We have a pleasure this weekend to present Somebody3lse set, who is a vinyl collector and DJ with a selection and experience spanning 30 years and many genres. They grew up in London where local sound-systems in streets and parks on their Islington doorstep and at Notting Hill Carnival were heavily influential in shaping their taste.
Their DJing career took off via Rave FM; a London pirate radio station, and continued in clubs and raves in London, the South-East and Utrecht.
Now a Montreal resident, somebody3lse is part of the One Minute De Plus and Lo Signal collectives playing bars, clubs and raves along with a bimonthly radio residency. Listen and enjoy!!! 🔊

The Italian techno aficionado explores innovative and industrial territory with this three tracker, experimenting with his machines to create various strains of sound for the peak hours of the night, full of character and energy. This is the "Y" EP. EP opener "Y1" has a hazy mood from the get go, an enormous kick drives, vocal samples flash in and out, opening up the six minute trip into trippy territory. Ancient Future Now co-runner Johannes Klingebiel joins forces with singer and multi-instrumentalist Johanna Klein (known for her alternative pop project Liv Alma) to fuse into JKJK. While the naming process of the project might look a little trivial (because it is), the music of the pair is anything but. Their debut EP „Constellations“ is a splash of a broad color palette thrown onto the monochrome landscape that is our contemporary club music scene, elegantly hazing genre boundaries and creating their own world of pop-infused club music (or club-infused pop music?) in the process.


The BPM counter jumps erratically as we switch between the title track, which sounds like Donna Summer gone gritty downtempo house (yes, it works!), and follow-up „Rupture Of Two Souls“ with its delicate webs of synth structures building to an enormous emotional payoff in the third act. „Silky Days“ and „Water Strider“ might be those addictive tunes that never leave your daily listening playlists after hearing them the first time, with their effortless-seeming infusion of acoustic elements like guitar and drums evoking shades of the solo works of Thom Yorke or 90s Trip Hop á la Portishead or Massive Attack updated to 2020s aesthetics. „Sense“ and „Pipe Dreams“ are the most forward club-ready tunes of the pack, the former with its glitched-up vocals and saturated head-spinning straight-yet-odd beat patterns, and the latter with its beautiful ornamentalistic vocal and synth lines growing into increasingly complex and endearing structures over its seven minute runtime.

Pangea's last release of the year comes courtesy of the UK's Hall North.  His distinctive musical style has gained the attention of some of the best the scene has to offer, such as Lee Softley (Blue Amazon) and Krafted's Paul Sawyer. Hall North's musical style can be described as versatile and rhythmic. He also doesn't like to stay pigeonholed in one style or genre. ‘Guarana' is an example of just that, showcasing Hall North's more melodic techno and proggish side. A track pulsating with rhythm and energy, ‘Guarana' is the right play for any DJ with a peak late-night crowd.

On remix duty is label boss DJ Samer and Seth Vogt. DJ Samer, fresh off a release for Australia's Vapour Recordings, turns in a chunky and vibrant rendition of the Original he called his ‘Ode to Simon's Cub' Remix, held together by a memorable bass line and one-of-a-kind breakdown designed to shake the walls off any venue (including Simon's)!
