This is a tribute to Muhammad Ali, The Athlete Formerly Known As Cassius Clay, not only one of the greatest sportsmen in history, but also one of the first celebrities in the US who dared to speak up against racism - the boxing champion who risked his career by refusing to go to war in Vietnam because nobody over there ever called him the N-word - the rapper avant-la-lettre who still inspires people, long after his death in 2016. Ali won most of his his fights not by demolishing his opponents but just by wearing them out, round after round. He even won his latest fight - at least spiritually - against Parkinsons-disease. 

I made this mix for my workout at home, during the lockdown, when all the gyms in the Netherlands were closed. Samples, among others, from the Ali-Frazier fight in 1971 and the Ali-Foreman fight in 1974. Enjoy,

Dancers, night-clubs, artists, creators, experiences, visionaries… Every moment and every person along the path of Fabio’s journey from childhood, to nightlife promoter, to present day music producer, creator, disc jockey, nemophilist, brand ambassador, label owner, lover and giver – Has left a deeply rooted and centred impression within the soul and spirit of the Fabio Florido we encounter today.

From the structured confines of a conservative training, to what he actually considers ''going to music school" amongst the sweaty early ravers of Italy's underground scene; to training a watchful eye on electronic music legends from the front row of late night London club sets, to Ibiza’s residencies, to the intensity of Berlin’s techno scene, to performing at many of the world’s best clubs and festivals. All included within the lifelong process of his spiritual path and a more recent embark on the discovery of healing frequencies.

Labels like MINUS, SCI+TEC, SECOND STATE, MOOD, PLUS8 were early to spot Fabio's signature appeal and harness it for solo and split releases. Followed by the opening of his own imprint “RUNA”, a label carved by profound frequencies and transmuted into a broad vision of techno & ambient music. Pursued with the creation of his ambient/shamanic alias: DISENTHRALL.

In his own words, each of Fabio's interactions has culminated in him arriving at this exact point: balancing his compulsive passion for music creation with his passionate consumption of nightlife alongside the discovery, admiration and contemplation of natural realms, in constant pursuit of forward-looking sounds, tools and technology. Not to mention becoming the brand ambassador for the forward thinking MODEL1 mixer collective.

Where past episodes have screamed, this one whispers. Albeit based in Berlin, Claudio PRC’s sound recalls the heavily meditative braindance so abundantly exported from his Italian homeland this past decade. Call it something in the air, or water, the current is there; his particular brand of italo-techno though, borrows from early influences in Detroit and Musique Concrète to intelligently craft a mesh of textures, vibrations and sparing melody that frequently darts through the abyss and across the fourth wall. Need proof? Bassiani Podcast 114 is it. And for those whose curiosity for his work doesn’t end here, check out his output via 012, his collaborative platform for experimentations in art and sound.

Our 4th "Live Sessions" comes from Russian virtuoso Finetune.

Externalizing phantasies from his imagination through a range of musical instruments, @MichaelDop's Finetune project has grown into a startling creative force. This is music that is born from a variety of emotional states. Communicated masterfully from within an artistic headspace in which improvisation is invariably welcome. As one of the founders of the famed Russian collective @SLOWDANCE, Michael’s story is one of an artist in its truest form. A curious and captivated mind that sees art as a way to travel to another world. As Finetune he draws on a multi-genre palette to explore these worlds. Utilizing everything from experimental electronics and ambient to IDM and house, as he conjures sonic spells that ebb and flow like the rivers themselves, or race and fly like the icy winds.

This exquisite set was recorded 'live' at Mutabor in Moscow for SLOWDANCE'S 12th Birthday back in August last year. We trust you'll find it as captivating as we do.
