Tomoki Tamura's Holic Trax label has long been renowned as a canny exporter of clued in house and techno. Their latest continues in this regard, as Tamura again calls on a series of renowned label friends to bring the heat. With names such as Mr.G, Satoshi Tommie and Tuccillo all appearing it here alongside Tamura himself, it's no surprise that this 3 x vinyl record, celebrating 5 years of the label, is filled with drama and high points throughout.
This is immediately obvious from Mr.G's "Soba Shioyaki". Titled in homage to the label's Japanese heritage, it's a dark and dexterous workout that marks another high point in a career filled with big records. Deep but tough, it's a perfect of why the tech house master is so revered in underground circles. G's "Komorebi" puts a tough emphasis on the drums, as well as a weaving, subtle baseline that adds a further dynamic to his work here. 
HT24 comes from Satoshi Tommiie & Tuccillo, two producers whose sounds are perfectly suited to Holic's output. Their four-track contribution starts with "Do It", a spiky catchy number that's exciting from the off. "What Row" sees the boys inject some added funk into the equation, before "To Ray" ups the intensity with a raw, pulverising aesthetic that takes no prisoners. Wrapping up their side of the bargain is the digital only "You Know", a real bumper of a track with Chicago-inspired synth stabs that help bring it to higher planes.
It's the left to Tamura himself to close the offering via HT25. A1, the appropriately named "5ive Years' is a techno workout of the type that's notable for its off-kilter motifs and a stubborn, industrial feel. Unforgiving and full of atmosphere, it's the sign of a producer who clearly knows his way around he mixing deck. "Polyphonic Six" displays the producer's more introspective sound thanks to a melancholic perspective that's hard not to embrace. All things told, this is a wonderfully diverse package from Tamura & co. Here's to the next 5!

Lorenzo Dada is steadily building his reputation as a producer who is influenced by his classical background. 
From the start, Lorenzo has been a classical composer and pianist with a degree from the prestigious Conservatory of Saint Cecilia in Rome. From this he has blended Classical and Electronic music for labels such as Culprit LA, Contexterrior / Tuning Spork, Get Physical Music and more...

He has held residency with Goa Ultrabeat at Goa Club in Rome since 2014.
For the past 10 years Lorenzo Dada has been playing concerts and shows in Rome, Italy alongside influences (Dj Koze, Zip, Dj Qu and many others), gaining musical experience and outlook. He has also played in events held around the world including BPM in Mexico, WMC in Miami and Off Sonar in Barcelona.

He has showcased his Live as a guest artist at events held at GOA Club in Rome, as well as opening for Marco Carola’s DJ Set at Music On in Rome, and before Sven Vath at GOA Ultrabeat and Studios for Cocoon Rome.

#172 features some deep percussive gems as well as some fantastic vocal cuts. After releases on Get Physical and Compute, this dynamic duo is on fire with this podcast, delivering a diverse selection of quality underground sounds.

"The story of Bongo & Pusk is first and foremost a story of friendship. Our thing just happened to be electronic music and various projects relating to that. It has been a journey for over 20 years, from buying the first turntables and trying to make computermusic after school, to becoming a driving force in the underground part of the electronic music scene in Copenhagen. 
Still sharing studio and music archives, though playing digitally, the journey through different influences and eras makes it hard for us to confine us to a certain genre. We play a mix of house, techno and minimal trance without really playing any of the three, we play in a lot of different moods according to time and place, and we move around the different nooks and crannies of our sound to keep it interesting. Since 2009 we have been playing regular gigs and doing raves. The recent years have been including regular gigs and releases in Berlin clubs and labels as well as being generally very active. That has put us in the place that we feel we are finally maturing as artists and really have grown together and synced up in our dj performances."

Basti Grub returns to Davide Squillace’s label This And That Lab for his fourth EP on the imprint. Having already proven himself to be one of This And That Lab’s most popular artists Basti Grub has also featured on other labels including Moon Harbour, Bar 25 Music, Stil Vor Talent and Moan. Along with being a successful solo producer he has also collaborated with many other artists including his recent outing on Mobilee Records where he teamed up with Timo Maas and Eric Volta.

One of Germany’s most consistent artists, Basti Grub’s unique blend of quirky percussion and catchy synth lines give his jazz influenced tech house tracks an unmistakable sound. Complementing the three original tracks is a remix from Spanish artist Cuartero, who along with DJing all over Europe, boasts an impressive back catalogue including music signed to the likes of Hot Creations, Saved Records, Desolat, Knee Deep In Sound and VIVa MUSiC.

Opening the EP is the tribal groove of “Adansonia” which compliments the dark atmospherics and the haunting Spanish vocal. A medley of textures and fast flowing rhythms, this track is very much in line with the trademark style of clubs like DC10 in Ibiza.

The second cut “Day Dreamer” is on a similar vibe to the first but uses a muffled vocal sample as its main hook that gets layered with a vibrant mix of percussive textures and delicate synth parts. Dark and twisted, the shuffling rhythms enhance the captivating atmosphere brought to life by the creepy vocal.

Third on the EP is the solo remix from Cuartero, who for his version, has decided to focus on the originals percussive textures, stripping back the other parts except for the delicate melody synths. He also adds his own dramatic vocal stab, which works to give extra impact to this rhythmical rework.

Dropping the tempo to wrap things up, “Checking You Up” has hip hop style samples fused with chanting textures of a looped vocal that adds to the flow before opening out into soothing female tones. ‘80s influenced, this charismatic slice of tribal house has a timeless sound full of personality.

Veteran Chicago House pioneer Boo Williams delivers stand out genre melding EP on Italian record label, NICEPEOPLE. The three track EP meanders through elements of house and techno with real depth. This is the “LOL” EP, landing January 2021 on vinyl, and you can happily say this one fully lives up to its expectations. 

The title track “LOL” chugs along with pure energy of sounds of the past, twisting beeps and bleeps whirring throughout. The shuffling drums make this one, brushing by as they continue to drive the opener. The clue is in the title here as Williams uses trippy samples of laughter which flash in and out throughout the duration. 

Next on the agenda is “Backwards Run”, a blissful deep and emotive encounter with Boo doing what he does best. Trickling synths and pads meander around a clean cut house arrangement, voices circle around the belly of the track making this another hypnotic outing. 


Elastic bass creates a sense of urgency in “Bangin Out”, the last of the EP which takes up the whole of the B-side. A real abrupt and direct track, the kind that leaves the crowd in a trance when utilised in the right moment, creating suspense in the club room before elevating to the next track. A tinge of acid and intelligent key arrangement enforcing more masterpiece material. 

This is Boo Williams at his finest once more, landing on a label that is not afraid to push a variety of sounds as long as the consistent quality is there. A real nod to sounds of the past, no egos in sight, just plain and simple effective dance floor sounds from one of the heroes of this vibe.
