We’re very pleased to announce the 90 acts on the longlist for our EMERGING TALENT COMPETITION 2022, which is supported by PRS for Music and the PRS for Music Foundation. These acts were picked by our judging panel, made up of 30 of the UK’s best online music writers.

We’d like to say a huge thanks to the many thousands of acts who entered the free contest, and the judges for helping to narrow them down to just 90 acts.

These acts will now be whittled down to a shortlist of just 8 acts who will compete at April’s live finals for a slot on one of the main stages at this year’s Festival. The winners of the competition will also be awarded a £5,000 PRS for Music Foundation Talent Development prize, to help take their songwriting and performing to the next level. Two runners-up will also each be awarded a £2,500 PRS for Music Foundation Talent Development prize.

This EP looks at our lives from the last five years but from our current perspective. It looks at the concept of change and how life continues to move in spite of everything that may be going on in your life: the friendships, the obstacles you face and next chapters. What's happened has happened, and whether it was how you intended or you're stuck living with regret is not up to you. It's bittersweet, a reminder of
the good times but also a reminder that they're gone and you can't go back. It's like you're looking at these moments "through a window", like a party you weren't invited to.

Dude Low, the modern proletarian, is back for 10 tracks with rich sounds that explore his wandering Ego trip. From his headquarters (Rennes), he calls for a journey after a year of solitary therapy, far from his tribe: humans. Neither too political, nor too fatalistic, Dude Low spits on what annoys him without claiming to know the solution. Through beats that rub up against hip hop, the artist wants to be uncompromising by creating his own artisanal mix ready to swing his left hook in the unbearable gloom of routine, or by enhancing it with a melancholic caress. Who said romance was dead? Not Dude Low. Life is like a Wes Anderson movie, it all depends on how you perceive it. Gathering momentum from a run of shows in France, Dude Low has wrapped up recording sessions in anticipation of his upcoming album Ego Trip on Fogwood Records due to be released April 2022.

“I wasn’t really sure what “Ransom The Captive Heart” was all about while I was writing it.  More than subject matter or meaning, it was language and the sounds of words that guided me through its composition.  I often find that without some concrete piece of reality or experience anchoring me in the songwriting process, my mind unconsciously gravitates back to the Christian mythology I was reared on and which I’ve spent most my adult life alternatively running from and returning to in dizzying pendulum motions.  Listening now, I hear a song of resignation, a recognition that the constant striving to attain redemption, salvation, enlightenment (whatever you call it) is the very thing keeping me from the freedom I long for.” - Kyle Morgan

Oxford-based psychedelic ensemble Mandrake Handshake serve up a heady mix of coruscating stoner-pop on debut single Hypersonic Super-Asterid. 

Thickly layered with sparkling melodies, swirling synths and thundering guitars, the 8-and-a-half-minute epic - prompted by Stereolab’s mesmeric set at Green Man Festival last summer - melds the hypnotic prettiness of their 90s heroes with the hard-edged pulse of modern motorik (Squid, W.H. Lung). What they produce is
a hopeful music for the dawning decade. They call it Flowerkraut.
