Duwayne Motley is an American producer based in Charleston, South Carolina. His works have appeared on the world's foremost house & deep house imprints, including Large, Nervous, Salted, iRecords and Moulton Music. His last record for us was a killer rework of the Eddie Grant song "Walking On Sunshine" (w/ Tasty Lopez). Here, he joins Kevin McKay and enlists the vocal talents of Kelli Sae. Most people will know Kelli from her work with Michael Gray (their version of the Jones Girls' "You're Gonna Make Me Love Somebody Else" is a nu-school disco banger!). She is an incredibly versatile vocalist who has recorded everything from Acid Jazz with Incognito to Afro-house with Manoo & Atjazz. "Somebody To Love" delivers a wickedly hypnotic deep house groove topped with Kelli's soulful disco song. If you were looking for a 2020s update to Miguel Campbell's "Something Special", you've just found it.

One of the OG Defected House Masters, Dennis Ferrer’s relationship with the iconic London label is checkpointed by a vast number of innovative originals, guiding house through many eras from soul and gospel to Afro and techno. Now renowned as one of the instantly recognisable anthems of modern house and the Defected catalogue, ‘Hey Hey’ receives two Afro house remixes from Jack Back and Da Capo & Kitty Amor. One of electronic music’s most recognisable artists, David Guetta created the Jack Back alias to return to his house roots, releasing the chart-topping Defected hit ‘(It Happens) Sometimes’ in 2018. His remix of Dennis Ferrer’s classic has been widely teased in his sets, including a DJ Mag livestream which resulted in a tidal wave of fan support; now the French titan presents the hotly anticipated ‘Hey Hey’, complete with pitched percussion steering us towards moments of tension and smooth, deep release. Up next on the package, South African producer Da Capo joins forces with a pioneer of the burgeoning UK Afro house scene, Mahaba Music label boss Kitty Amor. Together the pair create an unmissable take on the classic, presenting a brooding ‘Hey Hey’ that unfurls slowly to reveal growling, electronic rhythms that slice through the sound system with tenacity.

After his 2020 Defected debut in collaboration with Inner City, ‘No More Looking Back’, British icon, DJ and actor Idris Elba’s relationship with the label continues to grow since headlining their highly anticipated The Warehouse Project show and Defected’s Miami Music Week showcase in 2023. This exciting duo have cemented a name for themselves as one of the most exciting new dance acts to emerge from the UK in recent years. They have already worked with the scene’s elite including Solardo, Goodboys and most recently, Becky Hill on her brand new single ‘Never Be Alone’.

They amassed almost 30m streams last year alone across key platforms and graced the decks at the legendary Tomorrowland festival last Summer. Their Toolroom debut dropped in 2023, an epic collab called ‘Over’ with Westend, and this brand new single raises the bar even higher.

It sounds like a real progression in sound. British icon, DJ and actor Idris Elba returns to Defected with the fiery house heater ‘La Trumpeta’. The homegrown DJ turned global A-lister first released with the label in 2020 with ‘No More Looking Back’ in collaboration with Inner City, and in the following years the demand for more Idris culminated in headline slots at Defected’s events at The Warehouse Project and Miami Music Week. This new single comes hot on the heels of his remix of ‘The Cure & The Cause’, adding significant Afro electronic flair to the 2006 Defected anthem. Now he unveils his first solo original track with the London label, ‘La Trumpeta’, showcasing Idris’ signature global sound in full force; a powerful Latin trumpet solo dominates, signalling the arrival of pounding four on the floor breakdowns that have major club appeal. The Simma Black label boss and chart-topping producer Low Steppa is a firm friend of Defected, headlining many of the label’s events globally including Dubai, Malta, Croatia and Manchester’s The Warehouse Project. His previous release with Spanish selector Crusy, ‘This Is The Sound’, made waves on DFTD in 2023, marking the start of a fruitful relationship between the two celebrated producers and DJs. ‘Bullerengue’ takes inspiration from the traditional sounds of Colombia and Panama, complete with native vocal samples over driving club-ready beats as this international collaboration fully represents the power of Defected’s Together series.

Coming as their third original single on Defected Records, the need-to-know, multi-disciplinary collective YOURS (comprised of Maverick Sabre, New Machine, Jake and Sonny Hall) reveal ‘80’s (OUR LOVE)’. Building on the success of breakout record ‘DÓNDE ESTÁ’, which went on to be remixed by bona fide house legends Masters At Work, and the follow up ‘DON’T KNOW WHERE I’M GOING’, ‘80’s (OUR LOVE)’ is another striking example of the group’s genre-defying, refined sound. As Maverick’s unmistakable vocal is heavily manipulated over a classic deep house bassline and synth arpeggios, a nod to the 1980s TV visuals the group watched as they wrote the record, a sparkling, starry-eyed quality adds to the afterhours mood of the record. With remixes due to land in coming weeks, expect ‘80’s (OUR LOVE)’ to be one of those annual records that come to symbolise the start of summertime joy.
