Purveyor of lovecore, fabba and cakebeat, bestie and all-round DJ-inspo Angel D’lite blesses Ritual Poison with her ‘Re4mat’ EP.

‘Werk My Body’ is a swirl of feminine energy, empowered vocals blending with hardcore breaks and hyper bass, a four four switch warping temporally before the track drops again. Local Group return the remix favour from their own recent EP, slowing ’Werk My Body’ to a 140 emo-banger, trance melodies sandwiching a proggy mid-section, the bass bumping throughout.

‘R u Ready’ keeps the NRG and BPMs high, breakbeats rolling over booming sub and dubbed out rave stabs, the sexual charge of the female ragga vocal frank and unashamed. ‘Re4mat’ signs off, the hallowed B2. Drawing on rave anthems of the past, it looks boldly to the future. “This particular historical juncture holds possibilities for change that we’ve never before experienced,” declares Angela Davis, as the euphoria subsides for a moment. ‘Re4mat’ and start again.

We premiere some fresh new music from dance music pioneer Detroits Filthiest, as they return to Casa Voyager with selection of jazzy, drum and bass, electro, bassy, ghetto type cuts. We premiere the first offering from the EP entitled ‘Perception Of Reality’ which draws on 90’s hip-hop nostalgia while intertwining vintage liquid drum and bass influences.

Detroit’s Filthiest went by many names in the past, DJ Nasty, Digitek, 313 Bass Mechanics were some of his aliases in the ’90s. During this time he was part of a movement from Detroit that established ghettotech as a DJ-style as well as an electronic music genre.

In 2015 he re-entered the game as Detroit’s Filthiest and in 2017 he collaborated with Sinistarr on ‘Yo Speakerz. His ‘Honor Among Thieves EP’ in 2018 provided yet another Detroit infused hit with ‘Funky Sperm’ which amassed over 900,000 plays.

Detroit’s Filthiest’s return to Casa Voyager encapsulates a multi-genre approach to an otherwise cohesive EP. ‘Accept No Substitute’ follows his 2021 release for the label, ‘Imitated Never Duplicated’. Once again he fuses both jazzy and bassy D&B, Electro, Breaks and Ghettotech stylings like no other. Probably the ultimate Detroit’s Filthiest record on Casa Voyager.

‘Perceptions Of Reality’ leans on jittering breakbeats, cavernous bass, drifting pads, and synth-lines that reek of 90’s west-coast nostalgia. Perception of Reality is soothing and comforting, and for one reason or another makes me want to buy a corvette, just so I could listen to this track with the roof down. Detroit’s Filthiest at his finest.

Stepping up for MANT004 is the one and only Ian DPM. This EP continues an impressive string of releases for him, including on his own imprints Scuffed Recordings and Definite Party Material, all exploring the edges of club music with tunes belonging slap bang in the middle of the dancefloor.

Proceedings start with an evening service, except the gospel choir have forgotten the keys to the church and instead take themselves and their organ down to the club for some heavenly amen breaks. The rest of the EP remains firmly on the dancefloor, but the club itself is launched into another dimension, powered by overcharged acid and off-kilter percussion riding over weighty, no-nonsense basslines.

Compliments gives Acid Dance quite the beating on the remix by putting it through a paper shredder, grabbing some of the shreds of paper and sticking them back together with a highly flammable glue before lighting the whole thing into a chaotic frenzy.

A shrill repetitive noise roused them in the early hours of the morning - like an air raid siren it cut through everything. Where it came from they didn't know, as far as they were aware there was nobody around for miles and miles - this was the middle of nowhere. Sleep was impossible now, though tiredness gripped every inch of them, they couldn't drift off for fear of the unknown. By the window they sat, squinting in the darkness, listening out for something moving in the bushes, but nothing appeared before day broke - had they dreamed it all?

As one half of the brains behind Scuffed Recordings and the curator of Definite Party Material, Ian DPM knows a thing or two about what constitutes a banging tune. Making his first forays into production himself a few years back with his Visions EP on Scuffed, he's since released a bunch of other EPs that teeter on the fringes of club music, fusing the likes of UKG, breakbeat, dancehall and techno. His next release comes via London-based music platform turned label Mantissa and is charged up with all the sonics you'd expect from him; weighty basslines, frenetic rhythms and crisp breakbeats.
