Tunes Delivery is a sub-label of Scruscru's Scruniversa and now it enters into the world with a fantastic first offering in the form of this six-track various artists EP. 'Hotmood' opens up with the feel-good disco-funk of 'Just Tonight,' Scruscru keeps it real with 'Funky Flute' which is a nice languid instrumental and Frank Virgilio up the ante with some big horn-laced grooves. The flip side then comes on strong with three more brilliantly musical grooves that brim with catchy riffs and fresh disco-infused rhythms. A great start to what is sure to be a great label.

Thierry Tomas wears his influences on his sleeve on this new one for Deeppa Records with elements of jazz, deep house and electronica all making themselves known. The title cut 'Why Why' is a lovely loose limbed jumble of live-sounding percussion and stylish vocal soul, and the revered Fred Everything reworks it into a lush, pad-laced daydream. 'Life's Great' is a playful, shuffling groove with lovely swing, and 'Blue Birds Fly' then hist harder with hypnotic piano. Last of all, 'Dad's Vinyl' is a nice smoky and jazzy grove marbled with great samples and a carefree vibe.

I Loves You Porgy (Mees Dierdorp Remix)

Taken from my second album Heirlooms, a loving tribute to my late father Joseph Anthony Barrite whose musical teachings and own roots jamming with legends such as Pharoah Sanders and Joe Henderson were essential to my world, this one is a culminations of the countless family bbqs I attended in my youth and the warm familial feeling of them. There is also an underlying narrative of a typical "cousin" unsuccessfully trying to court a girl at said bbqs which can be followed in headphones, and culminates in the pleading, infatuated chorus.
