Wade Watts presents City Of Winds

City Of Winds is not a physical place or location.  It's a place I invented with my imagination. It's a beautiful abstract place that it isn't bound by time or earthly traditions and fictional currencies.  It is however, a place that collects broken things and unfulfilled dreams, a place where the Occamy rests easy and a place where creatures of the night finds eternal life.

The wind in the Citadel of Winds brings with it the smell of the desert and the lullabies forgotten with time.  The wind also brings with it the songs from the gates of eternity and new hope for future generations to come. 

City Of Winds is a place the Divine Creator forgot to build, to give life the deeper meaning in this little parenthesis of time.

Wade Watts is making his debut for our label with four original tracks under the Layers of Dawn EP and marking the release number 46. Wade Watts is a South African born Deep House producer from Evaton South of Johannesburg and his music influence is inspired by the late 80's and early 90's House Music and he is not afraid to pay homage to Hip Hop/Soul and Kwaito Music that paved a way for him over the past few years. In the past few years, Wade has been release under labels like Dubwise Records, DeepStitched, Superordinate Dub Waves.

Layers of Dawn is an EP that comes with a bit of noir sound, slow, melancholic and dub waves. First track, Ruins, brings the intro sound to the release by an atmospheric feel of nostalgia with the 2 key pad theme, spoken vocals and background effects. The second track, Beyond the Aquila Rift, is a slow, dub deep house track, with a touch of chords and pad line mixed with atmospheric delays. Third track, Fiction 2049, has a more rhythm than second track, but the main deep and dub theme is present. With more dancing hihats, Fiction 2049 feels like a continuation of Beyond the Aquila Rift but the notes and elements are in a different state. Last track, Echoes From the Edge of Eternity, ends the release with pure dub sound, few effects now and there during the track, chords and fx sounds are also involved. The deep subs and spoken vocals remind a bit of some of the Driftwood label sound.

It is amazing to think Mood Series has grown so much in such a little amount of time. This is now #90. 90! Wow! Again, thank you all for your interest in this series as it means a lot to our work and mission. Wade Watts is a South African Producer/Dj from an old Township called Evaton (South Of Johannesburg). This is his first appearance to our Mood Series. 'Shades Of Grey' is the title for this outstanding 4 track digital release. Each featured here is nicely constructed with a veteran's touch. 'Particle Dispersal' is the well-paced opener here that really perks your ears up and gets your attention. The space between all the sounds works brilliantly opening up the audio spectrum for a nice and gentle build to the second offering. 'The Sands Of Nishanti' is another spacious builder that adds a bit more tech and an electro wiggle injected into the addictive rhythm parts. We especially like the more ambient parts as they really add an anticipation and atmosphere to it all. 'Mother Of The Sun' might be our favorite of the pieces. A lovely early set or early morning track that will sure to have you smiling. Peaceful and soothing, the tempo is strictly for lovers. Those keys are to die for! 'Monolith 4000 BC' concludes things on righteous dub note with a wonderfully atmospheric ocean-brisk outro. These tracks sound like you are taking a vacation near a beautiful African peninsula or beach. Scenic, calm, easy going and gentle are words that spring to mind. We can't help but be taken by 'Shades of Grey' and we think you will also!
