Having someone debut via our podcast is an huge pleasure, but even more so when that person is a long time friend of ours; someone that shares an equal amount of love for the music and dance culture but was only recently encouraged to give this mixtape making business a go, because why the hell not. 

Ana is an overachiever in everything she does, a strong and independent cutie of great taste in the arts and we are so glad that she's the first female to grace our podcast roster. Ye ye, we know that's been long overdue, but there you have it.

After a summer-long hiatus we are back and while our tans are slowly fading out and we’re settling into another awkward autumn sponsored by SARS-CoV-2, we’re giving our Deeport’s mix series a new push-start!

And helping us with the push, we have Pančevo's own, Aleksandra Hrib. Aleksandra’s selections immediately caught our ear when we heard her a while ago helming her own radio show “Mercurial Notes” on radio D59b, whose following and recognition grew as quickly as she jumped into the whole DJ-ing business, from a lifelong passion of enjoying and collecting music for her own pleasure. This half Slovak cat-loving introvert of fluid and charming taste, needed a bit of a nudge from her friends to take her passion public, and we’re very glad they did.

Being open minded in it's truest sense means breaking up misconceptions of things being mutually exclusive on a daily basis. 

John Zahl a.k.a. JAZ has been one of our favorite DJs and edit makers for a while now and we thoroughly enjoyed his impeccable taste that traverses through sleazy disco, breezy balearics and sometimes downright weird electronic stompers. 

He's mission is spreading the messages of love, unity and complexity of human predicament through his music, and also as a priest through teachings of the Scripture; as perhaps one of the coolest cats the Episcopal Church ever had in their ranks. We might be a little biased there, but we really feel all the vibes John conveys to us through our common medium that is music; proving once more that it can be the perfect and universal communication tool, no prerequisites required. 

Wherever your beliefs lie, you know love is the message.

Deeport MIX038 - Guest Mix By JAZ

This smooth, melty, salty and sun-kissed balearic goodness of a mix couldn't have come at a better time. Nostalgia for those warm and careless summer nights sets in perfectly in cold holiday season with these selections brought to you by our dear friend Soul Case; the man behind Amok Radio and lovely Oubli collective. Putting his quirky alias in context, Bojan Janev of Skopje, encases his wonderful soul; one that chose music as its creative outlet of expression and influence. As eclectic as they come, as a DJ he always digs deep to find the most suitable records for the occasion. You can find him blasting high energy italo, chuggy disco or even trancey vibes on the floor, as well as somewhere poolside - serving sophisticated downtempo dishes. 

Him and his buddies from abovementioned organisations are doing a great job rejuvenating and enriching the rather dull and stagnant underground scene that Skopje and many other ex-Yu cities are doomed with. When visions of people align, they click easily, regardless of age, geography or any other determining factor; and this happened with us and Bojan and his crew when we invited them to Montenegro this summer. In his own words, this mixtape is directly influenced by his stay at our sandy shores. It sure takes us back!

Deeport MIX039 - Guest Mix By Soul Case (Amok, Oubli / Skopje)

Here's another one from a dear friend. Integral part of brotherly collective Beyond House of Belgrade - Ognjen Milosavljević who, in the world of music goes by Ognjem, is a true lover of music, collector and as a DJ - as eclectic as they come. He loves rocking the sweaty dancefloors hard as much as he likes melting off the audiences at sophisticated pool parties. He also hosts a new party series aptly named "Love In Motion".

For this mixtape, he dwells into some of his favourite balearic infused but cosmically charged favourites, to round up an hour and half of excellent selection suitable for your daily consumption, whatever the occasion.

Deeport MIX040 - Guest Mix By Ognjem (Beyond House / Belgrade)

Missing a disk in his spine when he was born sent him naturally on a quest ! Since then he's been digging hard to find records for the love of music. Organizing his first underground rave party in 1992, he's been promoting and playing at parties all around the globe, playing at some very exclusive spots in Paris and London like the Murano and Kube hotels, la Terrassa, Follow The White Rabbit in Paris and Hakkasan, Sketch, Trapeze in London. He's been lucky to rock Cannes movie festival, Calvi on the Rocks and Horizon festival in Bulgaria. He’s now back in France around Bordeaux, playing for the Iboat and you can find him every week at Sous la Robe in Saint Émilion or on the beach during the summer at La Cabane de Lespecier, . His music is groovy, funky, colourful and uplifting.

End-of-summer nostalgia slowly sets in, but after a brief hiatus, we're back! Not with a bang, but with a gentle caress.  A mixtape so smooth you'll have trouble keeping your clothes on for the duration. 

Our buddy, Skopje's Andrej Micajkov is one busy fella; whether it's organising and throwing the dopest parties for over a decade, heading his own BRAN record label, hosting numerous radio shows and project or just playing some damn fine music wherever he goes; he's pushing forward the dance music culture in the truest sense; Macedonia and Beyond.

For this occasion, he mellows out the series and drips it slowly with seductive soul woven melters, so get comfortable and enjoy the ride.

But calling Peđa Radović a youtuber is a big understatement; he is a passionate connoisseur of all good things from Yugo era, a nostalgic, true music lover an all around great fella and a dear friend of ours. We're very glad to see he's gaining recognition now, playing clubs and being featured in documentaries and radio shows, so it's our true pleasure to have him here for our podcast series.

Sometimes, in order to be properly moved by someone's music selections you needn't look further than in your own back yard. In this coastal back yard of ours that's just a bit further down south by the Mediterranean sea, a once beautiful old town that is now known for its fake Eiffel tower, a flashy and decadent nightlife of questionable taste and morals; dwells a fella of exceptional taste and decadent morals. Jokes aside, Stefan is a good friend of ours and a long time dance companion of Deeport, an atypical Budva born and raised accountant with a love of 90s aesthetics, muscular bodies, foreign films, Versace shirts and groovy rare music from all over the globe. The tracks he picked out for this mix are whack. Hope to hear more from him.

Deeport MIX026 - Guest Mix By Stefan Anđušić

Slobodan Brkić is a rare breed of gentleman. This gallant man with extraordinary knowledge of wine and fine dining is also a true rock star  kind of DJ and clubgoer. Not many people we can think of that have a more comprehensive knowledge and experience with the Serbian and Yugoslav music scene and club culture. He is a DJ's DJ, a resident of Belgrade's foremost underground club - 20/44, a founder of Disco Not Disco party series and community, and a mentor to many up and coming people on the scene.

However, Brka's sensibility sinks in much deeper than just the dance scene. Alongside another local pioneer, Gordan Paunović, he has a radio show on radio Aparat called "Arcadia", where every Thursday they dwell into exploration of ambient soundscapes of modern and classical music, ranging widely from alternative rock to background music.

The mix he made for our podcast is of this latter variety - deep, sensible and poignant ambient massage for the senses, and we love it.

So, turns out that particular nuisance which I just won't mention by name gives absolutely zero fucks about the heat and the radiation of the summer. 

This doesn't mean you shouldn't give at last some gentle fucks and indulge yourselves in this aural offering whilst basking in the sun. Naked of course.

Deeport MIX028 - Filio - FreiKörperKultur

The heat is still on, and to incite the flames a bit more, Dulash Der DJ steps in and serves up a steamy erotisch treat. Hailing from brotherly land of Slovenia, Štefan Cerjak is another Yugo friend with boundless love for music culture and as that usually goes, we first started our friendship on a dancefloor in Tisno.

Twiddling around on vintage analogue contraptions in the studio and shredding the Slovenian Alps are among his main things and when being der DJ, he feels right at home navigating anywhere between hard hitting electro, italo, funk and ... well you get it. Just about anything goes, and that's how we love it. 

For this one however, the intentions are clear. Well, somewhat dirty perhaps.

Hailing from Leeds in the UK, Nick J. Smith has spent the last 20 years immersed in the city’s underground scene. DJing and hosting parties across the city, playing nights, festivals up and down the country. Consequently playing to dance floors in Europe, such as Renate in Berlin, Powerhouse in Moscow, Stalingrad in Paris, and Electric Elephant in Croatia. Nick has always consciously embraced the musical cooking pot and its many influences, never pigeonholing himself to one style of music. Maintaining this as an ethos for when playing to a dance floor, Nick never sticks to one musical genre for too long, preferring to mix things up whenever possible. This thirst for consuming many musical influences, can be also seen in Nick’s productions and label releases via, Is It Balearic?, Red Laser Records, Spirit Soul Music, Mora Music, Nu Northern Soul, and most recently on Clandestino’s Label with his ‘You Make Me Feel’ EP. In which he explores his love for Italian Dream House of the late eighties and early nineties. 

As part of Clandestino, Nick has also seen worthy attention through the Clan’s music productions, record label, podcast, and radio show hosted on KMAH Leeds. Holding regular parties in Leeds, including their ALFOS night, which has now become an essential part of the Leeds clubbing calendar. Nick also has an ongoing monthly DJ mix series named ‘Chance to Dance’ which is gathering pace and attention. Delving into the depths of his musical love affair. Showcasing his passion and talent for creating a musical journey.

Never have, in recent history, people wished for a new year that would be so much more gentle than the previous one. 2020 certainly was crazy; and while most people dread it and some even cherish its unique opportunities it brought out, what was missed the most was definitely that close and intimate contact, the touch, that warm unity among loving people that brings us together. So for 2021, we wish to witness it all coming back together, with more gratitude than ever. Dancefloors reopening, the magic of music shared through unified movement of dance... Just as it should be.

It is with great pleasure that we kick off this year with a guest mix from one of our favourite diggers out there; the dynamic duo that is Eternal Love of Milan, Italy. Their genre bending musical selections are always on point, embodying the message of their name through sounds that both sooth the soul and stir up the body. Listening to this mix makes our clubbing nostalgia get even bigger. Hope we will meet there again soon.

Deeport MIX033 - Guest Mix By Eternal Love

Apparently, our favourite place to meet new and interesting people are sweaty and pumpin' loud dancefloors. On one such locality we met Ivan, a cool guy from Yugoslavia living in a land down under. Based in Melbourne and performing under various aliases and with several bands and projects, he is a true multidisciplinary artists whose outlet knows no bounds. Interplaying with light, sound and moving images, he explores and conveys a wide range of emotions for stage performance, music videos and studio work. A big admirer of indigenous cultures of both Australia and Balkan area, as a music artist he often dwells into experimentation with traditional and archaic instruments adding to them new life with a contemporary twist. Even our very own Gusle find their place in his work and this simplistic one string instrument gets a fresh and interesting context.

In 2019 under the name "Ex Ponto", which is an homage to Ivo Andric, a literary Nobelist from Yugoslavia, he released an album "Neka neka" via General Purpose label. We urge you to have a listen at this unique experimental ambient gem.

Here, he puts out his record collection in Red Room in Melbourne and compiles a selection of mostly Australian stuff that shows off his diverse taste and influences.
