Dave Lee teamed up with Omar. A gifted, prolific artist, Omar learned his craft classically, playing the trumpet, piano, bass guitar and percussion. A former principal percussionist of the Kent Youth Orchestra and later a graduate of the Guildhall School Of Music, Omar was awarded an MBE in 2012 for services to music.

Starlight is a gorgeous, mid-tempo dance record, with Omar’s silky vocals backed up with rich production: soaring live strings, groove-laden clav and a warm bassline creating a heady, inviting atmosphere. Almost viscerally life-affirming and unashamedly positive.

This remix was part of the 2004 Japan only Soul Source Remixed Boogies CD (http://www.discogs.com/Various-Soul-Source-Remixed-Boogies/release/854086) It is a shorter and much stripped down version that features a lot of unheard original vocals from Sylvester's backing vocalists Martha Wash & Izora Armstead AKA Two Tons Of Fun. The longer, fuller, Maxi Disco Blend version came out initially as a Japanese Red promo 12", then on a "Faux" Fantasy Promo 12" and was finally made more widely available on my In The House Of Love compilation with Defected in 2006

Opening with The Vision’s blissful original, with its warm percussion and string-drenched interludes, ‘Down’ highlights the soul and funk leaning side of The Vision’s sound. Snatch! label boss Riva Starr delivers his house roller of a mix next, taking a more dancefloor-focussed approach with filtered bass wobbles and irresistible loops, while maintaining the vitality of ‘Down’ that makes it special. Closing out the release is 45 Queen Natasha Diggs, who delivers a hazy, deeply groovy version of the record, richly instrumented with long, expressive keys and rhythmic percussion. This is yet another exquisite package from The Vision camp begging to be heard on the dancefloor.
