Seven days a week, locals rubbed elbows with visitors in discos like The Point After, Cock’s Roost, Garden Bar, Infinity, Duke Kahanamoku’s, Foxy Lady Too, Valentino’s, Hawaiian Hut—the list goes on.

Telling personal stories through poetic lyrics, intricate instrumentation, and dreamlike vocal harmonies, the record captures the essence of coastal California. The songs carry their own independent energy yet function seamlessly within the album as a whole. It flows like the sea-- shifting, rising, and dropping-- leaving you in an altered state, elated, inspired, emotional. Getaway Dogs' personal influences of people, place, culture, and nature, as well as their own evolution as artists, is evident in this memento.

Galaxy Surfing

The song was written late at night, in a state of utter confusion - our minds were cluttered with frustration, an internal bully and an internal underdog, how can we express this feeling of internal conflict but to have these two characters, these two iconic figures come to life through a narrative. We had them play out in our songwriting, the sound design, and the creation of this piece.

It's a song about a very inspiring human being. Someone I looked up to who is sadly no longer with us. It's a celebration of a great life and an ode to a hero.

‘Air’ was written after the Darling Street, Rozelle fire in 2014. Living around the corner and heavily involved in the Rozelle community, Smithy created the single in response to the tragedy, channeling the emotions and perspective of those who had lost family and friends.
