I was just practicing tonight and felt like recording one of the pieces.  Beethoven's Sonata No. 14 in C# minor Op. 27 No. 2, or otherwise known as 'Quasi una fantasia' or the 'Moonlight Sonata'.  I recorded this on a Steinway D and mastered it in my mastering studio www.alpinemastering.com

Soundtrack from the movie Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence (戦場のメリークリスマス), a.k.a. Furyo in Europe, directed by Nagisa Oshima, and starring David Bowie, Tom Conti, Ryuichi Sakamoto and Takeshi Kitano.

The instrument is a Kawai VPC1 controlling a Clavia Nord Stage 2, using a sampled Yamaha C7 grand piano, and... straight from the 80's a sampled preset named "Touch Perco" from the Yamaha DX7 mk2 synth.

2009 saw the international release of HIGH WITH A LITTLE HELP FROM, the debut by Carlos Niño & Friends. It was a record that featured, what Niño refers to as, "collage compostions." He used material from recording sessions and live concerts by his other ensembles, including Build An Ark and The Life Force Trio, as sound source for songs. He would then work with various collaborators on developing the pieces . . .

In front of you is the new record by Carlos Niño & Friends, entitled AQUARIUSSSSSSS. This project finds Niño back to work, sampling, looping, editing, and processing recordings he's made of himself playing various instruments, and recordings of ensembles that he leads. The feel is more ambient and new age than the first, and plays like a soundtrack to a film of psychedelic visual music, for exploration, reflection, meditation and relaxation.
