhythms interspersed with the purposeful resonant bass tones form the basis for the unwavering progression as the track builds up to completion. 'VeXt' steps up with an unparalleled air of tension. Atmosphere is the name of the game with this one as Murk pushes the production ever forward with tech bass arpeggios and a triplet based kick pattern. Snare delays add elements of dub effect merging influences to create an amalgam of styles resulting in a true dance floor weapon. The closing track of the EP, 'Vortex', follows a more traditional 140 blueprint in it's drum stylings. Incorporating trap percussion Murk succeeds in mixing things up leaving his own unique stamp on the sound. Never one to shy away from experimentation in synthesis some interesting textures have been concocted here bringing in a strong degree of variance complementing the repetition of the bass line. 

As an added bonus for the supporters of the Instigate and Murk we've arranged two online bonus tracks. 'Infectious' will be circulating as an INSTiFREE release ahead of the EP and 'Primal' will be a FKOF free download continuing our long-standing cooperation with the colossal FatKidOnFire blog.

Each project will feature a sample pack from a different prouder. This session we have the don Leon Switch on board with a very Deep, Dark and Dangerous flavored pack. We look up to Leon as one of the most influential producers on the underground dubstep sound.

We want producers out there to download the samples and get to work creating beats. At the end of the session, we'll compile the most interesting results into a mix. And release the dopest beats for free via Deep, Dark & Dangerous.

This is NOT a competition, it's a chance to interact and collaborate with other producers of the Deep, Dark & Dangerous persuasion. It's all about stimulating creativity, getting people involved and inspired. Because the end product is a mix, tracks don't necessarily need to be fully laid out, an intro leading to a sick drop concept could be just as powerful as a 5 minute long masterpiece. Just get in there and get your hands dirty, the more interesting and original the better!

This is the starting point, to get the creativity flowing. Get to work on some beats, see where the inspiration takes you. Don't limit yourself to these samples, but submissions must contain a few of these, especially the musical elements. We want to see how you interpret the source material and add your own twist.
