Mark Broom returns to Rekids with the ‘Showtime’ EP. 

Mark Broom’s return to Radio Slave’s Rekids imprint takes in four tracks that showcase the UK techno legend’s sample-twisting style of house and techno. With a slew of EPs, LPs and remixes for Rekids and sister label RSPSX in recent years, Broom is one of the label’s core roster and most in-demand artists. 

Tough drums meet soulful, recognisable strings in ‘Klashjamz’, a real blast to the past chopped up in creatively funky ways. The title track ‘Showtime’ is next, its groove skipping and stuttering before breaking out into jazzy electro swing done right. 

On the flip, broom brings in ‘HIGHNRG’, a percussive, peak-time treat that expertly does what it says on the tin via a pulsating, rolling bassline accompanied by hypnotic vocals and infectious rhythm. ‘Jazz Ting’ then closes Mark Broom’s ‘Showtime’ EP, a hyped-up number with an earworm, classic & classy melody. 

Techno, house, hardgroove and rave, Mark Broom is one of UK dance music’s legends and has a myriad of production credits to his name dating back to 1989. Warp, M-Plant, Hardgroove, and his own Pure Plastic and Beardman imprints are just a handful of the labels he’s worked with, while studio collaborations with the likes of Baby Ford and James Ruskin have cemented his reputation as a storied and vital part of electronic music culture.

Truesoul’s celebrates its 100th release with a masterful offering from Riva Starr’s new Hyperloop project.

Over the course of its 15-year lifespan, Truesoul has excelled at giving a platform to the groovier end of the techno spectrum, showcasing releases with everyone from Maetrik and Cirez D, to Hot Since 82, Reset Robot and of course label founder and A&R Adam Beyer. 

With his new techno orientated project Hyperloop, Riva Starr becomes the latest esteemed artist to join the label. The lead track ‘Resilience’ is crisp and punchy, and made immediately memorable by the ‘90s influenced house strings that run throughout. When Beyer dropped it during his recent daytime set at Sonus Festival, it was a stirring highlight. ‘Fallen Angel’ is centered around a sublime piano melody and is the kind of composition that was tailored made for a blissful morning set. Offering an effective contrast to the original, man-of-the-moment Tiger Stripes follows up his excellent ‘Body Trip’ EP with a powerful percussive rework of ‘Fallen Angel’, injecting his version with an Arabic-flavoured vocal.

Stepping up to continue Defected’s In The House tradition is DJ Haus, a decidedly untraditional DJ, producer, originator and DIY label innovator. Recognised among the underground house community as being at the cutting edge with his imprints Unknown To The Unknown and Hot Haus Recs, DJ Haus’ kaleidoscopic eclecticism and refreshing lack of ostentation makes him, in Defected’s opinion, an ambassador for the future of house music.

This vinyl double pack keeps things super fresh and direct with a whopping eight compilation exclusives. New material from Deadboy, Jordan (UK), Ejeca and Innershades is included, plus remixes from DJ Octopus and DJ Steaw. Demonstrating a colourful array of raw and jacking sounds that encompasses electro, Chicago house, disco, techno and UK garage, DJ Haus In The House does the UK’s house scene immensely proud. It documents a moment in time when DJ Haus’ quietly pioneering dedication to the underground is celebrated in suitably reverent fashion.
