The 'Halmstad' EP is the first release of Jonas Woehl at the Berlin label WHATIPLAY. One could describe both techhouse tracks 'Halmstad' and 'Linkoeping' as minimalistically reduced, rough and edged. The EP is brought down to a round figure by the wonderful remixes of FUTURE PROOF (“Halmstad”) and Stefan Biniak (“Linkoeping”). If the two Swedish cities contain filthy techno clubs is questionable, but the tracks are definitely made for those!

The third Realm Of Consciousness compilation on Tale Of Us’ Afterlife Recordings is the label’s most complete statement so far.

The four-vinyl opus opens with Tale Of Us’ now anthemic ‘Nova’, a high-impact and well-loved staple of their sets this year. Agents Of Time continue with the percussive rattle of ‘Paradigm’, before the first released collaboration between luminaries Recondite and Henrik Schwarz shines with understated melody.

Amongst Mind Against’s eerie masterpiece ‘Portal’ and impressive first appearances on Afterlife from Scuba (as SCB) and Steve Rachmad (as Sterac) are ethereal contributions from Fideles, Ovend and Øostil. UK techno veteran Edit Select channels the darker, hypnotic spirit of Afterlife with ‘Phase In’, setting up the sprawling, 14-minute epic from Luigi Tozzi and Antonio Ruscito.

To begin the compilation’s fourth disc, Konstantin Sibold & Kosme’s ‘Cyclone’ lifts the tone, leading into a more introspective sound from Hunter/Game on ‘Changing Weather’. Upcoming German talent Kevin De Vries follows with his infectious cut ‘Mágoa’ and Tone Depth ends the odyssey in mesmerising style with ‘Ibn Sina’.

Witchtape #32 | Guest Witch : Samsara

(Story continued from Witchtape #30)
The little witch was just too excited to participate in the very first witch coven of her young life, in the presence of two elder witches.  It was even the first time she met with other witches but within minutes she already felt a strong bond uniting the three women.  
At one point, the eldest witch led the other two into her forest, where they collected herbs, berries, flowers, mushrooms and even minerals.  Back at the center glade, the two experienced witches started brewing some kind of soup in a small cauldron, using all the ingredients they had picked in the forest.  A few hours later, the brew was ready and it turned out to be some kind of ink, and the two senior witches looked at the young novice with a conspiring smile on their faces.  They started singing a mystic song with a soft voice, while gently helping the young witch out of her clothes.  The girl was so much at ease in the presence of her 2 sisters witch that she didn’t feel shy at all.  The eldest witch took a crow’s feather, dipped it into the freshly made ink and drew a mysterious symbol on the girl’s left hand, then another one on her forearm, continuing on her shoulder before repeating the same ritual on her right arm.  Meanwhile the other witch drew a series of symbols on the feet and legs of the little witch.  The girl sensed that these symbols were very powerful and she had a tingling feeling at the spots which had been painted, while the other women continued drawing lines and elaborate shapes all over her body, before the eldest witch added a finishing touch by drawing a delicate symbol on the girl’s forehead.  After completing this ritual, the young witch looked at all these symbols all over her body.  She had never seen anything like this and didn’t have the slightest clue about the deeper meaning of all these mystic signs.
After finishing with the young novice, it was time to paint flash tattoos on the middle-aged witch.  The old woman gave a feather to the girl.  She didn’t explain anything but encouraged the little witch to draw just something.  The girl hesitated as she didn’t have the slightest clue what to draw, but after a while she found the courage to touch the skin with the tip of the feather, and she quickly noticed that the feather seemed to know which shape to draw and her hands just followed the movements of the magic pen, while it drew symbol after symbol on the witch’s skin.
Finally it was the eldest witch’s turn to get a paint job, and the young witch was amazed how easy it was to draw all these symbols as she just needed to tune in to the energy of the feather.  At one point she loosened her grip on the pen but then it immediately stopped moving.  That moment she understood that this magic pen only works when it is being held firmly by a real witch.
After completing the third witch, they all looked at each other and observed all these mystic symbols.  The little witch noticed that all 3 women were covered in exactly the same way and she felt more than ever connected and with her 2 new soulmates.  She felt incredibly energized and she even had the impression that all these symbols on her skin were glowing softly, especially the one on her forehead.  At that moment, she couldn’t realize that this was only the start and she would soon get a taste of the real power of these symbols…

Biography:
Rishi aka Midnight Traffic started his tryst with music like any other person – as a listener. As his fondness for the music grew, so did his inclination towards electronic music and quite effortlessly he started trifling with the desire to be a DJ. Starting with a very limited  resource back in 2004, electronic music influenced his outlook towards music, thanks to his unending curiosity about genres, techniques and creating a pulsating vibe on the dance floor. Taking his inquisitiveness to the next level, Rishi embarked on a groovy journey as a DJ without any inhibitions as to where it will lead. However, his growth and evolution had an answer. 
He is described as an artist who has constantly experimented with arrays of sounds. He has been silently cooking some mind benders in the studio, always looks for newer sounds and pushes the limit. He often unlocks the sounds he had been weaving together in the studio. Rishi has played alongside some of the biggest names in the country and also of international eminence.

Our next guest is a dear friend, and a rising talent in Montreal. An up and coming DJ and shaman :) , Davian is a ball of energy who attracts nothing but love and positive vibes.

We met him through the scene, as an organizer and party-lover ; and now he is teaching us how to throw it down!

During his global adventures, he was blessed to play at some truly cool events. During his time in Turkey, he made some incredible memories, and used music, once again, as a tool to unite people. 

His mix for us today is all about energy, drive, and groove :

This set was recorded last June in the amazing Kabak Valley, during the « infinite dance celebration » at Project Heart in Turkey. It’s a very special gathering between very special people, the kind that truly gives you faith in humanity. 

During the set you will hear voice samples (most of which were recorded the same day), from various people present at the event, both in English and Turkish. I am extremely grateful for the opportunity, and having shared the decks with the legendary DJ T., Elif, Hande Türkmen and many other talented artists. 

The last track, Yıldızların Altında, is a classic Turkish song that means “let’s make love under the stars”, made anew with the mesmerizing voice of my friend Tuğçe Kurtiş.

We had some struggles with the sound and neighbour complaints which lead to the police visiting during my set, but people never stopped dancing and it ended with a beautiful and unforgettable sunrise. This is a reminder that whatever life throws at you, you’ll always be OK if you surround yourself with the right people <3
