Banoffee Pies Records, in its eighth year of operating, hit the 20th release milestone in their Original Series. Joining the roster, Cairo based producer Hassan Abou Alam steps up with a 4 track solo EP entitled “Fasla”. A decisive selection of attitude packed wormhole bass lines and dark basement jams.

The A side was produced in a special collaboration with local artist SHBL-LBSH who’s vocal works feature across “Kesibt” + “Fasla”. The B side delivers sharp cutting synth lines in “Mawkif” and breakneck low end rumbles in “Hanshoof”. After a series of works on the likes of Naive, Not For Profit and Rhythm Section, Hassan fittingly joins the Berlin based, Bristol born label with more boundless sounds that slice through the fabric of styles that BPR have fostered since inception. Mysterious supergroup Protect Ryan (@protectryan) make their HOMAGE debut with the 'Self-proclaimed Critically Acclaimed' EP, featuring four original rave bangers paired with remixes from five of the scene's most trusted underground producers. 

Protect Ryan unites three friends (all veteran producers) that first came together through their shared love of '90s rave culture. Their debut EP arrived on DJ Die's GutterFunk label and introduced the world to their distinct ethos, producing club-ready cuts that inject the dancefloor with big energy. Now they expand on their story with the purest form of their dynamic sound, the 'Self-proclaimed Critically Acclaimed' EP on HOMAGE. 

Leading off with 'Bro Magnum', Protect Ryan launch into an all-out assault of banging breakbeats and growling bass before a squelching acid line takes over. Then comes 'Liam Features', a track also forthcoming on TSHA's fabric presents compilation, which follows with more rouged rhythms paired with playful stabs transporting listeners back to the golden age of rave. Next is 'Senhor Whep' and its nostalgic drum breaks that lay the foundation for an absolutely naughty acid line building into peak time euphoria. Finally, rounding out the Protect Ryan originals is 'Unfinished BTEC' delivering the trio's most refined sound, with tight percussion and chopped vocals stacked on top of a smooth, deep, and emotive bass line. 

While the originals are enough to satisfy anyone's thirst for rave-ready anthems, the release is complete with a staggering collection of remixes. Building on the energy that was already laid out, Apparition (@apparition-noise) speeds up the bpm with their version of 'Bro Magnum' for a hyper bass banger. Then Club Glow's own Denham Audio (@denhamaudio) takes on 'Liam Features' with his signature breakbeat NRG before Boulderhead (@boulderheaduk) flips the same track into a bumping house cut highlighting the original's infectious bassline. Finishing off the release are two remixes of 'Unfinished BTEC', first by HOMAGE label co-founder Ryan Clover (@ryanclover) who's hard-hitting version highlights the deep squelchy bass and chopped percussion while Davis Galvin (@davisgalvin) delivers a sublime and ethereal downtempo chugger.

Austrian producer Awo Ojiji brings his Mantecatura EP to Scuffed, featuring four new intricately-crafted, bass-heavy cuts.

Making his Scuffed debut on the Scuffed Presents Vol.5 compilation back in 2020 with his track ‘Woozy’, Awo Ojiji quickly picked up support from the likes of Ben UFO, Chloé Robinson, and Madam X with his surgical approach to sound design and genre-dodging sound. Following up with his Ridicoloum EP on Eclipse Tribez in 2021, he marked himself as one of the most compelling new producers to emerge in recent years.

Now, the Graz-based artist - who is a long-time resident of the city’s disko404 collective - returns to Scuffed for a full EP, flexing the full range of his production capabilities across four eclectic tracks.

From the mid-tempo opener ‘Recess’, to the footwork-influenced ‘Stress’, bassweight-focussed ‘Balsam’ and percussive dancehall-techno hybrid ‘Inwards’, Awo Ojiji displays a unique slant across the course of the EP with tracks that are at once club and headphone ready.

Awo Ojiji’s Mantecatura EP will be released on Scuffed on 27th May on all digital platforms.

San Francisco based DJ and bass extraordinaire Farsight knows how to make an entrance, first bursting onto the scene with his adventurous and daring EP ‘Wisdom’ back in 2016. At the time Farsight's music sounded like it had been beamed from another planet and has played an important role in the cross-pollination of genres we’ve seen in recent years. Farsight has gone on to release on Scuffed Recordings, Maloca and Noire State, remaining firmly fixed on the future of club music. Now his blend of trap, jersey club, reggaeton and dancehall makes its way across the Atlantic with six mind-sizzling cuts for Breaks ‘N’ Pieces vol. 23.

Opening track ‘Triangulation’ combines rolling drums with party-starting vocal samples and steady whistles, letting listeners know we’re really off! ‘Mr Right’ then enters the fray with throbbing subs, ravey stabs and a vocal that sits halfway between fun and outright menacing. The A side comes to a close with ‘Leaving Las Vegas’ a dubstep infused cut of choppy breaks and wide-eyed melodies. A masterclass in raising tension, this track will shut down any club, please use wisely.

‘Lesser Light’ shows Farsight’s love for bass exploration; it’s looming shadow pressing amongst some of the darkest corners of electronic. A unique brand of grime infused techno. ‘Water Margin’ delves even further, adopting a more measured pace for those heads down moments. The record comes to a close with ‘Fulminous Edge’ and is a reflection of the artist’s darkest material. The drums still have a familiar spring in their step but the track’s melodic bassline is mesmerizing; resulting in a melancholy trance that deserves a second play.

Club Designs head honcho and infectious beat impresario Garneau is joined by Vanouver Slab party series producer Max Ulis for the “Big O EP”. Both extraordinary producers and DJs in their own right, these Canadian underground stalwarts never fail to impress.
