OS Premiere: Arcane Prospect - Fallido Intento de Escapar [Artificio]

The aptly named ‘Upcycling’ is back with a fresh set of remixes taking contributions from Manami, Suze, Surgeons Girl, Outsider and Yushh. Delay Grounds wanted to take a slightly different approach to the process by giving each producer a single sonic element from each of the original tracks - taken from his field recordings - and allowing each to craft entirely new songs with their respective elements, hence: ‘Upcycling Rebuilt’.

Malcolm up next for the pod! The Parisian artist who now resides in London has served up a high tempo mix, around the 160 realm, switching between half-time and edits he's made specifically for the mix.

AM: Yo! What you been up to recently? 

Hey pals, how's everything? Recently I moved from Paris to London, what a mad city innit? So I've been meeting a bunch of lovely people, been to a few really good concerts and exhibitions, and been eating great food despite what my fellow frenchs might say. 

AM: How and where did you record the mix? Was there a theme or anything behind it? 

I've always been fascinated by contrastful music, hard but sad, dark but exhilarating, club but introspective... I think that define a lot the music I produce or release on my label. So this mix is focusing on fast but slow stuff, this 160 bpm / halfstep rhythmic that I've been playing a lot these last couple of years. It features a bunch of unreleased and original edits I made recently, some just for that mix, as well as some upcoming and unreleased tracks from friends around the world. 

AM: We love your label, GWR. What’s the thoughts behind the curation of it? 

Aw thank you, appreciate that. I leave boundaries pretty open on the curation of the label, but I think somehow it's always about musical crossovers. But even tho some projects are building bridges into indie rock, or modern hip hop or whatever, it's always deeply electronic, music from kids that got brainwashed by too much Gorillaz, Prodigy or Kylie Minogue during their teenage years. Also there's definitely a constant tongue-in-cheek tone, some love for provocation, and sick ass graphic design. 

AM: What’s next for you in 2022?  

I've got a couple of remixes and tunes to come for various artists and labels this winter, and am currently finishing my 3rd EP that might pop up before summer, I'll send you the links. But in 2022 I also want to make a trip to Scotland, dive into Ingmar Bergman's filmography, make a bunch of barbecues with my friends, and maybe get myself a Nintendo Switch.

Paris-based producer @djsuzmo is back with the next instalment of his ‘Extinct’ series. Built from a sample lifted from a documentary about the butterfly species, the lead track is a confounding barrage of sci-fi bass, high-definition drums and twisted vocal samples right from the get-go.

A unwelcome sight greeted him this morning when he woke up. The house seemed quieter than usual, the buzz of the radio wasn't ringing through the house, no smell of coffee filling the air, and the pointed telling offs and rallying of small voices nowhere to be heard. Descending the stairs he noticed things had gone missing; pictures had been pulled off the walls, ornaments taken from the sideboards, but worst of all there was no sign of his family. A sinking feeling hit him like a punch in the gut - deep down he knew they weren't coming back...

On the next release from the Programm camp, and the first from the label this year, producer Rawtrachs draws inspiration from J Dilla samples. Marking his debut single on the London-based imprint, ‘It’s Just a Rinse’ is a pounding lo-fi cut that comes complete with two reworks from Sneaker Social Club affiliate Thugwidow and OfParadise co-founder Fade, who take their remixes in different directions - Thugwidow upping the ante and Fade stripping back the original and adding signature percussive touches.

The artwork for this digital release is the label's first generative cover. Made in a similar way to digital music, alongside artists Matt Heywood and Alfie Allen, Programm have created a new tool to combine human and computer input to create visuals that could only exist together.
