Joseph S Joyce’s 2014 dub techno hit ‘Vedanta’ returns in 2023 with fresh remixes from El Choop, Sebastian Mullaert, Van Bonn, Federsen, Paul 90, and more, on this six-track vinyl and digital package, coming via his own Default Position imprint this June.

The original "Vedanta", which featured remixes from the renowned Sebastian Mullaert, was met with acclaim and support from leading DJs such as Sven Väth and Joris Vorn. It was therefore only natural that a remix EP should follow.

Nearly a decade on and El Choop opens this new release with his ‘Reconstruct’ twist. The Echocord artist lays down a typically raw and subtly nuanced rework before Sebastian Mullaert returns once again with an ‘Ambient Mix’ providing, as the name would suggest, a cinematic journey through washed-out chords and subtle melodies. Freund der Familie and Kontakt artist Van Bonn steps up next, with a slick, reduced, dub techno take before San Francisco’s Federsen shifts focus to tribal-tinged drums and deep hazy atmospherics.

Paul 90, follows with his ‘Basement Mix’ offering up a deep house-leaning aesthetic via bubbly chord sequences, crisp percussion, and dubbed-out vocal hooks. Joyce’s own ‘Live Revisit’ rounds off the release and comes as a free bonus download with each copy of the vinyl.

Default Position is a London/Berlin-based record label founded by Joseph S Joyce which specialises in emotive forms of electronic music. The label gets its name from a term that is widely used in psychology, referring to a person's natural tendency or reaction to something or someone. A person's default position is often based on deeply embedded core beliefs about themselves or the world around them, often originating from childhood. Many of us will have to challenge our default positions in life, especially if we've developed negative ones. In terms of creativity, however, we believe that the default position serves something of great value. We believe it represents an artist's fundamental frequency, a place of creative authenticity, devoid of external influences or material motive. When an artist's output comes from their default position they express their truth. Our aim is to help them deliver their message.
