Life is Good to Me

Former Bar25 resident, acclaimed DJ and producer and Sender Records boss Benno Blome is back with a brand new EP that features two of his originals and two fine remixes from Okain Haus and Mihai Popoviciu.
Benno Blome is a boundary pusher who always diversifies with each new release and every DJ set. He has put out great EPs like Braitbendnoodles and the opulent after-hour head-movie "Eramina" and here impresses with a deep and infectious house sound. 
Opener Abotha is a nice and steamy cut with soulful pads layered up over soft rubber beats. Little melodic hooks pull you in and vocal murmuring add a steamy sense of human emotion. 

Romanian Mihai Popoviciu has had great success either solo or with the likes of Jay Bliss and has released on labels including Fear Of Flying, Hudd Traxx, Bang Bang and Diynamic. His remix here is slightly more uptempo and slick, with simmering and shimmying chords rolling over the face of the infectious beats. 

Also remixing is Frenchman Okain, who is a Fabric and Watergate regular and who puts out music on BPitch Control, Cadenza and many others. His version of Abotha is more tech, stripped out and freewheeling, with airy hi hats and thin synth lines meandering about to really hypnotise mind, body and soul. 

Benno’s other original is LED, another syrupy, gloopy, perfectly soft and inviting, warm and romantic house groove with gentle synth stabs, smeared pads and lots of late night soul in its bones. Great vocals again act as a nice human hook and it doesn’t take much to imagine the floor going wild for this one. Once again then Benno Blome proves he is a talented producer with many great ideas and more than the skills to pull them off.

Long-time friend of Defected and certified house legend Sandy Rivera flexes his club banger credentials in this soft but tough new track. Otherwise known as Kings Of Tomorrow, Sandy’s fruitful two-decade-long history with Defected is well known, and long may it continue when the relationship brings forth gems like this. ‘Try A Little Tenderness’ features Sandy’s obligatory commanding vocal hook, accompanied by a snarling, earth-shuddering bass. Unassuming but destined to do some serious damage across the summer and beyond – get this in your playlists immediately.

In just a few years, Josh Butler has firmly established himself as one of house music's most revered talents. 2016 saw the launch of his label Origins, with Josh welcoming the likes of Marshall Jefferson, Todd Terry, Robert Owens and Santé to the imprint since, scoring his second Beatport #1 through his and Bontan’s stand out ‘Call You Back’ in early 2017. Add to the equation EPs on Kaoz Theory, Rejected and Defected, collaborations with Kerri Chandler and Darius Syrossian, and remixes for industry heavyweights Carl Cox and Joris Voorn, and it’s clear to see that Josh Butler is only just getting started. No wonder that Nick Curly and Gorge are very proud about his debut EP on their 8bit Records imprint.

The latest Sol Selectas release is a debut from Mark Alow, a Spanish artist with previous releases on Little Helpers, Baile Musik, Akbal Music, Innocent Music, just to name a few.

Based in Alicante, there is no doubt Mark is leading the way for the city's next generation of artists. As a young producer, he has already built an impressive catalog and is arguably one of Spain's most exciting new talents.

The remix of "White Tusk by Robbie Akbal focuses on the synths and a rigid set of rhythms that are noticeably more up-tempo than the original. Still atmospheric, but tightly sequenced, this version is a perfect alternative for those who lean towards the melodic side of House music.

Robbie has released on major labels such as Crosstown Rebels, Kindisch, Culprit, Get Physical and No.19 Music.

After getting Defected’s attention with his 'Disco Connection' release in 2016, Italian DJ Qubiko blossoms with this production debut for Defected Records. ‘These Days EP’ is a three-track release featuring some quintessential Defected moments. The title track, a collaboration with young fellow Italian K-909, has echoes of Kings Of Tomorrow’s style, with velvety female vocals over a club-focused 4/4. Likewise, ‘Set Me Free’ features gorgeous vocals and tight hi-hat accents giving it that classic house association, while ‘Raw Luv’ goes deeper with a steady disco build and a pacey feel-good vibe. It’s a timeless piece of work from the Defected newcomer.

Qubiko 'Set Me Free'

The fourth instalment on DGTL Records is an EP by Satori, who delivers a record with three tracks that all bear his signature sound. This will be the first EP he releases after Maktub, his well-received album on Crosstown Rebels. Compared to the album, the EP is more dance floor orientated and thus right in time for the summer festival season.

Satori has been part of the DGTL family for a few years already and with this release his connection with the family will become even stronger. Satori is inspired to capture electronic world music, where he combines endless blends of seductive trance and mind-altering earthy tones. This resonates through all his music and even more so through this release.

The next artist stepping up to mix Defected’s coveted In The House series is Melé, a producer whose standout percussive sound and infectious energy behind the decks makes him one of the UK’s most captivating, flourishing DJs. From 13-year-old bedroom DJ growing up in the Wirral to his breakout tribal anthem ‘Ambience’ in 2015, Melé has now fully honed his skills in production and mixing, culminating in two mixes for ‘Defected presents Melé In The House’ and three brand new productions. Two of these original productions are included in this sampler, demonstrating what’s to come from the compilation.

With live percussion from drum warrior Shovell, the cover of ‘Pasilda’ pumps up the track’s unmistakeable rhythms and piano melody (recorded live by prolific record producer Fraser T Smith) with an irresistibly hefty bassline and vocal loops. A long-time highlight of Melé’s sets but until now unreleased, ‘Pasilda’ is an exclusive from the upcoming compilation. The aptly named ‘Brooklyn Bounce’ is Melé’s ode to Danny Tenaglia, a key influence whose sought-after percussive spirit is apparent throughout Melé's work. This sophisticated pumping house cut with plenty of signature layered percussion is the perfect set-up for the anticipated ‘Defected presents Melé In The House’.

Melé & Shovell ‘Pasilda’ (Extended Mix)

David Penn returns to Defected with 'Nobody' and it sure was worth the wait. The Spanish producer is back after eight years and he's remaining true to his classic house roots. Boasting the same infectious groove as its prequel 'Sunshine People', this time the Urbana label-head injects a hell of a lot of soul on top of a thundering bassline. Its fierce soul vocal hook gives this record anthem quality, paired with upbeat classic piano riffs on top of one blinding bassline and we've got a killer club hit. This is no set-filler, this record is here to get the party started.
