If you have been on the third Moonshine Beach last summer you are probably familiar with @conrad-nowak and @minakofficial. They were playing for the last two hours of the night, just before the first rays of the waking sun emerged on the horizon. The mystical atmosphere they created was the perfect soundtrack for the transition from night to day. It left an everlasting imprint on our memories and we are certain that it will not be different on the tenth episode of Secret Society Sessions. The transition will be from day to night this time and the location will be a friendly bar instead of a Secret Beach, but these guys proved themselves to the Toronto crowd countless times and they are preparing to bring you something special for our Radio Show / Social Collective.

Secret Society Sessions is a show broadcasted every Wednesday 6-9pm live from Girth Radio. The studio is conveniently nestled inside an aesthetic bar just one block east of St. Lawrence Market, Pacific Junction Hotel​ (234 King Street East).

This is more than a radio show… it is a social collective for people at play. We invite you for after work drinks, food and games – Pacific Junction Hotel features many amenities including Locally Brewed Beer, an Outdoor Patio, Table Tennis, Pool, Foosball, Arcade Classics and the only real Ice Hockey table in the city!

Our goal is to provide the atmosphere for a regular gathering that revolves around our love for music and the celebration of getting over the hump of the week. Come early, spend a few hours with your friends listening to artistically curated sounds and go home happy, proving that a night out does not necessarily have to be followed by a day in.

Secret Society Sessions Episode 010 - Conrad & Mina

In his earlier years Conrad’s musical preference was strictly classic 90’s hip-hop. The rolling 808 drums and melodic current became the stepping-stone for his conception, comprehension, and more importantly passion for electronic music. He emerged from Toronto’s underground house scene in 2011, branding himself with a refreshing deep tech resonance that was easily distinguishable in a flooded city of sounds. In January 2014, Conrad had the honour of being added to the artists of The BPM Festival in Playa Del Carmen, Mexico. Shortly after that he released his debut EP titled ‘Discrimination’ on Yoruba Grooves, which topped off at #3 on Beatport’s Minimal Top 100 Releases. Jump ahead to 2016 and his versatile DJ sets have continued to impress on a plethora of stages ranging from beach parties to after hour nightclubs. During this time he has been humbled to have the opportunity to perform alongside artists he has long been inspired by such as tINI, Davide Squilace, Martin Buttrich, Tale Of Us, Dubfire and Patrick Topping. With a mind flowing with inspiration he continues to focus on production while always on the pursuit of melodious excellence.

A musician from an early age and an accomplished DJ, Sebastien Del Mundo loves to experiment. No matter where and when the dance floor is at—from the cold heart of Berlin to the sunny Parisian summer—he always brings people together with his dark melodic tracks creating a sensual atmosphere. After playing several Toronto favourite parties like Architextures or recently Cherry Beach, he will debut at Secret Society Sessions, spreading music and love to the community he cares so much for.

Maga, the highly prolific DJ & producer from France, returns to Audiofly’s Supernature imprint with a new single, pairing up two delicious new tracks, and backed with a remix from Unders & Camiel Daamen.
Always pushing his own limits when it comes to his musical prowess, Maga favours a fusion of melodic, minimal and strong energies, as can be heard on previous releases and remixes for Get Physical, The Gardens Of Babylon, and Flying Circus Recordings.
‘The Trap’, with its breezy, mystical melodies, and considered tempo, is a seductive affair. Deft percussion and a soft kick drum keep a warm atmosphere, whilst the ‘stop/start’ interplay keeps the mood playful.

Skynet and Fekky return to Nahawand with the aptly titled track 'A Night in Mars.'
The song is a bit quirky but does so in a way that avoids being "gimmicky"
The track which prominently features an electric guitar, and masterfully crafts blending modern production
with classic Trance elements.
'A Night in Mars' is comprised of strong driving acids, alluring bass-lines, lush synth-layers that seem very
otherworldly. Skynet and Fekky certainly have created a track that is both high in quality, and intriguing to listen to.
The song is as interesting as it's title would suggest.

We look forward to the artists description once it is translated from German... Thank you Deep. This mix starts almost in a folky vein but at 45 minutes really gets into it's groove. You will absolutely be captivated but the sheer talent and imagination that is H.K.

INTERVIEW

Where do you draw your inspiration from?
"Daily life impressions, emotions, atmospheres and places around the world. Also a night out listening to impressive dj’s brings me a lot, which is not much happening at the moment with the current situation of the clubs being closed and I recognized I miss a lot of inspiration from that. But it's interesting that I'm forced to find other sources to get inspiration from. For example I love visual arts and paintings, which I can use to get inspiration from. Also I visit a lot of abandoned places for my events which are all different and have different atmospheres, this gives me a lot of ideas as well. Besides that, I can also get very inspired by simply starting jamming in the studio without any clear goal."

How do you stay focussed in a world of constant distraction?
"I take time to plan in a few days where I only work on music and do nothing else. I am quite quickly distracted, impulsive and all over the place mostly. So I need to have my working place and be able to close myself off."

Do you have a morning routine?
"Not at all, I'm a night person so mostly I start my day after morning."

What fascinates you about your art?
"Several things. It’s a nice feeling to create something out of nothing and I love the way I can travel in my own mind and thoughts through sound. I can listen and work for hours on music and get through different thoughts, feelings and emotions. This works as a sort of meditation which is needed for me. The social way music connects is very fascinating as well. Meeting so many people at different places which I get connected with by sharing the same art, doing projects and learning from each other. And keeping to learn producing music is never ending. There is so much you can create and discover, you can go as far as you want which never gets boring."

What for you is the purpose of art?
"Expression, for me it’s all an expression of life."
