Machine Gun Kelly - What's Poppin Freestyle

Byzantine details an individual's struggle with commitment, self-acceptance, and love through his pursuit of a music career.

01 - "BRIGHTER DAYS" introduces the protagonist with a seemingly normal life, divided only by his desire to achieve something more than himself. As he touches on feeling inadequate and neglectful, he blames it on his artistry and career.
02 - "DISCLOSURE" is the reveal of his actual detriments, detailing his dependence on dealing drugs and his addiction to being high. Here, his lack of commitment (to both his loved ones and his dream) are discussed openly.
03 - "MAMA J" is a moment of self-admittance, in which the protagonist admits his afflictions through the lens of his mother: a recovering alcoholic. Themes of family, division, and succeeding your parents are touched on as he converses with her about their shared issues.
04 - "RELAPSE" illustrates the oft inevitability of recovering addicts: relapse. In the chaos he reels from a tense conversation with his father, losing the girl to which he has a lack of commitment, and a paramount moment of introspection. 
05 - "BYZANTINE" follows our broken protagonist to a party, in which he is encouraged by friends to do drugs in an effort to cheer him up. During the rise of the high, he spends his time in self-loathing as they tour the venue. At the peak of the trip, however, he begins to visualize that he is already a success living his current life. In this visualization, his interactions with others change as well as his opinion of himself.
06 - "GEN VACA (Interlude)" serves as the reveal of fame's detriments, mirroring "Disclosure" in structure and blatancy. Here our protagonist is still high, his dream of fame becoming nightmarish as the city around him changes due to the influx of wealth and commercialization. He begins to see the faults in his dreams, and by the end casts them aside.
07 - "CONTENDER" is the final act in the three-act structure detailing his acid trip. Following the realizations in "Gen Vaca", our protagonist begins to see the requirements of fame and success to be more than he is capable of. With the personification of music to a woman whom he has been seeing since his big break, he argues with her about her high standards and impossible feats before admitting to himself that he cannot contend with her.
08 - "KAIROS" begins with an implicative time jump, as the acid trip has since ended and our protagonist has returned to normalcy; except, he has now abandoned music. Following the personification made in "Contender", he pleads the girl to give him another chance as he realizes that he will never be satisfied without her. In the end he accepts that she may never truly accept him, yet regardless he finds the will to continue trying.
09 - "CLOSURE (Interlude)" is a candid replay of several of the themes explored within the protagonist; this includes his addiction to drugs, his lack of commitment to those and that which he loves, his self-hatred, and his abstract love for music (who remains personified to a love interest).
10 - "TAKE ME THERE (EP Mix)" serves as both a narrative synopsis, as well as a conclusion to the otherwise unfinished story. Here, the protagonist meets the personified music and develops a relationship with her, thinking along the way of this inadequacy and disadvantages. However, his confidence rises until he is finally ready to pursue her fully as he feels he is truly worthy. By the conclusion, he has found peace with himself and his dreams and "floats away" to personal success.
