Definitive Recordings is thrilled to announce the release of “Certainly Close”, a fresh two-track EP from UK artists The S.O.S. and Simkid. Following their success with “Hot Juno” on METAPHYSICAL, this release highlights their ability to merge classic house aesthetics with a modern, soulful touch.

The S.O.S., with roots in London and East Africa, has built a career as a DJ, vocalist, and producer blending diverse house styles. From co-founding the Illustrated Minds collective to working with global brands like Tom Ford and MTV, he is a creative force uniting community-driven music with dancefloor energy. Simkid, raised in the 80s and deeply influenced by soul, funk, and the French electronic scene, is a London-based producer with releases on labels like KMS, and Peppermint Jam. Known for his elegant soundscapes and dynamic DJ sets, Simkid continues to innovate, with tracks like “Young World” still resonating on Defected Records playlists.

The title track, “Certainly Close”, pairs an old-school house bassline with jazzy Rhodes chords and alternating sung and rapped vocals repeating the phrase “you’re oh so close to me,” creating a captivating and intimate vibe. The second track, “Make You Mine,” offers a softer, deep house feel, with sweet vocal lines, lush chords, and a playful percussion break. Together, the tracks balance timeless house elements with a contemporary touch, making this EP a must-listen for fans of soulful and sophisticated house music.

A respected name in South Africa's underground, Tonick has earned praise from tastemakers like BBC Radio 1's Benji B, with standout releases including "Low Rider" and the Seasons EP.

Curated by Kid Fonque, the Stay True Sounds compilation series has become a cornerstone of the label - an annual showcase designed to champion fresh, up-and-coming talent from across South Africa. Stay True Sounds Vol. 7 drops 29 August - another expertly curated compilation from label boss Kid Fonque, continuing his mission to document and showcase the label’s uncompromising vision; elevating the most exciting artists in South African electronic and house music.
Leading the rollout, Thabo Tonick delivers “Nika” - a slow-burn house heater layered in tension and flow - while Graham Deep makes his debut on the label with “Rabbit’s Foot”, a patient, atmospheric standout that’s already turning heads.

But the depth doesn’t stop there. Pando G comes through with “Analog Machines”, a raw, synth-heavy trip built on texture and grit. It’s one of the compilation’s most distinctive moments - unapologetically minimal, deeply musical. The kind of track that rewards repeat listens or gets dropped in a tech house set at 2am.

Another highlight is beatsbyhand’s “Aphotic Zone” - a haunting, immersive track that pushes deep house into darker waters. With its low-end weight and shadowy tone, it captures the late-night energy that defines the Stay True sound.
