Ukrainian electronic artist Andrey Sirotkin releases the mini-album Vyrij which is dedicated to the problem of deforestation

EP Viriy includes six tracks created by the artist over the last two years. The sound of the mini-album varies from light dance music to more raw and experimental music. Its genres range from techno and electro to ambient. The album contains two tracks recorded with other Ukrainian artists, including the founder of the electronic instrument studio-shop MachineRoom Vadim Griboedov, and the ambient musician Vlad Suppish. Sirotkin recorded the album in his Kyiv studio, using a modular synthesizer. ‘Vyr’ and ‘Khaschi’ were recorded live in one take. The key track ‘Vyrij’ was created in 2019 and has repeatedly appeared in the artist’s DJ sets.

‘Vyrij’ will be released on September 2 via Mystictrax label, owned by Ukrainian electronic musician Volodymyr Baranovsky, known as Lostlojic. The release will be available on digital as well as on cassettes.

Sirotkin has been writing music for the last ten years. He previously worked under the nicknames I Wannabe and Shade Of Drums, but Andrey will now be released under his own name. In the future, he will continue to produce music as Andrey Sirotkin. ‘My music is an integral part of my being. I’m not a fictional character, and I’m not a music project; I’m a real person who lives his music’, explains the artist regarding this change.

New tracks have no direct connection to the Carpathian forests topic, where deforestation is the most acute. Still, all the names of the compositions are Ukrainian and are associated with this region. During the writing of the EP, Andrey visited the Carpathians as a tourist. While working on the concept of the album, he learned about the NGO ForestCom, which deals with illegal deforestation in Ukraine. This organization was created in 2020 by scientists and experts involved in forestry and environmental protection. ForestCom helped the musician learn more about the problem and the ways to solve it, and so the artist has decided to disseminate this information.

‘I have always believed that any human action should be aimed at creation. The ability to speak to the masses is a great responsibility, and I want to make the world a better place through my work. Forests are the most crucial part of the planet’s ecosystem, as they produce oxygen, are the habitat for animals, and they prevent natural disasters, such as droughts, floods, and landslides. At the same time, the forests in Ukraine are the victim of a large-scale shadow business. In our country, the state system of forestry and law and order function unsatisfactorily, which is used by those who fell trees for their personal enrichment’, explains Sirotkin.

Ukraine's forested area is one of the largest in Eastern Europe, with about 9.7 million hectares, comprising nearly 17% of the country. The official state statistics report that less than 1% of all annual felling is illegal; however, research conducted by third parties estimates that anywhere from 5% up to 50% of all logging violates Ukrainian law. Athens based DJ & producer, Jerm, debuts on Soma with a massive new release, Electric City EP. A relative new face to the greater Techno world, Jerm is quickly ascending the ranks with multiple hard hitting original productions and remixes which are garnering attention across the board. Control Theory opens the release with powerhouse beats and eviscerating synths and a colossal amount of attitude. Manni Dee’s remix of Control Theory feeds on that attitude and take it up even more with clear nods to the rapid Birmingham sound. Glass Chinn keeps the intensity flowing with galloping percussion that leads directly into a dark, driving and industrial-esq affair. Here comes the second release of BRVTAL, another split, but this time focusing on the local scene of the label. Because we put together two defining figures of the contemporary techno scene in Budapest, AGA2L and Adam Krasz.

@aga2l is a member and co-founder of BRVTAL and this will be his first release on his own imprint. He started his activity in the scene as a DJ for a while now and he became an unavoidable figure of it in the last few years. Maybe not too many people knew, but he started making music almost the same time as he's playing vinyls, but until the beginning of 2020, he didn't share anything. First track of him came out earlier this year on a charity compilation for Gólya by Dalmata Daniel label. This song is already guessed what will be his way as a producer. Yes, nothing surprising, his own music style is not far from his taste of music as a DJ. Cruel darkness of sound with heavy bass, noisey industrial vibe and banging drums as we may experience it on his side of BRV002.

@adamkrasz is a Hungarian musician, sound and media artist currently doing his PhD in Sound Art at the Moholy-Nagy University of Art in Budapest and also a member of Műhely. As an artist he mostly works with video and sound, exploring and documenting the environment of the modern human. In his dance music works he brings together the harsh, noise-filled sounds of modular synthesisers with the endless, soulless looping of the current digital age. This contradiction manifests in two heavy hitting techno tracks on the second release of BRVTAL.
